"Matt,
"I still remember the gut wrenching feeling I got when I was in Baghdad, and a fellow Texan who I had established rapport with (knowing that I was from Mason,Tx) came to my post one day with a Mason News Paper in his hand and tears in his eyes. It was as if someone had taken every bit of air from my lungs and punched me in the stomach, when I saw the obituaries. We miss you brother, and you can rest assured that you and your sacrifices will never be forgotten. I continue to pray for your family and will always be proud to call you a brother, and fellow Marine. OORAH!!!!""

"Hello Sue,

On this day, Memorial Day, I can't let the opportunity pass to tell you how much your son made an impact on so many lives. I used to love joking with him about the two of us being the only people in the Marine Corps from Mason Tx. He is missed by so many of us. When I go back to Texas on visits and pass Mason, your son is on my mind as well as you. I hope you are doing well and Matt's siblings."
GySgt Gabriel Flores of Temecula, CA/USA

"I still remember the brave actions you perform, years later...but feels like it all happen yesterday. That day you touched and raised the spirits high on all of us.

To the Puckett family and to his friends and fellow loved ones. Lcpl Puckett perform at his very best in the worst of times. He refuse to go home after the first near fall, that was his wish to told me (Doc) and his Chain. He did not want to leave job unfinish and his fellow marines. Took me a while to get over when you and the others had fallen. Especially you Lcpl, because the amount of time attending to you and Sgt. Alcantar wounds to get you recovered and ready for the fight. Both of you asking me to do all I can to help recover. So day and night I stayed both your sides, after patrols, scrubbing outs wounds, reminding you how you saved those people. You and Sgt. Alcantar move me when you both bonded during recovery. You made the best come out of me those days... Man... I miss you, friend.

-Rest easy, We have the watch now."

"I never met Mathew Puckett, however my husband GYSGT David Kulak thinks he is an honorable Marine. I have the pleasure of Sue blessing us and letting us name our son after Mathew. David sometimes thinks that Mathew is "channeling" Puckett with his behaviors. I love your family Sue and will always honor what your son and our military has done for us."

"I was a friend of Matt's. Matt and I became close over the phone after we met in Vegas a few Novembers ago, shortly before his deployment. Matt and I became close and talked regulary when I returned to Indiana. The last time I spoke to Matt was 3 weeks after he was sent overseas, where he shared many thoughts of his friends and family. He spoke a lot of his patriotism and love for his country as well as his fears of not being there for his wonderful mother and brother and sister. After a while, my letters went unanswered and he stopped calling. I feared the worst and have had no way to contact his family. I learned of his death thru cnn, my heart goes out to his mother, and siblings as I know you have lost someone that loved you more than life. I was unable to attend his funeral because I did not know in time. I know that his family does not know me, but I mourn a wonderful man with you.I pray for your family regularly and miss his friendship so much. I have not had closure with his death because what I know has been the bits and peices I found online. So this is my closure...all my love Matt, America lost a great man, thanks for giving your life for many peoples freedom."
Claire of Indiana

"On March 31, 2006 a friend of Mathew's will be getting married. This man, Joseph R. Mack, who served with Mathew in Iraq, will become my son-in-law. He speaks fondly of Mathew and we wanted to let you know that we will be displaying a memorial table at the wedding, with the pictures and names of five of Joseph's fallen comrades, and Mathew will be among them. We only wish we had a picture of him, too. Thank you Mathew for serving and dying for our country. You are truly blessed for your sacrifice and it is deeply appreciated."

"One of the most humble young men I had the pleasure of serving with in Fallujah, he never would accept the fact that people were making such a big fuss over him after the first incident, I remember he told me "Every ones acting like I am some sort of hero or something" and shrugged it off like he deserved no praise, well my friend you did deserve it and you are a hero, and will never be forgoten.
