"“Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Almost 2,100 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and want you know that everyone here at Project Compassion does and will always CARE.
Contact us directly at Projectcompassion@manti.com or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Kenna

"I was looking for my best kindergarten friend Helge, when I came to this page. We went to the same kindergarden in Berlin in the early 70th and Helge was my best friend in the age of 4 years. I went through an old photo album and saw a picture of me and him on a karneval party in Berlin (I was a little princess and Helge was a cowboy) and I was wondering "hey what is Helge doing" so I tried to find him via Internet - and I did.... :-(
I'm shocked and sad to find him on this page.I would have loved to meet him again - 35 years later. My thoughts are with his wife and his parents."

""If you are able,
save them a place
inside of you
and save one backward glance
when you are leaving
for the places they can
no longer go.
Be not ashamed to say
you loved them,
though you may
or may not have always.
Take what they have left
and what they have taught you
with their dying
and keep it with your own.
And in that time
when men decide and feel safe
to call the war insane,
take one moment to embrace
those gentle heroes
you left behind.

"He passed by me on his way to the flat area where we test fired our weapons; but he never returned. I barely knew him but when he died that day in the dust of Afghanistan he took part of all of us with him.

I think of you every day Helge.

"The date draws near and I dread it. I guess I will forever!

I now wear a bracelet with Helge’s name and the day he lost his life on it! I think I had it made and wear it because much like the POW/MIA bracelet that I wore for 10 years, it was for a man that left us for reasons that we can’t explain. Just like the missing in action, Helge left and I don’t know why. He was there tying his boots, and then he was gone! Unlike the man on my MIA/POW bracelet neither Helge nor his remains will ever return. We know where they are and it is no mystery what happened to him. The only mystery for me is why he had to die while so many of us lived; and lived through much more dangerous situations.

So to Helge and all others who gave everything; I say thank you and God bless you; may you rest in peace."

"I went to school with Helge. Even though I didn't know him very closely, I recall that he was a real standout in that his drive and talents were second to none, and I cannot stress how much I admire and respect his devotion to his adopted country. I cannot thank him enough for his service to the US."

"Helge was a good friend of mine. He never, ever, ceased to amaze me with his brilliant mind or his boundless optimism and the smiles he brought to my face whenever we talked - and in death, his unshakable courage and faith in our nation and its potential will never, ever leave my mind and my heart. He was blessed by an amazing family, dedicated friends, and an incredible wife - and I don't think I'll ever truly understand just how much he blessed my life."
Todd Elmer of Washington, D.C.
