"Kyle, This Memorial Day, as many days, brings memories of you and our short time together as we mobilized and served in Afghanistan. Starting at Fort Bragg We shared many crazy laughs , hours of trash talking, and bad food all over the world! You are dearly missed but will be forever remembered as a warrior on duty, a gentle soul when not in combat, friendly, happy. I think of your family and I am ashamed, because it is 2009 and this is the first internet search I have done. Yet, I have had some serious healing to do myself, I am sorry. I pray for you and hope you are healing with time, he was a great man and a brave soldier. I only keep in touch with one other veteran from Afghanistan and we both speak of Kyle with high regard, he always made it a better place to be. Your son is a hero, however I am sorry for your loss. He was a great kid though , wasn't he:) P.S. Mom or dad; could you please email me? there is an issue about the black KIA bracelets i would like to inform you about, they are sellng them and they are incorrect. i tried to get company to correct problem, they will not do it for me. thank you. dustin.t.pollard@gmail.com"

"Kyle,
Not a day rarely goes by where I don’t think of you in some way. You are greatly missed. You are my favorite cousin and always will be. Family get things like Christmas aren’t the same when your not there. Hanging out playing football or video games. We always were able to relate and had things in common even though you are like 5 years older than me. What they are saying on about you on the news and in the paper recently is wrong. We all know you didn’t. We will fight and get to the bottom of this. I have all the respect for you and for how you served your country. You’re my hero.
Your Cousin

"To the Hemauer family,
I would like to offer you my sympathy and a few words about Kyle. The last time I talked to him was after a Saturday mass a while back. I asked him how his military service was going and he had high spirits. But the memories of friendship I have of Kyle stem way back since grade school. We had a tight-knit group of guys that played pickup games on the catholic school courts for many years, well after we moved on from sixth grade. Kyle was a caring person, an honorable soldier, and most importantly, a humble man. He fought for what was right and made the ultimate sacrifice. I hope you find comfort in knowing he’s at a better place now... a place where all his questions are answered and all his stresses relieved. The chainlink fence enclosed blacktop courts wait for us once again. I’ll speak for Josh, Doug, and Nic when I say that we also await the time when we can pick up where we left off, Kyle.
Sincerely, Nicholas Schumacher"
