"I miss you, brother.
I guess out of anyone in the unit, you and I were closest. I still remember you jumping out of the second story window of your barracks room in your skivvies to avoid CQ and me covering for you. You came back 10 minutes later in your brown briefs, t-shirt, barefoot and shaking after I opened the side door to sneak you back in. They always came to you for CQ or Staff Duty, because they knew you weren't a drinker, so would likely be sober if someone got sick or whatever. I taught you to always open the door after taking a swig and with an open bottle after that, lol.
I'm one of the few that knew your pre-army life well. Lots of conversations in the field while training and it was 10+ below zero, just trying not to freeze to death.
I was honored to be among the men that were on your detail. I miss your stupid grin man. It's been 20 years and I still think about you all the time."

"John, I learned of your passing only a few days ago (almost 11 yrs late)... I have so many things I would love to be able to tell you what I should have told you so many years ago... You are one of the few people in my entire life that actually took the time and put in the effort and was actually able to see who I really was and not who I was trying to be. You have always had a place in my heart and my mind...
...until we meet again...
And to John's family, Domenica, Charity & Christian... Nothing I or anyone else can say or do will ease the pain of lossing John for y'all, even after all this time... But, I will say that I am truly sorry for your loss. I haven't seen or spoken with John or any of y'all since y'all moved away so many years ago... He was a wonderful person... And y'all are a wonderful family... I miss all of you!"

"John is the oldest brother of my best friend in the world, his loss still crushes the family daily. The worst times are when someone thoughtlessly says "We are fighting this war for nothing". That effectively says "your brother died for nothing". Be careful with your words, for you never know who is listening, and words like this cause the blackest of days for Christain, who misses his brother every minute of every hour."
Chrisie of Picayune, Ms

Hopefully they will all come home soon. Lest we forget!!"
