"Edgardo, I still remember that sad day like it was yesterday. I am proud to have spent those years with you... In and out of the box. You were always an inspiration. Such a wonderful man, friend, father, and soldier. I still remember you dancing.. dancing all the time. I set up a memorial at Arlington West Cemetery in Santa Monica. I visit you as often as I can, and it always brings tears to my eyes. I love you brother... And I wish you could be here with us. But we will see each other soon enough, comrade. I love you, my brother.. and think about you every day."

"My hero, my shinning star, my brother. Edgardo and I grew up together, from the time he was born until a few days before he left. I am the only girl niece that grew very close to Edgardo, being his fathers nice Victor zayas. Edgardo and I had a beautiful childhood, he was always loving, carring, funny. Words cant express!!! we were more like brother and sister. I still remember like it was yesterday us playing video games like when Mario bros first came out. He did not like it much but just to please me we would play for hours. Jiji Also as when we became adults and had our own families we always stayed in contact. I remember the day he came to my home with his children to say he was going off the army. That day was the last time I saw him alive. It has been very hard coping but I still and always will miss and remember him everyday, but I know he is in a better place but will always be missed. Love you bro !!!!!!! You are our Hero....

"'E'azy we used to call you growing up in Dorchester,Edgar was a great friend with a great family to me personally and went on to extend that family his wife Suhea and his son and daughter.I didn't serve in combat with him but he's always in my conscious because of his enormous spirit! He could always pick me up and had the uncanny ability to laugh at himself when the joke was funny.E, yr the only friend my Dad liked "especially cause u laughed at his corny jokes". I'm positive you were a great soldier and we talked before you left about the move and your fears, but you prevailed. Your spirit lives on as does the spirit of your mom Gloria. They named the corner after you my brother.I so miss and will never forget our battles playing Madden and sports with you, but God called on you for a much more important duty. I'll never forget you Edgar ,yr spirit lives on brother"

It's been three years since Zayas took on the ultimate sacrifice. I think about him and that night every day. I miss him dearly as well of the rest of the original 1/61 and we thank god every day for men like him."
