"It's been 20 years since your passing... However, I never forgotten the day you told me I am married, I am going to have a baby, and day your son was born... You touched some many lives in different ways in your brief time on this earth in ways others can't imagine... Some people can be given a life time on this earth and accomplish nothing, and there are some people who are given a short time and accomplish so much... You Mr. Flores-Mejia aka Ricky was that person and soldier who accomplish so much in your shoft tme... As I see the days pass by, and the war seems to be a distant memory, your memory is still alive in my life, and still on this and like other days with my grandchildren I sit back like we did many times and listen to those West Coast oldies... "I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry. I understand in theory only that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take the families pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. All my love and respect. ogersteiner@yahoo.com

"i remember the weeks before you left, how we bulked you up with all those nasty bodybuilder shakes, the faces you made were priceless! i remember taking you to the "devil's punchbowl" where you looked like a little kid jumping all over the place while jessica and i soaked up the sun. i remember asking you a million questions about if you were scared and anxious about going to basic, i was scared, but you never were. i remember trying to take a picture but you wouldnt keep your tounge in your mouth, you were so goofy and playful. i remember you loved your family more than anything. i knew you since kindergarden, i joined the army with you... same mos and everything. i remember the day my phone rang and my mom told me that you had died. i remember that day more than anything. i wear a bracelett with your name on it. our picture of the last day i saw you still hangs in my mom's house. everytime i go home, i still go by where your body lays. when i was in iraq all i could think about was you. i got married and am about to be a mom, it scares me. i miss you. my mom has the cutest pictures of when we were in elementry school together, i miss you sooo much. ill never forget you."

"To "Ricky," as we all knew him. He was an extraodinary talent with the pencil, and will be missed by us, and all his friends. I will always remember our childhood hikes, and how every time he would say that "I know this place like the back of my hand...what the hell is that?!" Now that he's been laid to rest there, in those same mountains we once walked, one day, when we meet again, he will truley say to me " I know this place like the back of my hand." To my friend, Ricky."
