"Today in school we had to read about someone who died on our birthday, Donald was the first person to come up who passed on my birthday. I was 3 years old at the time. Reading the messages from family and friends brought tears to me. I'm sorry for your loss. Reading about Donald has made me think about the impact people in the army make everyday."

"Hey Guardian Angel, Wow 7 years and 5 months have gone bye so quickly, and it still feels like yesterday when I had to hold our daughter and tell her, daddy was not coming home, and had gone on to be with Jesus. Donald my heart hurts so much at times all I can do is close the door to my room and scream as hard as I can into a pillow and pray for peace. Our daughter is so beautiful now and she is becoming such a remarkable young lady. I know you are very proud of her, Shaquarius and Donald Jr.. These children of ours are growing up to be beautiful, smart, wise, strong, loving, and awesome young adults. I remember when we just married, and pregnant in Hawaii, MAN OH MAN that was a learning but awesome experience I had with you the first 3 years of our marriage. Then VA for 2 years and Fort Riley for the rest. I love you my Angel and even though we divorced in 2004 and remarried we were good friends and awesome parents. You Donald taught me a lot in life I miss you. Till next time, RIP MY GUARDIAN ANGEL!"

"Donald:
It's your counterpart, Michael. I still feel the effects of your loss, bro. In spite of past conflicts between you and I, I'm SO glad that we made amends before you left to Our Maker.
Your daughter Cassandra misses you a lot and I can only begin to say how privileged I am to raise her as my own. Yes, she still loves you, to this day. Taneka misses you too and I respect that as her being your former wife.
Once again, the fact that we came together months before you died showed the true essence of who you were, superseding your faults and my own. With that said, all I have left is this: Godspeed, SSG Furman.
Sincerely yours and in Christ,
SPC Abréu"

"To the Furman Family, please accept my most heartfelt condolences. Donald was small, 3 year old energetic ball of fire when I met him in 1978. I dated and married his aunt, Angela Furman, and spent considerable time around the family. Donald was a little rascal that grew up into a proud, responsible, accountable, and strong husband, father, and leader. His aunt spoke glowingly about how he had accomplished so much, and had joined the service as I did. It hurts me to know this man I'd only known as a child is gone. To his wife and children, his wonderful grandmother, and the Furman family, God bless you all."
