"To the family of Emmanuel,
My name is Master Sergeant Damon Burnett. I was Emmanuel's platoon sergeant during the attack on FOB Shkin. I was seriously wounded in the attack and was flown to Landstuhl Medical Center. I learned of Emmanuel's passing after 10 days in the hospital. He was a superb soldier and always the first one to get his hands dirty when it was time to work. He was the guy who could always make me laugh no matter how tough a day we were having. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. But he is with God and the world is a lesser place without him. My heart goes out to his family and his widow, Jessica. I will never forget him. His nation owes him a debt of eternal gratitude for his sacrifice.
Very Respectfully,
Master Sergeant Damon Burnett

"my brother, my friend, my dearly missed friend. for the short time we spent together in basic training i came to know you as a very good friend. someone who amongst very few i could truly talk to and admire. you have true strength in your heart as a great person and i know that that fact lives on with your wife and family. last time i saw you brother was in afghanistan when we had luckily crossed paths and were able to catch up on events in one another lives over that past year. you had just begun to live life, newly married to your beautiful bride, and now it is hard to believe that god has chosen you to stand by his side so quickly. though i know strongly deep down in my heart and soul that your are in good company my brother. POPS i know is with you standing at your side, as well as Lebrun. your time here with us was brief yet more than rewarding and appreciated. i know that one day we will cross paths again and will once again make up for lost time, and until then i shall remember you in my heart always.

with so much love,
