"Its taken me some time to realize this site was here. I played football with Charles. And from the first time I watched him at practice, i knew Charles had guts! He refused to stay down after huge hits and he kept coming. I came to respect him so much for that. Especially since most of the other players would have quit when he would not. When I heard that he had been taken I felt rage and did not think that it was true because of the attitude and determination that I seen in him. I was not very close except for during football so I did not attend the funeral. But I did jog through the cemetery and I made it a point to go by his memorial and thank him for his sacrifice every time I went. I would like to thank him again and also thank his family and close friends. Charles will never be forgotten by those he touched."

"Although we never knew Charles, my husband is a police officer for the MTA police dept. in NY and he's in the K-9 unit. All the dogs in the unit are named for fallen officers and soldiers. We chose Carles' name 7 years ago and I called Mr. & Mrs. Cooper to get their permission to use the name. I'm happy to say that our Chaz is one of the best the department has ever had !!"

"Last year, I was visiting my best friend in Jamestown. She lives right across from the cemetery. While driving by I was instantly and overwhelmingly drawn to Charles Memorial. I had to go see it. The next day, my friend took me over. As we drove up close, the song "Lightning Crashes by Live" began to play. I hadn't heard that song since my mother had passed away. My heart was skipping beats. When I approached his grave site, I fell to me knees and began to cry uncontrollably. I didn't even know this man. It was then, I looked at the stone and saw the name. Charles S. Cooper. My mother's maiden name was Cooper. She was born and raised in Panama and Jamestown. I do feel that there is a connection. I think of Charles often. I have his memorial stone as my profile picture on FB for this Memorial Day weekend. I would love for someone to contact me to see if indeed we are related. Thank you Charles, for your ultimate sacrifice. 305.879.1044"

"Charles,
I seen your dad on new years. Down at the VVA :) .. seems to be doing pretty good. Just wanted to say, ill always remember you. Coming into Quality with your dad, that's where we all first met. Then coming to walmart. I cant believe it will be 7 years since you passed. Seems like just yesterday seeing you and your dad and brothers. You know they have your picture up, next to JC down at the club. Every time I go there, I have to go and say hello. I find myself tearing up every time I think about y'all. I joined up summer 2001 . I would have almost 12 years in by now. :( fate stepped in tho. But I just wanted to say thank you. And I miss you. :( there isn't a day that goes by that I haven't had a moment of silence for you, J.C., Aaron .. all of you guys. My grandpa was a seabee in the Navy. He just passed on 12 Nov. .. veterans day. This year. :( I have taken it really hard. Anyway, I miss you bro. Ill give your dad a big hug the next time I see him. NEVER FORGOTTEN."

"Charles,
I want you to know that you were my best friend in Charlie Company. The day you died on patrol was the hardest day of my life. I still am brought to tears every time I think about you. You were the first person I met on Fort Drum. You helped me with my bags as soon as I arrived, and every day from then on, we did almost everything together. You are more than a friend. You are my brother. I mean this in all honesty when I say I wish it were me instead of you. Especially since they switched our platoons before we left. It should have been me in that turret. You had alot more going for you than I did. We will meet again my brother. I promise you that.
To Charle's family, words can not describe the sorrow I feel when I think about that faitful day. I can only imagine how much harder it must have been for all of you. To Charle's father, he used to always talk about getting you a pair of arctic white camoflage so that you can use it while hunting. It was the number one thing he wanted to do, and talked about it daily. He said that it would make you happy. I am not sure if he ever managed to get those for you, but if he did not, I would like nothing more than to make sure that task is completed for him. I am not sure if you get these messages or not, but if you do, my email address is michael.lamkins1@gmail.com I wish you all the best, and once again, I am so terribly sorry about what happened."

I met Charles a few weeks before their deployement he was a great guy and was too young to die. Behind all their courage you could see the fear in the guys eyes who hadn't yet been to Iraq, but you could tell they were ready to take on anything. Charles gave the ultimate sacrifice and God bless him. My condolences go out to his family and friends. He will never be forgoten...RIP"

"Charles,
You are my HERO....I remember moving into the apartment on Eagle Street, you were only 3 years old. You were a child full of mischief, but you were a child full of love. You always had a hello, and that smile... that smile lit up the whole neighborhood. You used to come to my house at 6am and ask if you could shovel....wake me up...but you always did a good job...then you'd come up and say "got any money". Even if I only had a few bucks, it didn't matter, you were still happy. I am so proud of the service and sacrifice you gave to our country. You grew up into a fine young man, not afraid to go and fight for those you loved. I know you are in Heaven watching down over us. The pain we all share over losing you is intense, but you are one of the best and that's why God called you home to be with him. I think of you every day, mostly as that adorable little blonde kid who was quick with a smile..... Steve, I want you to know that Charles was a Hero in so many ways. Not only serving his country, but just as a person. He will forever be remembered, and will always be loved. The pain you feel right now will never go away, but everyday it will lessen. Charles was brought to you to make a difference in this world, the same reason he was taken from you. My prayers and thoughts are with you. God Bless.
Love,
