"I met your father today while visiting Arlington with my team, he's with you two to three times a week. He takes care of you and so many other service members who have fallen. He told me your story, and the story of many others around you. You were not forgotten, by your father, by your friends, and now by me. I will tell your story now too. God bless you Lance Corporal. I wish I could have learned your story face to face under happier circumstances. I am from Roseville, CA not far down the road from Grass Valley and Fresno now stationed in Northern VA where today I saw your final resting place. Rest in peace Marine."

"I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry. I understand in theory only that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take the families pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. All my love and respect. ogersteiner@yahoo.com

"John, I remember being in your spanish class when I was a Freshman. You were always so nice and funny. You always made wise cracks about Nieto at the most appropriate times and you made everybody laugh. I just heard about your passing. I know you died doing what you believe in, thank you. You were a great guy and I know that you are in heaven watching over us just like you were in Iraq defending us. God Speed."

"May the angels keep you till morning.
May they guide you through the night.
May they comfort all your sorrows.
May they help you win the fight.
May they keep watch on your soul.
May they show you better ways.
May they guard you while you’re sleeping.
May they see you through your days.
May they show you new hopes.
May they still your every doubt.
May they calm your every fear.
May they hear you when you shout.
May the angels keep you till morning.
More that this I cannot pray.
And if the angels ever fail you.
Then may God be there that day.
Gone – but not forgotten.
Thank you for sharing your marine with us,
and for the sacrifice made by you and your family on our behalf.

"To John's Family,
I have no words to express the grief I feel at hearing of your son's passing. I vow you now, that John will forever be in my mind and heart. As I and thousands of other parents and Americans strive to protect our soldiers against Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and get them them the help they so deserve when they return home,...we will always remember those who didn't make it home...with tears, prayers, and the understanding of the deepest grief a parent can ever experience. God Bless You ALL, help you to take this tragedy and change history because of it.....this poem is on our Josh's website, and I'd like to leave it here for your John also:
The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

"Tony & Naomi,
Thank you for sharing JT life with us during his short time here. He was such a wonderful big brother to Cris, and Cris always enjoyed being able to spend time with him. If it was not for your unselfishness, the boys would of not had as much time together in their life time. I know we all will forever miss JT, but we also will never forget him. And yes.....he has always and will remain our son's HERO. I find comfort that he is now with Cris at all times. God Bless you, and I am always here for you.
Love Always,

"Thank you everyone who has sent their prayers and condolences to our family during this difficult time. Yes, we are humbled by his service to our country, and yes, he died a hero. He has always been a hero to us! Your prayers have certainly brought us comfort. Just knowing that so many people are grateful for his service brings a smile to our faces. During JT's tumultuous childhood, (his parents divorced when he was an infant, (a very bitter divorce), followed by having 4 different step-fathers, numerous re-locations etc...)Because of this, JT was always searching for a true foundation. We are so very grateful that regardless of his rough upbringing, we were able to provide him that sense of security and stability that he felt he lacked when he wasn't with us. We raised him here in Fresno until he was 15 years old, then he relocated to grass valley with his mother, her 4th husband, and 1 of his 2 half siblings. He had a very difficult time re-adjusting to a different life, different surroundings. We were blessed to have such a wonderfully close relationship with JT, even when others tried to make that impossible. God is good, isn't he. And now God is taking care of our boy, our marine. For 19 years we were the luckiest parents in the world!
Thank you again for all of your prayers and condolences!!"
