"I remember thanking Eric in college for his service to this amazing country days before he was shipped out. I shook his hand and said "Thank you." His response was everything I wanted to hear and nothing that I thought a soldier would say; simply put "You're Welcome." I will never forget his valor during this time. Myself and my students think of him every morning during the Pledge of Allegiance and our Moment of Silence. He truly was a great person and a genuine gentleman. May men and women look up to him for his strength and courage forever more. Your family is in my heart."

"I know that nothing I say is going to bring Eric back..but I want you to know that I am praying for your healing and that I am here for you. I know the pain of losing a son is the pain that is most unbearable. But we all know that God is never wrong and he is never too early or too late. I know that Eric is in his Fathers arms and in perfect peace. I only wish I was there with our boys. But I will wait until roll call and when my name comes up I will meet Billy and Eric there ...Blessed Assurance....Praise God for he is good all the time even in our pain...Thank you for allowing me to share in Eric's life for a time and I am so thankful to God for the time we spent with Eric and Billy and some of the other soldiers in Mississippi....little did I know how this would affect the rest of my life...but God did...your son was a true gentlemen and a fine christian man...we love you and if you need anything you call me..."

"Dear Slebodnik family,
I had the pleasure of serving with Eric during Basic Training and AIT. We became good friends during this time. He was such a great person and his intelligence was very apparent. Eric and I would talk for hours about many subjects ranging from books to politics during our time in training. Eric emailed me late in October to see how I was doing and if I had finished my tour in Iraq. This just showed how much he cared. I hadn't seen him since graduation but he always tried to keep in touch. The word of his passing really hit me hard, knowing that on that day the Army and our country lost one of its best. I will always remember Eric's humor and I will always treasure our time together. May God be with you in this time and may the country never forget what Eric has given to our country."
