"I wanted to send a note thanking Patrick and your family for your sacrifice for our Nation. My father in law is buried close to Patrick (John Murphy), and I always say a prayer for Patrick and make sure his gravesite is in tip top condition when I visit. I work with Marines in Quantico, VA, and am forever impressed with their honor, courage, and commitment to service. No doubt your son exemplified these virtues; no doubt your family does as well, as a family of a fallen Marine. I pray for your peace in this time of sacrifice. Very respectfully, Christopher Allen"
Christopher Allen of Fredericksburg, VA

"Mr. & Mrs. Kenny. My name is (former) LCpl. David Kenny. Your son was killed on my birthday, October 6. Although I never met Patrick while he was alive, as fate was have it, I was working at the mortuary in Dover delaware, training to be a personnel recovery specialist, when he was brought home. Aside from being the same rank & last name, and Patrick passing on my birthday, he and I physically look a lot alike, and even have the same USMC tattoo in the same font, on the same arm. Out of everything I experienced during the wars and my time in the Corps. My brief encounter with your son has stuck with me longer than anything else. It made me acknowledge and come to terms with my own mortality as well as how cruel and unfair life can be. I still think of Patrick often and appreciate what he taught me about the brevity of life. I regret that I was unable to get to know your son, but wanted you to know that he had a profound and positive impact on my life, as I'm sure he did on countless others with his time on this earth. I am eternally grateful for him and his sacrifice and wanted to extend my sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones. I will never forget Patrick Kenny."

"Pat,

I miss you man. I can not believe that eight years ago today, you were taken away from us. There aren't too many days that go by where I don't think of our friendship, and the dreaded day that you were KIA. I always enjoyed talking football with you and just shooting the breeze. You left us way too early man. It just isn't fair. You were a hell of a Marine and I miss you dearly my friend. I often think about how we never got to play each other in Madden. I still haven't been able to fully forgive myself for not being able to make it over to your hooch before you went out into the field. God Bless you and your family. Rest in peace my fallen brother. I will never forget your sacrifice!

"Mr. and Mrs Kenny,
My name is GySgt Jason bennett. I have to apologize for the time that has passed before I could find the strength to extend these feelings to you. I was in Golf Company for both of your sons tours in Iraq. For a while, I was his Platoon Sergeant and for another while, his Platoon Commander. I remember the day that we lost this fine Marine. Not a day goes by when I dont think about it. I want you to know that your son had a true gift to inspire others during the worst of conditions. there were times that he made me laugh myself to tears. He was the only one in the platoon who I trusted to be my driver while we were in Iraq. He was always so respectful and had the strongest conviction for his opinions. He was a natural leader and positive icon of our platoon. I will never forget his professional demeanor, uplifting attitude, or his genuine love and concern for his fellow Marines. Your son was a gift and I want to thank you for raising him with your values and lending him to our Corps. I pray for your family daily. I hope that it isnt to late for you to read these words. Please know that I feel indebted to your family and if there is ever anything that I can do for you, please give me the honor of doing just that. I move around a lot but my email address is constant: bengy54@hotmail.com God bless you all."

"I have not written on here because, frankly, I didnt know what to say. I have tried to forget Pat, to forget my best friend. We were best friends, and roommates, who had their shares of ups and downs together, as all friends do. I feel so guilty for trying to move on, to forget all the times we shared. I havent stayed in touch with your family, because you told me you didnt want any of us doing that. But I should have gone against your wishes and payed my respects more. To the Kenny family...I am sorry. To Pat, I am sorry..for everything. - Doc Justin Ledsome"

"I am sorrier than I can ever say for the loss of Pat. I was in 2/2 Golf Co. with him, and Kenny was a great friend of mine in the Marine Corps, and I'm sorry that he was lost in this God-forsaken war. He was an absolutley wonderful friend, and he wouldn't hesitate to give any of his fellow marines the shirt off of his back. He was, and is, and outstanding example of what it means to be a Marine, a friend, an American, and a human being. I wish to Christ that he would've made it home to Pittsburgh to root for the Steelers and drink beer with his friends. I love you Pat, and I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry."

"To the Kenny Family:

I served as a member of 2/2 during both deployments to Iraq. I also attended SOI with your son. We were good friends and always used to talk football together. When I received the news that Pat got killed I was in denial. I just refused to believe that it was him that got killed. I wrote Art Rooney the president of the Steelers and asked if they would do something to honor your son at one of the upcoming home games. I was trying to see if they would put his initials on the back of their helmets, but due to the high volume of requests by other service members families they were not able to do that. However on one sunday night game they honored every fallen comrade from all wars past to present and he sent me pictures of it. Im sorry for your loss. I will always miss Pat and their will never be a day in which i wont remember him. You guys did a good job raising him, he was well known and well liked by everyone. Take care and my thoughts and prayers are with you."

"I was LCpl Kenny's Senior Drill Instructor, Platoon 3068, MCRD Parris Island SC, Graduated 29 Aug 2003. I would like to extend my sympathy to his family and friends. I spent 3 months with this extrordinary individual, and was proud to make him a Marine. He served his country bravely and gave the ultimate sacrifice. Out of the 8 platoons in graduated from 2001-2004 I have lost 10 former recruits in Iraq. I hope the Spirit and Discipline I tried to instill in these great men proved effective on the battlefield."

"Dear Mr and Mrs Kenny,
It is with my deepest sadness that I have to send a memorial in memory of your son. I enjoyed our conversation while serving as his Company Gunnery Sergeant during our 2004 tour. He and I spoke a lot and I always enjoyed his cander and most respectful demeanor. He is and always will be a fine Marine. I would like to tell you that he was the finest of many I have had the opprtunity to serve with. His smile moved mountains and always cheered his fellow Marines up. He will be missed by us all and I will always carry his memory close to my heart. I share your pain because I always told the Marines that as long as I were there nothing would ever hurt them. I am so deeply hurt by Lance Corporal Kenny's passing and I want your family to know that if there is anything I can do, all you have to do is ask.
