"To the family of Matthew, I am so sorry for you loss. I cannot imagine the pain that you have gone through. I never knew him but he sounds like he was more than just a special person he was exceptional. I am sure that he is by your side in spirit wherever you may be. You will always be reminded of him with the little day to day stuff. Maybe someone walks by you with the same kind of cologne that he wore, and you think to yourself , " Man that reminds me of him!" Or you remember some crazy thing that he did when he was young. Those will be the times when you know he is there, watching you. He will be there for you, in the saddest of times, and the most joyous of times. You must be so proud of him and the person he was, but I'm thinking he would be proud of you too. My deepest sympathies for your loss."

"To the Family of Matthew G. Axelson,
While following up on some recent Honors to a local Hero, LT Michael P. Murphy, of Patchogue, NY, I became aware of his teammates, and fellow heros, one of which has the same last name (and not such a common name) as my own. My feelings suddenly became that much more personal. I wish to extend my deepest sympathy, and wish to say I am honored to share the Axelson name. Being a Veteran myself, and recently becoming involved with the Patriot Guard Riders, there seems to never be enough words or deeds to honor such true American Heros as Matthew, but one can only try. Thank you for Matthew's service to our country."
Michael Axelson Jr of West Babylon, NY, USA
"I have just completed the book, "Lone Survivor" and words cannot fully express my deep appreciation and admiration for the sacrifices made by Matthew, Danny, Michael, and the many others who have given their lives in this war on terrorism. I will continue to tell others the story I read of these heroes, but let's remember there are more American military heroes still out there who give so much every day. Please remember to pray for them and for their families. God bless them always..."

"I just became aware of the loss of Matthew Axelson and I am very touched by his story.
To his Mom & Dad; your raised a fine young man. It is obvious he was raised in a home full of love and with a "good moral compass" You must miss him terribly.
To his wife Cindy; Each photo of you and Matt has you looking at him with such loving eyes. You loved him so......which must make losing him all the more difficult to bear. When loss and lonelyness bear down on you remember the good things about your brief time with Matt
I wish I were bright enough to find the words to tell you how much you and Matt's story touched me.
I wish you peace, the courage to deal with the loss of your husband and I hope you can love again in the future
May God grant you serenity until you are in Matt's arms again"

"I'm a young man, and I read the Book, Lone Survivor. This book inspired me to do more than I could ever do. Matt was easily one of the bravest characters in the book, he would never quit. I can only hope that I could be a qaurter of the man that Matt was, but I will try to be that quarter. For his family, I cannot inderstand your pain, but I thank him from my heart because he died trying to kill the people that killed my uncle... Thank you so much for raising such a great man Mr. and Mrs. Axelson"

"to the family of matthew, his courage and heroism will never be forgotten...when i came across an article about operation red wing i researched every detail of it on the internet...and from that day on, not a day passed by that i do not utter a silent prayer for him and the rest of his brothers at arms who perished on that hindu kush mountain. i want you to know that until my dying days i will never forget those men who served and defended the freedoms not only of the united states but also its allied countries. i will be always be grateful to them for their selfless acts so that we may live free. their story serves as an inspiration to many, not only to the americans but also to the people around the globe who value freedom. i am not an american and i am living here in southeast asia. thanks to his parents for raising such a fine man. rest in peace matt."

I just wish that every American could know and understand the heroism and sacrifice that occurs each and every day of this ongoing war. I know not of Matt or the Axelson family, but feel a very strong love for all of you. My young son will learn of this story some day, and I can only hope that he grows up to be half the man of Matt. "I want to say thank you for all you did to uphold what America is all about. I just finished the book "Lone Survivor" and all can I say-Danny, Axe, Mike and the rest that perished on that mountain that day-you guys were what all Americans should dream to be. Going to a place 8000 miles away from home to fight the very people who attacked us is beyond more than most can comprehend. I rest easy knowing my family can sleep at night thanks to hero's like these guys and HOOYAH to them and their family's. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"

"To the Axelson family,
I have been deeply moved after reading Lone Survivor. From Marcus' descriptions of Matthew, he was a man that looked out for all of us in this country. A complete stranger like myself can see the type of guy he was just by looking at pictures of him. Every good person in this world suffered a devastating blow the day all of those patriots gave their lives for us and each other. I will never forget all of those guys, but especially Matthew. I wish I could have met him and bought him a beer to thank him for his service. I know he will forever be a gaurdian angel to us in heaven just as he was here on earth to the United States. I consider him and his team to be some of the finest people that this country has ever produced. God Bless!"

"To the Axelson family,
I never met Matt -- I wish I had however, I'm not sure if you all realize how inspiring he is to so many people, many complete stangers like myself -- I now wear a bracelet with his name as a reminder of his sacrifice, and to remind myself that I've never really had a bad day in my entire life (compared to the Matt and his team-mates) Hope I'll someday be half the man that Matt was."

"I didn't know Matt, Danny, Mikey, or Marcus but my heart feels with such pride and love for those four men. I thank god that there are men in this world who fight with honor, strength and valor. Those who put themselves in the line of fire to protect this great country and our freedoms. I hope that everyone out there says a prayer for those we have lost and those who are still standing tall protecting us. To Matt's family and friends & to all the other who have lost their loved ones, may your hearts start to heal with the knowledge that their deaths were not in vain and that those young brave men have touched millions of hearts and souls."

"9-11-2007
This horrible day will live in America's memory forever. We must also remember the brave men and women, who,on a daily basis fight and die so it will not happen again. Our brave soldiers go far from home and loved ones to fight to keep us free. Tell their stories of courage and sacrifice as was done with my Dad(WWll). He could never tell me, I was 3 when he died. I'm sure Dad,Matt,Danny,Mikey and all the fallen are tellin' war stories now. May all our heros find peace with God. To the Family- your heros are missed and prayed for daily by a grateful nation. May God's Love comfort you."
