"I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry at times. I understand, in theory only, that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take your families and friends pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. All my love and respect. ogersteiner@yahoo.com

A hundred times a day, I remind myself that my inner and outer life depends on the labors of other men, living and dead, and I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am receiving. - Albert Einstein"

"To the family and friends,

I only met Charles very briefly, but thinking back on that one instance of time, it was a great moment in time. Charles came up to my tent on the base camp asking us how many people were going downtown. He received word that we were going to see our Iraqi unit downtown and had only so many seats in his tank. "Are you crazy, Lieutenant?", I said to him. "We all (all 10 of us) are going downtown". He replied, "Ooops, well they told me you guys needed a ride." That was the last time I ever saw him again on the base camp. Your service will never be forgotten. "Charlie Pride!""

"Mary Anne,

What a horrifying time for you and the rest of Charlie's family. I only met Charlie twice, but I've been skimming the internet, and every story I see confirms the man that we knew to be strong and honorable, sincere and giving.

I wish I could make this all make sense, but I don't think it will until you stand beside him again at the throne. For now, the best we can do is go on trying to honor Charlie's life by how we live our own.

I'm praying for you and the rest of the Rubados. Come up and visit sometime soon."
Matthew Algren (another cousin) of New Carlisle, Ohio
