Armstead died at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of a non-combat related illness identified on October 5, 2005 as he was returning from leave status and preparing to redeploy to Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 16th Ordnance Battalion, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Died on October 6, 2005.
