"I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry. I understand in theory only that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take the families pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. "My name is Sgt Justin Nye, I served with Kevin in 3/2 and in Iraq. We were in the same platoon 3/2 H & S Security Team. There are lots of things I want to say and but most importantly to his family....Kevin was an outstanding Marine and even a better friend. I think of Kevin everyday, I replay the conversation we had just before he left camp, and in the midst of the sadness it helps me get through. I know nothing that I can say can change what happened just know that the Marines that served with Kevin think of him often and that your loss grieves us all. We loved Kevin as our brother. If there is anything you need, even if is is just to talk my email address is jusalkat@yahoo.com, feel free to contact me anytime day or night."

"Godspeed to you, Lance Corporal Smith’s family, and to all those who knew him. Although I have never knowingly had the honor of knowing him, I’m sure that I crossed his path on my several trips to Camp LeJeune. I had just listened to Lt. Col. Mundy’s update message proclaiming his joy that although both base camps had received enemy mortar fire, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines had not suffered any casualties. I was in the process of conducting my routine check of the Department of Defense website when my focus went to what I was dreading most. The header “Marine Casualty” popped right out at me and after a moment, I clicked on the link. “3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines” hit me like a ton of bricks. Although I had just written to my son, Lance Corporal Mario De Lucia, a Rifleman in India Company, 3/2 at Camp Gannon, I immediately wrote him again expressing my sorrow and the sorrow of all of us here for their loss of a Brother Marine. I told my son I loved him and cried for the parents of Lance Corporal Smith. To the Smith family I say “God Bless You!” To Kevin I say “Semper Fi Marine!”
