"Hey buddy! It's hard to believe it's been almost 10 years since you've been gone. I think of you often, Joshua. You were such a great person. You were just a little tot when I first met you. I am also proud to have been your stepmomma for 9 years as well. I still remember the first day I ever heard you sing. I mean really sing and I was in awe! You could sing like an Angel. I remember you excited about singing in church. We went and bought some soundtracks and I got the pleasure of helping you with your singing, although you didn't need much help. You sang beautifully. I still have video tapes of you singing and get them out every once in a while. I also have the cross and thorn picture you drew for mawmaw. You were a great artist as well. Such a talented young man. Your youngest bubby is leaving for college in 20 days. He got accepted at a prestigious college on a full track scholarship. He gets many talents from his big brother :) So hard to believe he's all grown up. He thought the world of you and I know you loved him too. Watch over you little bro while away at college. Gone-But-Never-Forgotten!"

"Hey bro it's been many years since you passed, I still feel guilty that you didn't come home. I love and miss you man. I remember the day you died like it just happened. I will continue on and keep you in my memories. You were a major inspiration to me over seas and quickly became one of my best friends though we didn't know each other for long. One day I'll see you and be able to shake your hand and tell you face to face I'm sorry, and that it has been an immense honor to have served this country by your side."
Robert hulbert of Michigan

The pain is not as intense as it once was but will always be there. I am still so proud of you. I am also touched by the comments and love showed on just this page for you. I keep telling myself I will see you soon. I can't wait. Love you and miss you always.- Mamma"

"Dear Joshua,
I didn't know you, but my husband did. I want to think you and your family for all that they gave up in this ongoing battle. My husband wishes he would've convinced the LT to let you stay under my husband's command. My husband has now asked to redeploy in your honor. Hopefully he'll make you proud. He feels as if he has unfinished business. I'm sorry for your family's loss. May God Bless Your Family!"

"”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Almost 2,150 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and want you know that everyone here at Project Compassion does and will always CARE.
Contact us directly at Projectcompassion@manti.com or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.
Sincerely and Respectfully,

"I was leaving a message for my brother and came across Johua's site. I am sorry for your loss. I find that as time goes bye, I still have the same hurt as I did the day I lost my brother. Life goes on and somehow time does not change the love I had for Shawn, as I am sure the feeling of Joshua's family is the same. I choose today to hold on to the 22 years of memories I had with my brother than the 4 I have'nt, it makes life alot easier. I no longer am mad at God for taking him away, I thank God for putting him in my life. I will always remember all of the fallen heroes for what they have given to us not just for being brave and defending our country, but for being special people to the families that the have left behind. Thank you Joshua for being among the special young people that has left the rest of us with something to learn from. Not just for being a hero but for touching the lives of a country to have unconditionally loved others."
