"Dave, you were my first introduction to an infantry squad leader. Thank you for the discipline, the example, and the great times on the back 40 of Fort Campbell, the TOW ranges at Fort Knox, and our camaraderie strengthen by fire during the invasion if Iraq. I love you brother, and I will never forget"

"I went through OSUT with Davey. We used to love singing around the barracks. Every time I hear Hotel California I think of him. I'd sing Desparodo and he'd tell me what a hillbilly I was. His smile and positive attitude will always be what I remember most. We bumped into each other all around Ft. Campbell. Davey you were one in a million. Not just a great soldier but a great man. I wish I could been there to have taken your place. Strike and Kill. Screaming Eagle forever."

"I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry. I understand in theory only that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take the families pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. All my love and respect. ogersteiner@yahoo.com

"I did not know David L. Herrera. I attended the church service at Orlando First Baptist on Memorial Day weekend. There the church organized a flag ceremony for every fallen soldier from the War on Terror. I was presented with a flag representing David. I will never forget his bravery and selflessness. I will think of him and everyone close to him everyday and pray for him and his loved ones often. I wish the best for everyone affected by his loss. I am proud to be an American for people like David and because of him I have the freedom to do so. David's name lives on and I will spread it as well."

"SGT Herrera was a soldier's soldier, and he will always be my hero. I'm sure he is looking down on us today with a rucksack on his back. He was one of those guys that didn't need a ranger tab because he had infantry blue running through his veins and a ranger tab branded on his heart. We'll miss you brother."
