"Adam,
I never met you. Despite that we shared a lot in common: Our name, a birth month/year, and we were both raised by our grandparents. Today on 08/29/21 on what would have soon been your 36th birthday, I see 13 soldiers who were sadly Killed in Action in Afghanistan as you were. Thinking on these things, I am again humbled again by your sacrifice. You could have chosen a safer path as I did. Yet you made the ultimate sacrifice, so that "Adam Crumplers" like me may continue to live this comfortable and prosperous American Life. Thank you! I will never forget you."

"My name is Eric Elder, fmr Cpl/USMC. I am a proud graduate of Parris Island, plt. 2104 Golf Co. yes Crumps platoon. He was racked beside me through most of boot camp and we talked a great deal day and night about many things both good and bad. I was 23 when I went in and he told me that he looked up to me, and I said Crump. you might need to find a different role model, but he said no "old man" your good to go. I was still active when I heard of Crumplers passing and honestly for a grown man to get up from a chow hall, go to his barracks room and cry, he left a impact on my life. He would say, "i am just not sure about this and I am nervous", I'd laugh and say join the crowd. I knew he would make a fine Marine. There are times in peoples lives where we have ups and downs but most always recover and from what I understand he did and perservered.
"If the Army and the Navy should ever look on Heavens scene, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines!"
Crumpler(Adam) I know that I have not left this message for you sooner but I know you are looking down and you understand that the "old man" here is doing his best. To a friend and comrade You gave the ultimate sacrifice, I will always miss you brother.

"Crump! Oh man. You were such a GREAT guy. i must explain, i met Adam when i moved across the river and started 8th grade at Dupont. "To the family of Adam: I am traveling on business right now and I stayed at a Charleston hotel last night. As I walked in I noticed a memorial on the back window of a Jeep honoring Adam. I am always deeply saddened when a member of our military does not come home. This memorial struck me especially hard as a saw his birthdate. It is the same as mine. I studied some more and realized he was only 19, just shy of 20. I was discharged from Air Force before he was born. I inquired at the front desk and spoke to his friend that owns the Jeep. He told me of Adam and he will be in my heart always. I will celebrate this August 31st in honor of him. Thank you Adam that I can."

"To the friends and family of Adam J. Crumpler,
My name is A.J. Bulman and I'm a student at Tidewater Community College in Va. Beach, VA. Recently, I was given a list of names by english professor and was told to choose a name. I soon would find out that the names on the list were all fallen soldiers and I was assigned to research the person I had chosen and then write about him or her. To be completely honest, I chose Adam because he and I have the same initials. After reading about Adam and all the people who care for him, I have decided to write a tribute paper in his honor. If any friends or family would like to contribute to my paper I would be honored. I want to say thank you to Adam for his sacrifice. To his family, I am sorry for your loss. I am sure that Adam will always be remembered. I can be reached at Abulman4@yahoo.com. Thanks again.

THE FINAL INSPECTION
The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

When KILO company returned and I hugged my brother for what seemed an eternity, I told him that Adam's grandmother was there. He shook his head and continued to tell me about what a good man Adam Crumpler was.
When he was done speaking, I said "Were you and Adam friends?"

"I never thought that this is where I'd settle down.
I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown.
They gave me this plot of land,
Me and some other men, for a job well done.
There's a big White House sits on a hill just up the road.
The man inside, he cried the day they brought me home.
They folded up a flag and told my Mom and Dad:
"We're proud of your son."
And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done.
I can rest in peace;
I'm one of the chosen ones:
I made it to Arlington.
I remember Daddy brought me here when I was eight.
We searched all day to find out where my grand-dad lay.
And when we finally found that cross,
He said: "Son, this is what it cost to keep us free."
Now here I am, a thousand stones away from him.
He recognized me on the first day I came in.
And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels,
And saluted me.
And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done.
I can rest in peace;
I'm one of the chosen ones:
I made it to Arlington.
And everytime I hear twenty-one guns,
I know they brought another hero home to us.
And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done.
We can rest in peace;
'Cause we are the chosen ones:
We made it to Arlington.
Yeah, dust to dust,
Don't cry for us:
We made it to Arlington"

As much as it wont bring you back, the guy who shot you, was shot and killed by me. Adam you did not die on June 18,2005, you just went home early. I will always miss you brother. I love you and I will always remember you. My prayers go out to you and your family. God Bless and R.I.P."

"A week ago we lost our dear nephew, Lance Corporal Dustin Birch in Iraq. In the New Testament there are the parables of the Lost Coin, the Lost Sheep and the Lost Son (the prodigal). I believe these writings were included to bring comfort to those who have lost someone/something in their lives also. To assure all that everything lost - everyone lost, including your Adam - will be found once again. In Luke the Savior tells us that He "came to save that which was lost." May these words bring comfort to you - along with the knowledge that all of our prayers - and gratitude for your family's sacrifice are lasting. “These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we attain too cheaply, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article
as freedom should not be highly rated.”
