"It has been awhile since I have been on here, and I love seeing the new messages. I think of you EVERY single day, but for some reason you are really on my mind today. I thought by now, dealing with you being gone would be easier, but it is till so tough. I feel like you have missed out on so much, the kids growing up. Austin reminds me of you so much, especially now that he is getting older. It makes me laugh because he will go sit in his truck with the music "booming", just like you used to do! He doesn't talk that much until you get him talking about the Gators (yea, just like you!). Chad, I love you so much and miss you that much more. I wish so bad that I could take these last few years back and change what has happened. Things are not the same without you and I wish you were here. We love you so much bubby."

"Chad, I still remember when you stayed at our house while your Dad was up north giving one of his kideys to save his sister, that is what you and your family are about. I knew the day I saw you and Courtney at the ball park in Anthony playing catch with Michael and Courtney doing cartwheels with Ashlea that you would play an important part in my life. I watched you grow up into a wonderful man. I am so proud that you became part of my family, they say blood is thicker than water but I can't imagine us being any closer than if you had been my blood. Keith and I think of you often and it is wonderful to hear all of Michael and Ashlea's kids see someone in uniform and say hey he reminds me of Uncle Chad. We will be there tomorrow to celebrate your life on Chad Lake day. We love you Chad and the plants that you help me plant some many many years ago are still alive and strong just like our love for you. "I still remember the first time I met you, standing on my front porch at 6 am. I was wondering who you were until you told me who you were with. (Gotta love drunk friends, eh?) I knew you for such a short time before you were deployed and there is so much I wish we had done. I wish I knew you better, and I'm sad we never got that chance. I wear the bracelet with your name on it and tell everyone who asks me about it why I wear it.

"I dont know what to say right now. i just found this webpage on you lakedaddy, and one of the first things i read was my name. "Hey Chad,

It seems like yesterday we were in Germany with SGT Colin Closs at Crazy Feet night club. I met you as a Private fresh to the Army way of life. Between you and Colin you made me feel like a brother, it didn't matter what the color of my skin was. After you left for the states we met up again at Ft. Stewart. It was like we picked up from where we left off. We made if throught OIF I with lots of memories and with a renewed look on life. Just as we were just getting use to being back home it was time to pack it up and go again. We all didn't want to leave, but it is our loyalty to our family and country that put us on that plane. Being in the Ruff Rider Platoon with you was the best of brotherhood bonds I will never forget. Our whole platoon was like a well tuned engine firing on all cylinders. BLUE Platoon was a home away from home. As the senior scout in the platoon you made sure that all of us stayed in high sprits with your humors personality. As the second anniversary comes tomorrow I just wanted to say I miss you brother. Some nights when I close my eyes I can see you face as I pulled you from the Hummvee. I wish I could have done more for my friends and brothers that morning. I just wish it would have never went down the way it did. I love you man, see you when we meet in the sky.

To the family of Chad my heart has a special place for you. I know how you feel because I feel it everyday. I miss my brother, but I know he would want us to continue being strong.

Chad (BLUE 2) I will always remember you bro, BLUE 2, "THIS IS BLUE 5, I WILL CONTINUE MISSION, BLUE 5, OUT."

"Freedom Quilts is sending you a quilt to honor your son. You pain we can never understand unless we walk your shoes. They say time heals but for a parent it really doesn't you just keep it all hiding so others don't see your pain. The quilt is for those day that you just can't hide it anymore and you need to let it out. Wrap yourself in your quilt and know that the rest of us care and want to comfort you with this quilt. We hope you received it and if you like to contact us and know of others that have lost a love one and wishes to receive a quilt whether it be a parent or spouse please have them contact me so I can send them a quilt. The quilts are free for those that gave us heroes this is our way of honoring them by honoring the family. My website is www.freedomquilts.net and my email is debeniel@ncn.net if you need to contact me or if anyone else needs to contact me to receive a quilt. God bless and take care and please know you will always be in our prayers so God will continue to give you strength and courage to keep going."

"Chad,
Wow! What a beautiful page and memorial. You truly were a great friend to all of us. I will never forget "born on the 4th of July" - the birthday party we threw you at that park in Germany with the Christina Aguilera cake I made you.....you coming into the barracks singing "OOps I did it again" and your crazy little dance. Wendy says she misses her little "last resort dance partner"! LOL! The memories are endless. Everyone who knew you hurts for this loss. You will always be remembered."

"Today, we are celebrating SSG. Chad W. Lake Day. They say time heals, but it hasn't yet. I think its harder to deal with now then when we got the news of your death. As time goes by it's that much more that I miss you. I think of you every single day and miss you even more every day. By the support of your friends both here and in the Army, it shows just how much you were loved and respected not just by us your family, but also your friends and co-workers. This country lost one of the finest men it had, when we lost you. It makes me proud that I am your sister. Forever greatful to you Chad. Forever missed. Forever loved.

This message is a late addition to the list because we live in Illinois now and just happened to learn of Chad's death on a Memorial Day weekend list of Fallen Heroes. It was a shock to hear of your loss, and I can't tell you how sorry we all are. In memory, we were transported back to the days of the MCYFL Colts and those good times. "To my hero, my brother, my best friend, Lately I have been at a loss for words. You were, are, and always will be our hero. We have all had such a hard time accepting this. I'm still waiting for you to call and tell me your OK. We all miss you so much. My kids will always remeber you and honor you. Austin absolutly adored you and looked up to you and really really misses you. Madison is a fighter and tries not to let it bother her, but talks about you often. Trey hasn't had much time with you and is too little to understand, but I promise you, he will know who his Bubby is. I keep a locket with your picture in it around my neck and every day he asks me to open it so he can say Hi to Bubby. I am so glad we got those bracelets for each other for Christmas, I wear it every day and we let Austin have yours, and he does not take it off. It breaks my heart that you are gone, but I am so proud of you and the rest of the brave soldiers defending our country. May you rest in peace. I love you."
