Hartwick died in Baghdad, Iraq, when his Apache helicopter crashed while conducting a combat air patrol. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 4th Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Died on April 1, 2006.
