23, of New York, New York.
Mercedes-Saez died in Baghdad, Iraq, when the HMMWV in which he was riding accidentally rolled over into a canal. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Died on February 5, 2006.
