"Dear Alain; My family and I miss you so much. When your Mom died I was crushed to lose my best friend. When you, your sister and Dad came to visit us it was difficult without Agnes, but so sweet that you all were here. When your Dad died none of us could believe the loss of two friends so close in time. When we heard from Sidney that you died in Iraq we all felt broken, angry and lost. Especially Rick (RJ) since you guys were friends for 18 yrs., you met as toddlers. Even when you and your family moved away you boys kept in touch via internet and your parents kept in touch with us by phone and writing. Today is Veterans Day 2007 and the sadness is still with us. We try to keep in touch with your sister. I buy things throughout the year to give to her. I wish we were closer. I met your Aunt when she brought Sidney to see us. I hope Sidney is doing as well as she seems. It's good she has some family up there and Marilyn. You will never ever be forgotten. Thank you for your friendship and service. Love & Prayers, Michelle, Rick, RJ, Danny & Ben Nelson"

"Alain
Where could I start? I miss you more than I could ever put into words. Nothing can do justice to the pain I feel, but the happiness I remember from you. You were my best friend- just the 'four' of us, remember? I couldnt have grown up with a better guy in my life. You are my brother, a true love, and I can't wait until I see you again. You are my hero."

"Alain was a soldier in the United States Military. There is no greater gift a person can give to his country--more specifically, the people of his country. Servicemen enlist under a wide variety of circumstances but all make the same promise: to fight so the rest of us won't have to.

The United States prides itself on having an entirely volunteer military. We could be like many countries around the world and mandate military service, but, thanks to people like Alain, this is not necessary. I was fortunate enough to be personal friends with an individual who called herself Alain's best friend. I knew of Alain's struggle in Iraq and I was able to read messages he sent home about his faith in the mission and his lack thereof.

I took a serious interest in the world of politics in the year 2004 during the election. I displayed false passion to make my arguments more convincing against the war in Iraq and George W. Bush. After George W. won the election, I was deeply saddened. On the day of Bush's inaguration I was informed of Alain's death (with the knowledge of Alain's feelins about the war). I was at my computer and was informed through an instant message. I looked at my television screen and saw the president dancing with his wife Laura-- his kids smiling in the background-- his loyal followers applauding. His kids. I find it odd that a man who feels so passionately about this "noble cause" will not allow his own daughters to enlist. Are they not of age to serve? But of course, they have no need to serve because we have honest, decent, and brave young people such as Alain to fight for our government whether the cause be justified or not.

I could lose interest in this topic. I could show more interest in areas most teenagers would be concerned with. Alain is my reminder not to. The war has not yet ended, and won't until people by the thousands know stories such as Alain's. My love and support to Alain's family, and all who were close to him."
Billy Glidden of Massachusetts

"Alain,

It's been a little over a year since we got the news and it still hurts as much as the first day we heard. I am so happy that you served our country proudly, but I am so upset that they took you away from us. We were all just starting to get really close to you. I miss you. Take care of yourself up there and give your love to your Mom and Dad for me."

"You truely are my HERO!! I recieved your name and have sponsored you on herobracelets.org . I will wear this bracelet proudly in your memory. I am also in the Military and am currently overseas. I am proud to serve with such fine people like you. Thank You cannot even say enough. God Bless you and the United States of America.

Your Friend and Fellow Soldier,"

"Alain,

You were the beloved son, loving brother, caring cousin and dedicated soldier that we all knew and loved. Looking up at the sky, we know that you're now in the arms of your parents and are being vigilant over Sydney. Sydney couldn’t have been blessed with a more loving set of parents and brother. You’ll forever be in our memories, thoughts and prayers...

Your cousin,"

"Alain, we were best friends...You made me smile when i had no reason to, and you made my cry when you sent me flowers on mothers day...you truly were an inspiration for everyone, i think back to all the times we talked on the phone from like 9 at night til like 4 am, and how you told me i sound sexy when im tired lol...we made a promise to eachother to get married if the relationship with cory didnt work out..i just wish you were here to share the happiness of moving forward in mine and corys relationship, i know you wanted me to be happy and i am...i just wish you were here to share it with me, i miss you every day...i know you're looking down on all of us, i cry a lot but i think about how strong of a person you were when your parents died and when you couldnt see your sister all the time, your friendship meant the world to me and there wasnt much i wouldnt do to make you happy in return i love you tremendously and you will always always remain in my heart, i love you!"

"Alain,

This is just unbelievable. I can't imagine living, knowing you won't be there to help me through the tough times and to be there through the good times. You are the bravest, most selfLESS person I have ever known. I love you dearly and will always remember the times we've had. The things and moments we've gone through together will never be forgotten. Be good up there, say hi to your mom and dad for me. Tell them I miss them dearly. Till we meet again.

P.S. I will not forget the promise I made to you. l8a"

"I am so blessed to have known you while you were here on this earth. God works in mysterious ways, but you are now with your parents watching over Sid. I will never forget all the moments of joy you brought into my life. Every minute I spent with you was a miracle in itself. I always told you you were the strongest person I've ever met, and that will never change because you taught me to be strong as well. My family's prayers and sympathy go to your family, friends, and most importantly your sister. One day we'll be together again and be able to continue those moments of pure bliss."
