"Catherine, Family, Fellow Marines and Friends of SSgt Richardson: I have fond memories of serving with Doug at MCAS Miramar and on recruiting duty at RS Houston. I think about Doug and Catherine daily. I think about 2 LCpls (Military Police) who became great friends and eventually married. Catherine, when you two dated, Doug would keep me informed of how your relationship was progressing. I watched him fall in love with you. He came to my office just prior to proposing to you to inform me of his intent to ask you to marry him. He told me when he was planning leave to go ask for your father's permission to marry you. I will never forget that young, polite Marine, that young man. He remains in my prayers. God bless you and yours and may God bless and keep Doug close to his side."

We love you Doug and wish that we could have been in Texas with the family - being in Okinawa we are so far away! Bull and Sparky we love you too. "Doug,
Both in TX and VA I throughly enjoyed every converstion we had. I wish there had been more. You made me laugh especially when you would joke about being an officers' spouse and attending coffees. I was just thinking about you telling us how the movers had lost part of Catherine's table when you moved to VA as well as the anxious time we spent sitting at the food court awaiting our OCS graduates return flight in to Houston. You were so at ease with us. You touched many lives. I will always remember how proud you looked, in your non-Military best, at the TBS Birthday Ball with Catherine at your side. That was the last time I ever saw you and the memory will be burned forever in my mind. Your memory lives on.
Catherine,
Aaron and I wish we could have attended Doug's funeral or memorial service to pay our respects. I hope you know that our thoughts and prayers are with you now and always. We are only a phone call away."
Michele Awtry of 29 Palms, CA

"To the Richardson family from the Wahl family. Deeply sadden by the news of William. William you arecan American HERO! Thank You for serving our COUNTRY. For being a military brother to our son. I realize serving two differnt branched. You could not of known one another. Still the military family has no boarders. Soldiers watch over one another. You are someone's someone and you are someone to the Wahl family. An hopefully to every american. William takes a very unselfish individual as yourself. Tpo answer the calling to serve our country. Very few ever do! You unselfishly risked everything for us all. To give the Iraqi people HOPE! To one day live in peace. As you have made AMERICA alot safer since 911. Without brave soldiers as yourself. America would not be what? It is today! My heart and prays are with you William and your family. Please reach out to your community and political leaders today. Request a street be named in William's honour. It is the very least his community can do to honour HIM! God Bless! father of fallen soldier US Army Sgt Gregory L. Wahl KIA Balad, Iraq 05-03-04"
