"Bill was a wonderful, warm hearted, good natured man, who I remember throughout my childhood as a funny and caring man, and a wonderful friend and fellow soldier to my father, SSG Stephen Goulette. Bill was the first person to lend a helping hand, and was always the last to let another go without. His smile and warm spirit will be forever remembered and he will be sadly missed. His family and friends are always in my thoughts and prayers. I would also like to say a sincere thank you to Bill himself, for his kindness over the years and for his sacrifice so that others may live free. He is a true hero."

"Dear Bill,
I never really knew you
But you seemed like a great guy
Nobody is probably going to be looking at this thing that I wrote
But its worth a try
I didn't know you, but I did know your nephew and son very well
Well, I didn't know your nephew as well as I knew your son
Josh is a good kid
Even if he gets in trouble a lot
And I never really knew Brandon, well, more than just a regular friend
I hope that somebody reads this, because i would want someone to know, that even though, you were the the janitor/bus driver/dad/uncle/ person that I should have known, that I still care.
Yours truly
Elizabeth Conard"

"To Bill's Family:
We know that the 2nd anniversary of Bill's passing is coming up next Wens and we wanted you all to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as this difficult day approaches. The pain never seems to lessen as the days, weeks, months pass, and we want you to be assured that Bill will never be forgotten. I'm hoping that the upcoming service in Washington DC will be part of the healing process for all of us, to know that even strangers care about their memory and the ultimate sacrifice they have made.
Your family is now part of a larger family, those with fallen loved ones, and the love and support we give to each other will help to get us through the next day.
Our loving thoughts to you on this approaching day, to know that a day does not go by that we don't think of Jamie's fellow soldiers who have given their all.
William was a very special man, Stacy, Lizzie and Kathi and his children, and we are here for you always.
Love, Ssgt Jamie Gray's Family"

You were a Great Bus Driver for the time I had you at Barre Town. When you told us that you were headed to Iraq, we were more than upset, but happy you wanted to serve our country at the same time. When Barre Town School first heard you had passed away, Instant Tears came to many peoples faces, including mine. I couldnt believe it. I will always remember you Mr. Normandy, and your loved ones too."

"This is a poem i wrote for my uncle Bill, who is truly my hero and i will never forget him.
The Last Goodbye
It was a shock to lose you in this way
I can't believe that you are gone
it was a sad and very ugly day
The way you died was very, very wrong
For America you lost your life
You left so fast it just can not be true
You had to die for someone elses strife
Since you've been gone I've been so blue
Why did you have to leave us in this way
You were so very far away from home
May you forever and always peaceful lay
My love for you will never, ever die
And so this is my last and sad goodbye."

"To the Family of Bill Normandy, We are thinking of you today as the fellow soldiers that shared in Bill's life as a soldier, return to the US today. We know just how difficult a day it will be but also share that it will be a bittersweet for those of us who have lost a family member fighting for all of us here. We think of all the boys who gave their lives that we might be free of the terror. We will be with you today, as every day, sharing in your grief and remembering Bill for the wondrful man he was. He will be watching over all those returning, as he has been from the beginning, and will never be forgotten. We fully believe he will be there on that glorious day that they walk into the room and be reunited with their families. And as much as we wish he could be there, he will be in spirit, please know that and find some confort in knowing you have the love and support of all the families that will be there. We look forward in sharing the day with you and stand together for all that our soldiers believed in.

"In memory of srg.William Normandy(Dad),
My dad was the greatest and nothing could stop him from going to Iraq, because all he wanted was to help free the innisent lives of the Iraq children and his goal was to come home and be proud of what he did. Evrey one i the family was looking forward to seeing him in two years it was hard to let him go I did'nt want anything to happen to him and when I got the emergency message to go to the office at school I thought I as in trouble then I relized he was gone. My heart and my brother and sisters heart was crushed. The family and the whole school that we whent to and my dad worked at were totally upset. He made the children at the school welcome and that was the best part of school was seeing my dad evrey day. Now all of that has changed but one thing that will not change is that we are a family and family sticks together. Dad you are, alwayshve been and always will be my hero!!! 8)"

"In memory of my dear Uncle Sgt. William J. Normandy. I would like everyone to know that my uncle was a true soldier. He battled situations in life before he went to Iraq, he was the strongst person I had ever known. He delt with alot over the past few years, and he never gave up.... I always admired his perservirece to succede. And now I wish for nothing more than for Uncle William to come back, he got so emotional when he thought about it on the day he left. He wanted nothing more than to be at my graduation next June, yet the invitation shall still remain. I know he will be there with me in spirit, guiding me through the hard times and laughing with me at the good times. I am proud to be the niece of Sgt. William J. Normandy. He touched so many peoples lifes and he will never be forgotten. I love you Uncle Will, and untill my last breath you will be in my thoughts every day. You are my hero and I love you with all my heart. Thank you to everyone whos hearts are with my family, all your thoughts and condolences are is very much appreciated.
