"I believe my daughter entered John in the Fallen Heroes Memorial. A young lady "Laura Dearing" is my daughter. Eerie as it seems, she is now in Iraq. She is 20 years old. She loves our country and what it stands for. I truly appreciate the John Dearing family along with their son! Laura is continuing on for those who are not able to. I have not heard from her in a week. It brings me joy that she has hononed your John in this way!"

"I knew John for a few years growing up in Oscoda when i was dating his best friend David. John was a great friend. Even though it's been almost two years since he left our lives I miss him greatly. The Last thing I remember of John was the dance that him david and i went to in high school. Fun times. I was visiting family when i heard the news and had to pull my car over while i cried becaues it hurt so bad. I still think of him alot. David told me he talked with him before he died and the fact that he mentioned me and said that i was the coolest short person he knew was funny and meant alot. I have moved to another state and got life under control now, but still i wish he were around. my deepest wishes go out to his mother. I will forever be in support of our troops because i know that this country meant alot to John and it means alot to me now. I MISS YOU JOHN-BOY!!"

"I am writing to let you know that tommorrow, June 17th, 2006, there will be a freedom motorcycle run to support all of our fallen heroes from the middle east conflicts. The run leaves the Joliet, Il. racetrack at 10:00 AM and travels to Marseilles, Il. where a several panels of walls have been erected along the river to honor our soldiers who fought for our freedom. Each fallen solier's name has been engraved into the wall where family and friends can come to spend time and remember their loved ones. I am a part of this organization and would love to hear from John's family as I was given a replica of his dog tags when I signed up for the ride. I will be wearing them proudly the entire day and the days to follow. We are anticipating 40,000 bikes this year, to raise money to add any additional names that might be needed to engrave in the wall. If you would like to contact me, my name is: Anita Jenson at 11128 S. Spaulding #2 Chicago, Il. 60655."

"Country Boy Country Boy Country Boy. I could talk about him all day, and not run out of funny stories. We met on the journey here. We shared many a brews, and talked about everything under the sun. I was there that day, on the ground with everyone, scrambling to get the guys out. I'll never forget the emptyness I felt when I only counted 4, not 5 that made it out. You were my best friend, and I'll watch over your family - for as long as I live. Save me a seat with a view man. I'll see you when I get there!"

"To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me
When I am gone, release me, let go.
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears,
be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love,
you can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
but now it's time I traveled on alone.
So grieve a while for me if you must,
then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part,
so keep the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call, and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near.
And if you listen with your heart,
you'll hear all of my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you must come this way,
I'll greet you with a smile, and say,
"WELCOME HOME.
