"There are many days that go by where I think of Matthew. I remember when he first came to our unit at the 1st and 29th Infantry Regiment, Alpha Company. I thought he was the weirdest, goofy, and obnoxious kid I ever seen. He was my roommate for about 6 months. Matthew was a good kid and he was weird to me because he was beyond intelligent. I admired that about him and to this day, I wish I could see him once again. Things are tough knowing that the ones you grew close to perished fighting for a cause that a lot of people don't realize is what keeps them safe at night. I wish the family the best and I just want to say thank you for having a son that could rub off on me like Matthew did."

"I think of Mathew often. I am the one that anounced that SGT Bohling is no longer with us at his sevice memorial in Iraq September 10, 2005. I will remember it well it was my birthday and he was a good friend and soldier. I think about the conversations me and Mathew had. He talked about his family often and when he was down it was because he missed them. I live day to day with a promise that I could not keep. As we were preparing to deploy we made a pact that we would keep each other safe and bring each other home.Mathew was removed from my sqaud and shortly after he was taken from us. I know that he touched many lives and appriciated life and what it had to offer. I often said he was not understood because he believed that he owed everyone around him joy and a momnet to speak and to be heard. He hung out in places that gus his age ccould not understand. He loved the VFW and talking to the veterans and he asked me several times to accompany him to functions. The freinds he had made there he loved very much and they cared very much for him. I could count on Mathew for anything. I only had to ask and with out a Why he would accomplish his mission with pride. I talk to him time to time and I always come to the same conclusion sometimes the great ones are taken way to early. I want to formaly take the time to say I am truely sorry for the loss of your son and want you to know he loved you very much and knew without doubt the love you held for him. It has taken me this many years to come forward because I have had to deal with his death in my own way. I am the one that turned in to have his Remeber me braclets made. I wear it in memory with pride. We shall never for get. texassfc@yahoo.com"

"I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry. I understand in theory only that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take the families pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. All my love and respect. ogersteiner@yahoo.com"

Bohling I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for what happened to you, it was my mission and I carry the guilt of knowing that everyday, they wanted to give me a bronze star for that day, I don't know why. My "eulogy" is a source of shame for me to this day, I've explained at length where my head was that night and I know it to be true but I don't know if I'll ever stop feeling stupid for it. For what it's worth the way that you carried yourself made such an impression on me and what gave me the impetus to change. I'm just so sorry."

"Rest in peace Soldier, I had a great talk with you in Kuwait while you were on your way to the states for R&R. It broke my heart when I read in the Army times that you had fallen, It hurts. You were one of my best Soldiers in FT. Benning and that's why I took my time in Kuwait to talk to you and I was very happy for you on your success. I was hopping that the next time I saw you, you would be rocking your sergeant stripes. God bless you and you loving family!"

"There are certain people that come to my thoughts and prayers quite regularly-its something that just happens, but it happens for a reason. Matt, you made a huge difference in the lives of so many and I want to Thank you for that. We went to church together and even to school but didn't hang out in the same crowd. I remember the first day I ever met you, it was at evening church (youth group); we were upstairs and you walked into the classroom and from the get-go had a bright smile and such a cheery attitude. You loved to sing. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY."

"I had the pleasure of knowing Matt personnaly. He dated my sister for 2years, and during that time he became like a big brother to me. He made sure I was always alright and would do everything to make sure he can make things right. Even when he was deployed he had a way of making sure everything was going smoothly at home. I had the pleasure of going to church with him one time just cause he attended my church one day. Just to see Matt being that involved in God just put the biggest smile on my face. I know he is in a better place right now. I remember when he broke his leg and he had to stay with my family during most of that time. It was great to have him there. I miss you Matt. I know you are looking down right now! I love you dearly, and can't wait to see you again at the pearly gates!"

"Matt, we will forever miss you. I'll never forget the memories we've shared. You once told me; "follow your dreams. i did. if you want this bad enough, you'll get it. when you do, i'll be right there to congratulate you". it's just too bad that i can't get what i want in this case. but you know what, i'm glad someone who i looked up to (you), helped me learn that you have to try in order to succeed. i will always and forever miss you. thank you SO much for not only what you've done for this country, but for me in the past 4 years!! you were the best friend anyone could've ever asked for!! oh yeah...remember what you said the night before you left, too. i'll see you again someday. and when we're reunited, it'll be the best. may you rest in eternal peace.

"I would like to send my condolences to the Bohling family. I am a soldier with the 1st Battalion, 29th Infantry Regiment stationed at Fort Benning, GA. I remember when, the now SGT. Bohling, first came to our battalion as his first duty assignment. I also remember when he volunteered and went to Iraq in support of the first phases of Operation Iraqi Freedom. And I was assigned as one of our Operations NCOs as I helped in his transition to Kelly Hill (3rd BATT) to join their unit. He was a good soldier and a very hard worker. He loved his country and his job. It saddens me to hear of his loss. Know that his fellow soldiers and friends mourn his passing and give our support and condolences to his family. May he find eternal peace and happiness."
