"Hey cousin. Its been over ten years now and I still think about you. I never got to meet you but I have heard a lot about you and the people that did know you were among the luckiest people alive. I know you were a great , loving, compassionate friend, father, husband, son, man, and soldier. That's what makes you my hero. I will never forget what you did , how you gave everything protecting people who could not protect them self's. I am reminded of you every time I see a flag, a star, a soldier, and the memories tattoo i got on my arm after I had found out. I know you and every other fallen soldier are looking down on not only this country but also the world and protecting the people who need your protection. You will not be forgotten but you will be missed. I love you cousin and thanks to not only you but also to Tina and your two sons for sacrificing so much. PS. TINA. I am blessed to know John's parents here in Bullhead City and I can only imagine that based on the great people they are, John must have been one hell of a young man. I am a wreck about all this, thinking about everything. It came out of no where, but you should know that I think about you and your family often. I should be there, I wish I could be. I will never forget you, and while I don't talk about it much, when I do I am as I am now. I wish you were still among us. Thank you for your sacrifice."

"Cpl. Cline was not only my brother in arms but my friend. I loved him with all my heart. We were in boot camp, SOI, and the fleet together and I miss him every day I'm still alive. I have never known a man as good as him. He was a kind and humble man who could always make you laugh. Tomorrow marks the 8 year anniversary of the Naz and we ALL will be remembering him and thanking him for what he did. I lie awake at night and cry and wish that it could have been me and not him. I am anxious for the day when I get to meet back up with him in Heaven.

"I wasn't able to meet John. I was there for the horrifying aftermath of a devistated family. Evelyn, how dare you. You should be ashamed of yourself, and I hope when you look in the mirror and fall alseep at night you think of that very empty spot in your chest where a heart should be. John, was a warrior for this country. He LOVED his family. Your picture isn't to be seen, but I will tell YOU right now....you are the most hidious, ugly, unattractive, stomach turning individual I will EVER meet. I promise. Rot in your tiny, pathetic life...and may you be haunted with every soldier, with every individual, and WITH EVERY PERSON YOU LOVE. John was beautiful, his family, his life...BEAUTIFUL. Your life...pathetic. Now go cry, and pray that someday you might have love like he had. I love you Tina, Dylan, and Dakota. I am with you always."

"My name is Josie, and I used to live at Camp Lejeune, Nc. I meet Mrs. Cline, Tina, one night when she visited my neighbor, Jody. She had a memorial video of her husband and used my computer to play it at a memorial service for him. I have thought about her and that night all three of us were talking for years. My husband and my neighbor's husband were in Iraq at the time and I remembered how strong Tina was and I prayed I would be that strong if this were to happen to my family. I know you probably son't remember me but I wanted to let you know I do think about you and your husband, and that I am just one more person out here keeping our service members memories alive.

When he went missing I wore his MIA bracelet and downloaded a picture of him holding his two boys so that I had a face to go with his name so I could see it in my mind when I prayed for his safe return. I'm so very sorry that he never made it home. I still have the bracelet and I still think of him whenever I see it. My boy is also a Marine and due to deploy to Afghanistan soon and while I pray he displays the same courage under fire as John, I pray with all my heart and soul that he not be forced to make the same sacrifice. God bless you Tina, Dakota, Dylan, Cindy, and the rest of your family."

"Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard Him call.
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay that day,
to laugh, to love, to work or play.
Task undone must stay that way.
I found peace at the close of the day.
If my parting left a void,
then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with time of sorrow.
I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved one touched.
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief,
but don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me.
God wanted me now, He set me free!"

"There will be an art exibit of portraits in an art show named "Faces of the Fallen - To Never Forget" at the College of Marin in Kentfield, CA. The show opens Nov 22 and the reception will be December 2nd from 5-8pm Students and faculty have participated in a project spearheaded by Chester Arnold. I am an artist as well and am secretary to the Art Department here at College of Marin. These portraits are done from the thumbnail photos posted in the NY Times. Chester gave me one of the little photos and that is how I came to know Donald Cline Jr. I came to know his face intimately and cried alot while drawing his face. He had the most amazing eyes. My heart aches and I feel so close to him. He is one of our angels now and I just know he will watch over his family. If you would like to have the portrait, I would be happy to send it to you. You can contact me by email at the College of Marin.
I offer my condolences and my prayers to all of Donald's loved ones."

"Baby cousin,
Well, we just celebrated what would have been your 23rd birthday. I was in school, but Sandra called me and we sang happy birthday to you at the top of our lungs. It hasn't gotten any easier after 20 months of you being gone. Our lives, our world, is just not the same without you. We miss you so much John. We will never forget and will always keep you close in our hearts and in everything we do. Joseph and Madison do school projects about you whenever they have the opportunity. I love you baby boy and miss you so bad. I pray every night that you'll come to my dreams so that I could see your beautiful face. 11/4/04.
Love forever."

"To the family of LCPL Cline,
No words can express the sorrow felt to lose another brother so far away. And never will he be forgotten by us all that knew how great of a person he was. I'll never forget the times I spent with him myself. We both worked at Port of Subs in Sparks while in high school. He was always very friendly, almost to the point you wanted to pull your hair out! But that's what made him great. I'll never forget hanging out at midnight in the Alamo for midnight breakfest specials with him, just having a good time. I don't know how it's going to feel when I return home myself from Iraq without him there. I'll also never forget the last day I saw him, at the rodeo with the Marines and their pullup bar. I was with my girlfriend now wife on the last day before I shipped off for the Army. We both were extactic aboout serving for our country and wished each other luck. And with that, went our seperate ways. Looking back I wish I could have stopped him, but I know deep down there was no stopping his devotion to country, as with me. As I see it, John hasn't left the walking path of life, he's simply waiting at the end of it for the rest of us with that same smile on his face. So with this I leave you the fragment of time I got to spend with a good friend, a fellow serviceman, a fallen hero, a Patriot."
SGT Christopher Luthi of Sparks Nevada currently serving in the Army's 1st Stryker Brigade, Mosul Iraq.
"My Dearest John,
It is now 15 months that you have been gone and it seems like yesterday. You have touched our lives in so many ways. The missing you doesn't get any less and never will. I wished this was all just a bad dream and we would just wake up and have things back to normal. I miss your smile and that unforgetable laugh, Coming home and finding dented soup cans that you and Cory loved to use to see who had the stronger head. John, from the look of the cans I would say it was a tie. :)I could go on forever naming the things I miss about you sweetie but when you add it all up I simply miss you John,my Son Inlaw and seeing you with my daughter and two beautiful Grandchildren and all being the loving family that you were."
Tamme (Mother Inlaw) of Sparks, NV.
