"Spc Carballo was in my Ammo section at the Hood. He was a great go to guy and he is sorely missed everyday.

What is freedom? Ask a soldier.

What is freedom?
Is freedom going to school where you want?
Is freedom wearing what you want?
Is freedom eating what you want?
Or is freedom deeper than that?

What is freedom?
Is freedom praying how you want?
Is freedom choosing who you marry?
Is freedom being able to speak your mind?
Or is it deeper still?

What is freedom?
Is freedom crying over daddy gone to war again?
Is freedom choosing to fight hand in hand for your freedom?
Is freedom writing your blood type on your boots, just in case?
Do any of us know?

Or should we ask a soldier?
Do we know what its like to see a friend shot in combat?
Or should we ask a soldier?
Do we know what it’s like not to know if you’ll ever see your family again?
Or should we ask a soldier?

Do we know what freedom is?
Will we ever truly know?
Or will we continue to put a price on freedom?"

"I can't believe that it's been this long already. It seems like yesterday that Adolfo was a new Private in the Battery, right before I to another unit. RIP Carballo, I think of you Brad, Marshall, CPT. Inman, Battles, and all the others we've lost daily."
Ty Nicholson (SGT. A Btry 1-21 FA/ HHC 1CD G3 2001-2005) of Panama City Beach, FL

"I was a platoon mate of Adolfo when we were in Iraq, I actually spent an entire day with him when we were on a detail while we were still in Kuwait, he worked hard all day and on our breaks we had some fun conversations, he was a great soldier and someone you could always count on, the news of his death hit me hard when the BC told us, it brought the reality of war to all of us that day, we wrote his name, along with Kritzer's and Marshall's on our Kevlar helmet bands so that they were with us every day of the rest of our deployment. I honor him, Marshall, Kritzer, and Battles every Memorial Day with a visit to the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery where their names and pictures are on the Iraq & Afghanistan Memorial, I still have to fight back the tears every time I see it, they were all great guys and may they all rest in peace.

"Army Spc. ADOLFO CARBALLO:

Only the dead have seen the end of war. ~Plato

Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, War. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out... and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel.... And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for "the universal brotherhood of man" - with his mouth. ~Mark Twain"

Hello,
I represent PRAYER SHAWLS 4 FALLEN SOLDIERS (PS4FS), an organization that since October 2007 has sent over 2,800 prayer shawls to military families who have lost a loved one. We are an organization of over 240 groups from all over the country. We make every effort to reach families even when post cards are returned after they have moved. Would you kindly send me a contact email/address so that we may send a loving hand-made prayer shawl to the family? Thank you!

"Hey bro, this is Jason. I hope you are smiling where you are at it isn't the same without you in our lives, but we keep staying strong for and with you! I have a hard time at work sometimes. I know that it will be all right though, because nothing is forever and I am doing the right things! I look for people who I can relate to, people who have morals, and have a purpose in life.
I wish there were more people like that , like you that is. It sounds cheesy, put I looked up to you. You were and still are the type of person I have always tried to be like. I can only pray that God might grant me the patience to be as spirited and light-hearted as you brother! Thanks for giving me peace of mind of finding hope in this world and life!"

"To Beatriz and the Carballo Family,
My name is SGT Javier Fernandez. I don't know how to begin. I proudly served with your husband and son. I was his first roommate in Fort Hood when he graduated from AIT in Fort Sill. He was an over-achiever and always talked about his family in Houston and his experiences in the drill team. A day would never go by when I wasn't reminded of all his achievements when he was in Reagan's H.S. JROTC. He proudly hung his Class B uniform with all his awards and badges practically covering the top half of his uniform. He loved his family so much. Every opportunity he had to visit his family in Houston he would. Every weekend (being plane, train, or automobile) he would be in Houston. I remember the day he married Beatriz. I didn't even have to see the ring on the finger to know that this guy, overwhelmed by the smile on his face, was a newlywed.
Carballo was a very hard worker and a true Soldier. In the weeks prior to our deployment, we would have field exercises that would last for a month straight. One particular exercise that I remember, we were doing dismounted patrol in an open field and we were being simulated attacked by a sniper. The first fire team was pinned down by the sniper, and my team was to flank the sniper's position. So I tell Carballo (keep in mind he was carrying a M249 SAW), that we need to tactically move to the right about 50 meters and go and take this sniper out. Well, without hesitation, Carballo went...and went...and went. 50 meters ended up being about 300 meters. We were successful in accomplishing our mission that day, but just a little bit more tired and sweaty more than I would have liked. From that day forward, I knew that I had a great Soldier.
April 10, 2007- I remember that day like if it was yesterday. It goes through my head every single day like if someone is pressing rewind. We were in the same patrol that night. That night SPC Adolfo C. Carballo, saved 3 other Soldiers lives. I miss him everyday and I can't even begin to imagine how much his wife and family miss him. My condolences to all his loved ones. I will never forget him. Please contact me if you ever just want to have a talk about Adolfo. Here is my email address: javier.fernandez2@us.army.mil"

"bella horrida bella

"Hey cheesefoot! Remember when Sgm called you that? Remember when we were the only freshmans on the team to make varsity? Remeber the pivot? Remember when we used to spend long hours and many lunch breaks practicing our drill and getting better? Remember when we used to wrestle and fight? Remember when I used to spend the night over your house? Remember our long saturdays getting ready for competiton and I remember the time you couldnt compete..you was so sad and I was sad for you...I performed my hardest in honor of you not being there. I remember lots of things over these past years since you died..and makes me think how much I miss you man..theres lots of memories that we all shared and I will NEVER take them for granted. Did you know that I got a tattoo for you? what it says ..It has our signature emblem, The Crossed Rifles and underneath is the words RIP AC..I was planning on gettting Reagn Rifles for life underneath but Im a poor college Student lol...but in time ill get it done..but the reason why i got it is because you were like a brother to me and I wanted to never forget you..to me that is a constant reminder because of the relationship that we all shared...haven't talked to some people in a while..its ok though...i know they have moved on and thats what they should do..I hate that it took me so long to write you but I coud never find the words to tell you how much I missed you...i hate remembering these things too because then i remember that you are not with us anymore...

"To the family of Adolfo my deepest condolences for the lost of a hero a great man that was taken to soon. A quilt is being sent to you I just hope it is the right address I have for we wanted you to know that we have not forgotten you nor your Adolfo. A hero is something that goes out of his way to protect those he loves well you Adolfo is one of those. He extended himself to love his family and country something not many would do. Our country is great but only because of man like you Adolfo that unselfishly care for others before himself. That is a hero that is Adolfo. He is now walking with the Lord and watching over all of us again but this time in a better place. May the Lord give you strength to carry on and continue to do what you must to survive. If you know of others that have lost a love one please have them contact me so I can make sure and send them a quilt.
