"Devin,
Not a day goes by that i dont think of you. I think of all the good times we had. That is the way i like to remember you. The good memories are the best! Like the one time me and Ashley stayed the night and you and Drew had bunkbeds at the time, I had heard a noise in the closet and you and Drew told me it was the cookie monster and i cried! That is one of my favorites! I miss you so much! It has been hard without you but i know you are always with me. I cant express the feeling of you really being gone but i can express how much i love you and miss you! You were an amazing cousin and i am so proud of you! I will see you again one day and until that day comes you will be in my heart and thought of all the time!
Love you,"

I wish I could take the families pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. "I had the pleasure and honor of meeting Devin a couple of times before he left for basic training. I served with the 706 and was deployed with the 656 in January 03'. I was there with my friends from the 706 at Devins memorial. I have spent years wondering why some die and others dont, and my conclusion is God sometimes needs his Angels to work in heaven instead of earth. Devin's memory will forever live on, we will all be united again."

"Devin,
Hey battle, I still remember the day you were pissed off at me in Texas when we hit the fence with our truck and our sergeant took away our passes! We were scrubbin rocks while everyone else was out drinkin and partying it up! Remember when we'd go out on those night missions and we would talk about all the fun we were going to have when we got back home! Remember when you and Jones were teasin me because I got my orders to go to Iraq and I wasnt even out of training yet! HA yeah well I think about all the good times we had in basic and AIT. I think about how we both joined for the same reasons, I think about how both of us did everything together while we were in training! I didn't want to believe when I heard you were gone, but soon ill be up there with you! We are all here temporarily, we are all just stopping by! There is not a single day that passes when I dont think about you! But yeah I'm all grown up now, I have a beautiful son named Elijah and he means everything to me. You better be rockin out in heaven! I remember you used to sing your rock songs when we would go out on those missions! Well I miss you brother and your missed very much! Your family has my condolences, I wish to be contacted by your friends and family for info on your resting site, E-Mail me with any info @ dask909@hotmail.com, thank you"

I still don't know why it has taken me so long to write you a note. I have started writing several times but always stopped for some reason.
Your family was always very good to me when we were growing up, and I enjoyed getting to know you and Drew.
I just want to say that I'm making my way into the military as a doc and that you have given me alot of inspiration to serve.
I'll continue sending my prayers your way.

"Dear Grella Family and friends of Devin,
In light of Memorial Day let my simple words help your pain in the loss of such a wonderful life. I did not know Devin but one thing that I had in common with him was that we were both in the 706th Trans. Co. My time in the military ended just before we went to War in Iraq and I cannot express my gratitude for brave soldiers like Devin who have given the ultimate sacrifice for this great country we live in. Although I did not know him i can read what everyone says and it is obvious to me that he had a very kind heart. He is truly a hero to me and his service will not be forgotten by me. If there is anything else that I could do to help ease the pain of your loss please let me know. God Bless the USA and young soldiers like Devin who do more than just defend our Country in times of peace.... He has left his home, family and friends, without hesitation to do what he knew in his heart was what he was called to do...Serve his Country. He has served his country with honor and pride and will be in my thoughts forever. Thank You Devin!"

"Devin,
I will never ever forget you and the smile you always brought to my face. I remember the first day i saw you at EFY and was instantly crushing on you. You've always been a great friend to me. I remember hanging out with you the day before you left. We had lots of fun taking pictures with your phone and just hanging out. I remember the kiss goodbye you gave me and how much i truley cared about you and told you that i would miss you and was scared for you to go. I feared the moment i'd never get to see you again. I just wanted you to stay home so i could get the chance to be with you. We knew each other for a few years and now everytime i hear our song that you dedicated to me "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith i get chills and begin to cry but remember how happy you always were and you always made me. You'll always be a hero in my heart and i can't wait to see you again in heaven. I miss you. My love goes out to you and your family. If you guys ever need anything please tell me AFNSYNCGRL@hotmail.com.
I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While you’re far away dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure
Don’t want to close my eyes
I don’t want to fall asleep
Cause I’d miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I’d still miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
Lying close to you feeling your heart beating
And I’m wondering what you’re dreaming
Wondering if it’s me you’re seeing
Then I kiss your eyes
And thank God we’re together
I just want to stay with you in this moment forever
Forever and ever
Don’t want to close my eyes
I don’t want to fall asleep
Cause I’d miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I’d still miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
I don’t want to miss one smile
I don’t want to miss one kiss
I just want to be with you
Right here with you, just like this
I just want to hold you close
Feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment
For all the rest of time
Don’t want to close my eyes
I don’t want to fall asleep
Cause I’d miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I’d still miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
Don’t want to close my eyes
I don’t want to fall asleep
I don’t want to miss a thing

"Dear Family
I had the pleasure of meeting you all in St. Augustine Florida in May of 2004. Devin along with his brothers would meet us by the pool to play a quick hand of Euchre. I saw Devins picture when his mother was on TV. I couldn't believe my eyes. Devin and I talked about his plans. I remember asking him "are you sure you want to do this?" He said, without a doubt. I just played back the video tape of us playing cards. He was laughing and having such a good time. How blessed I was to have met a hero.
May God hold you close to him."

"To the Grella Family, My husband served in Iraq with Devin and although it has been over a year now, we wanted to extend our sorrow for the loss of your son. He was a great soldier and my husband has the highest respect for him and your family. We had the honor of meeting your other son, Dustin, last New's Years and he gave us the strength we much needed to get through our own ordeal. We were blessed that my husband was able to come home from Iraq yet there is not a day that goes by that Devin is not in our hearts and our thoughts as we continue to pray for the soldiers overseas that give us our freedom everyday. Your son is our "HERO"."

"Devin and I went to basic training together. We were lucky to be in the same platoon and squad. He reminded me a lot of myself. Always making us laugh. There was one time when the Drill Sergeant couldn't help but to laugh also. I'll always remember the good time we had together. We shall meet again. 2 Fingers!!!"

"Some time has passed and I still can not mentally leave Iraq. I try to ignore the news, the gratitude from fellow Americans, and the questions from curious acquaintances, but my year spent with the 706 TC stays with me. I even distance myself from the Army Reserves and try to live my life. But then today I decided to look up your son, Devin, and another soldier from my unit by the name of David Hartman and I became emotional. I can hardly describe to you the impact that your son's fate has had on me and probably all others who were with us in the Taji "prison". Despite our differences we were truly a family. Any one of us could have lost our lives that day, and for reasons unknown to us God chose Devin. I am deeply sorry for your loss, and I hope that someday I can repay him for what he has freely given."
D.J. Cram of Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
"I remember meeting you for the first time in 3rd grade on the basketball court. We became the best of friends shortly there after and our days of watching the Bulls and Cavs games together are days I will never forget. Our unhealthy but fun obsessions with Mark Price and Michael Jordan will last a lifetime. The memories we shared will never be forgotten. I never thought June 3rd would be the last day I would see you again, but I do remember the last thing I said you. I told you how proud I was of you, and how much I loved you, and that you could tell me all about it when you get back. That day will not come anytime soon. Just know I think about you all the time. Anytime I pick up a ball or step on the football field, it is for you. In my heart is where I keep you friend. One love for eternity, and I'll see you when I get there. Prayers to the family and friends as we shall now remember the legacy Devin has left behind."
Adam Feeks of Medina, Ohio
"I went to basic training with Devin, I had the privilege of being his friend for those 9 weeks. I wrote in his "yearbook" from basic, never thinking I wouldn't see him again. He always talked about that big screen tv he was going to buy when he got home, about his family, and how much he loved his brother. I offer my deepest sympathy to his family and friends back home, Devin is someone I'll never forget."

"I did not know devin well. He was one of my brothers friends in high school. Devin and my brother traveld tothe state meet to wath the girls run. Devin of course drove as he loves to drive. Devin drove along the sholder of the rode on the tracks that are ment to warn a driver that they are too close to the shulder the entire trip. I found out that Devin had died when my history teacher who had tought Devin had writen on the board "God Bless Devin Grella" the moment he said that Devin had been killed in Iraq was shocking. We hadent had contact with my brother, who is also in the service and served in Operation: Iraqi Freedom on an aircraft carrier, scence he called monthes ago from Missisipi the day he left. I knew my brother had not known Devin joind the Army, he asumed Devin was going to go on a mison trip like he always wanted to, when my brother got leeve for thanksgiving before he had to go to his next base, he could say nothing after being told of Devins death. I know Devin would have canged many peoples lives if he had gone on a mission trip. May God bless devin and all of the souls he touched."

"Having moved to North Carolina from Medina last winter it was not until this morning, December 26th, I learned of Devin's death. His selflessness in giving his life to defend our country is extremely admirable.
Although I did not know him personally, during the thirteen years we resided in Medina your family was a presence in our lives from the start - from our first renting one of your apartments for a few weeks waiting for our house to be ready, through all the sporting and music events we all attended over the years raising our families; I always enjoyed exchanging kind words between us. I cannot know your grief but definitely feel your pain, my heart goes out to you.
I will keep you all in my prayers."

"Dear the Grella Family,
I knew devin from church youth activities. And he seemed to always have a smile on his face, and always wanting to make other people happy. My happiest memory of him was at a Youth Conferance a couple years ago, He was in my group, and I was sad I had to be leave me best friend. And I sat beside him, and he asked what was wrong and i told him, and he told me not to worry, cause is it now his duty to make me have fun.lol. And I really got to know him and see the kind person he was. I remember on the ride home, I had this huge grin just thinking of devin. He will always have a place in my heart. And I love him so much as a brother.
