"I've been out of the Army for 9 years and just now came across this news and my heart sank.

MSG Mac came to my platoon as a squad leader shortly before I left the Army. Our time serving together was brief, but I remember him being a very professional soldier, and a stand up guy.

His superiors wanted more NCOs like him, and his subordinates wanted to be like him.

I was not suprised when I heard he made it into the military's premier SOF unit.

"I knew Master sergeant Mike McNulty from high shool,where we along with his brother, Sean ran cross-country and track at our high school.I remember the day they came to visit after high school was out, and wanted me to join the Rangers with them. That would have been a possibly, if not for my just-borned child, Kimberly,I had recently broken my wrist,and would have that cast on my arm for three months. My regrets are not having spent time over the years with them,and their familys,even though they were moving from base to base throughout the world. One proud moment for me was when I introduced Mike and Paula to one another back in 1986. I had them scheduled to walk down the aisle together, and they were inseparable ever since. This has been a hard struggle for me do deal with-losing a bud.He will always been in my thoughts and prayers- as well as his family. May they overcome this tragedy and make their family strong."
