"Thinking of you today Alberto. Sitting in the CP, watching funny videos before any training exercise, eating burritos, and laughing. God Speed Alberto."

"I had the pleasure of serving with Alberto. When we first meet Alberto was serving as a team leader, while conducting training I noticed that Alberto had a great leadership ability, and recommend that sgt Sanchez attend the next promotion board, Alberto accepted the responsibility of a squad leader and led his squad in Iraq with honor. Alberto would always give vital information to make all operations in Iraq a huge success. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't take a moment to thank Alberto and his family for the ultimate sacrifice a soldier had to do for the freedom we have. God bless Alberto, you are missed by family, friends and a great nation."

"I first met SSG Sanchez back in 2004 while I was serving as the Bravo Company, 1-68 Armor commander. It was December, and the company was bivouacked at Range 131, training squad battle drills. The days were long and cold and the training was repetitive. My 1SG, 1SG Martinez, decided to start a competition between the squads to make it a little more interesting. It was out there on Range 131B that I learned that SSG Sanchez was special. 1SG Martinez’ standards were high, but SSG Sanchez’ were higher. Lesser squad leaders would get frustrated when 1SG Martinez’ unrelenting voice boomed out, “Stop – do it again.” But SSG Sanchez thrived on the tough training, leading his men by the highest quality personal example. Covered in sweat, dust, and cactus thorns, SSG Sanchez’ squad won this humble competition by a mile, earning the coveted title of “Blackhawk Company Top Infantry Squad” out there in the dark on the top of the hill on Range 131. Suffice it to say that the heart and sole of 3rd Platoon was SSG Alberto Sanchez. He was one of the best infantrymen and non-commissioned officers in Blackhawk Company. He will be sorely missed.
SSG Sanchez has left an indelible mark on the Silver Lions. He died defending his country and I am extremely proud to have known and served with him in the profession of arms. Alberto, I will always call you a brother, as do the rest of the Silver Lions. You have now joined an elite few that lead the way on our path in combat. You have joined the few that we will never forget. We will always raise a glass to your honor and sacrifice."
