"I was a teacher at Mid-Valley CDS IN 2002-2003. During that period of time, I had the privilege of working with Eric. He was a just a wonderful young man, who's only wish was to join the U.S. Marine Corps. Just days before he left for Iraq, he visited both myself and my co-teacher, Bea Echaveste at New Directions School, just across the street from Mid Valley. We asked him to be careful and to please, not to try to be a hero. But that was not in his nature. He was a natural leader and incredibly brave. I just can't believe it's been ten years since he gave his life for the country he so dearly loved. I think of him often; most certainly, every April 9th. May GOD always bless him and keep him, as well as his wonderful and loving family."

"Damn brother, it seems like it was just the other day when you, Molis and I were living it up in San Diego. I love you brother and will never forget you. R.I.P. and Semper Fi"

"April 2008
Lance Corporal Eric A. Ayon, USMC

We happened upon your memorial in Glendale a few weeks ago. A young lady was laying flowers and we asked if she was your sister. She replied: "I am his wife." It didn't hit us until an hour later: She said, "I AM his wife."

Love like that is Eternal.

I know you are proud of her, and I honor your love.

"October 23, 2008

Eric,
aahhh! where can I start. I know you can see me, hear me & feel me. So, you know what's going on with me missing you. Besides, it's just for now... I will see you one day.

I was just going thru some of our pictures and found the ones we took when you came to my mom's house all dressed-up with your uniform and Steve took some pictures with you and Josh (by the way... he's awesome, I'll call him tomorrow to see how's he doing). I remember us playing monopoly that day with Carlos & Gabriel, and how you wouldn't trust me with my monopoly deals to you. That's cool... we'll play again soon.

Now that these holidays are coming, I think of what a great time we shared. I remember you and Angie hooking me up with a place to sleep for a while. What are cousins for! by the way... thanks again for letting me borrow your 2Pac cd's.

I'll be back in Glendale hopefully within 2 to 3 months so... I'll try to ball-it-up like you use to. Since you swore that you had Kobe's moves. I think yours were better.

I will check in with you from time to time, but for now I'll just say "till next time Bro"... I love you forever.

Your cousin"

I did not know Eric but feel that somehow we're related. The Ayon family is fairly small. People like Eric make this country what it is today and shape the future for the rest of us. "This Sunday Oct 23, 2005 will be 23 years when My Marine recon team was part of Graneda Invasion. I proudly say to Eric's family, he may have fallen. But to this old Marine he will never be forgotten. I stop by his grave and place little American flag and speak words to him. I let him know that he do his country, Corps and family Honor.
Many young men died 23 years ago on a little Island, but like Eric it was for country. Not for dollars, not to make the news or fame. For love of Country.
God Bless Eric and all my fallen brothers and sisters. Semper Fi Eric."
ROBERT JUAREZ of BURBANK, CA USA

"My name is Mark Crowley
On April 6,2004
My eighteen year old son LCPL Kyle Crowley was killed in Ramadi Iraq, along with eleven other marines and one Navy Corpsman, from what I understand from reports of those who servived that day under this ambush, Eric was riding in my Sons Humvee, and was the only one who was able to jump out and lay down serpressive fire and helped others put down these insurgents, who had killed his comrades and friends, The picture of Eric behind the peppered windshield of a humvee is where my son Kyle was at the time of this attack,Eric is a symbol of great courage and Honor among those who have Fallen in the name of Freedom, and like so many in my heart and mind He will never be forgotten for his sacrifice and courage as a USMC American who gave all to his country,

To Erics family Thankyou for raising a great young man and Thankyou for your sacrifice as well,There is no greater pain then the loss of our children to War,

We those of us who are now called Gold Star Parents and familys, have lost the greatest gift God has given us, Nothing smells the same our taste the same anymore, our will it ever, but our Lives do go on, untill the Day we are called will we be united again,

"Hi Love,

It has been hard for me & Josh, and I know we have everyone's support. But sometimes that's not enough. Everyday I look into our son's eyes, it reminds me of when you looked into my eyes. It's actually funny to me how, Gordito came out to be exactly like you, eating cereal right before bed, the way he walks, and all his facial expressions are exactly like yours. I tell people I did not loose my husband, he lives on through our son, but for Josh you can't ever be replaced.

There are times when I could calm him down; but then there are times when I am so lost, and I can't find the words to comfort him or myself. All he and I have now is each other, and all the meaningful & sacred times we shared with you. Our son loves to hear of how we met, how we fell in love, how we shared our vows, and of course how we had him, and raised him.

WIWI, there is not a day that goes by that Josh and I don't think of you, you will forever be in our thoughts, in our hearts, and in our prayers!

Some days it feels like it gets harder, and some days it feels like it gets easier. I guess, it is hard for anyone to understand the pain a wife and a child go through. When they have not experienced it themselves. The obstacles and challenges that GOD has put in front of us seem at times too hard to overcome. But with the strength YOU give me I know I can succeed.

Wiwi, I will always remind our son of what a wonderful father, husband, and marine you were. And he will never forget you. We spent the most memorable moments together as a family. The birth of our child, the family KLISS (not miss spelled) that Josh will never let me forget, and of course the time we spent together before you got deployed.

The the Family of Eric Ayon;
I did not know Eric, but saw the picture in the paper of him retrieving a vehicle 3 days before he was killed. I was so taken with the look in his eyes, I saved that photo on my computer desk top and several times per week, I open it and say a little prayer for him. My son, Lcpl Joshua Doyle, was critically injured in July 2003, he also has a print out of Eric in his room. Just know that even strangers feel your loss. Eric is truly a hero! Last year, around these days a whole lot of us found ourselves lost, flooded with questions, and no answers. We only knew that we would never see you again. Never share a laugh, a hug, a memory with you. The price you paid, to fulfill your main purpose in life; to make this world a better place. The day you were born, made the world a better place. For those who knew you well and knew of your dreams, must say that they believe in Destiny. Remembering back on one of the many heart-to-heart conversations we had, you and I both know that this was your Destiny. You felt it, and you weren't afraid to show it. That didn't stop you from joining the Corps. It inspired you, motivated you. It ran through your veins, and there was no way anyone would change your mind. You had the courage that many of us lack. Your family, friends, your son, and even those who did not have the honor of knowing you will be better people because of you. You always pushed me to be a better person, a better mother, a better daughter, a better sister. Before I took great effort to do this, know I think of you and it comes natural. Eric, I can't thank you enough for it all. A year later, and I stand here proud. You've always been my angel. Now you are home, God decided that your work on earth was complete. Now heaven is a better place because of you. Today I learned the meaning of a new word "AGAPE" : it means love in Greek. Not love as in boy meets girl love or homie love, but real love. The kind of love that God had for mankind when he gave his life for us on the cross. What kind of man would do such a thing? Only one like yourself. You gave your life in exchange for the happiness of others. I will always be true and forever faithful to your memory. I hold our life accomplishments, goals, laughs and tears close to my heart. You have showed me the true meaning of the word SEMPER FIDELIS. This will always describe your commitment to those you left behind. I wait patiently for the day that we see each other again, in a better world.

Eric,
It’s hard for me to truly understand the impact you left on all the lives that you touched. When I met your sister, you were already stationed across the sea, so I was never able to meet you. However, your family has done a wonderful job in sharing your legacy with me. I want you to be aware of the love I have for your sister, and the promises I will keep for her. I want to forever be the “man of her dreams”. And I can only hope that you would give me your blessings, as your ENTIRE family has given to me so far. I thank all of you for that. So Eric, my future brother-in-law, rest easy in knowing I will always be there for Cyn. You & I will meet someday. :)

"There are no words to describe on what we go through everyday without Eric by our side, but the memories of him within ourselves gets us through.

Honey, you left us with a little you in us. It didn’t matter if we were family, your childhood past, your high school history or your future ambition.
Anyone who crossed your path was well aware of your character, your loving ways and your heroism.
--And for those who didn’t know Eric at all, those who talk or read of him, you felt as if you did.

For the past two years, I’ve become part of your life to know how loving, devoted and most of all strong – minded you were in what you do. And for many, you became an inspirational leader to those who needed advice or just someone to talk to. You’ve opened people’s eyes to those in need to know from right and wrong and we hoped for the best they took your advice.

Months have passed and it’s been hard for me without you, but I manage with the help of your family and our friends, together, we stay strong.

Our memories shared together, the kids, our families, and our vows to each other will always be with me.
--And that will always be sacred."

"To The Family of Eric Ayon, I offer my sincere condolences for the lost of your son and brother. I am a 10 yr USAF Special Operations Veteran who spent 36 of those months on a Joint NATO Task Force during the first gulf war. I just read about Echo Company in the Philadelphia Daily News. Everyday I feel the lost of a commrade in arms to this terrible war in Iraq. I have read about each and everyone of Eric's brother Marines who were ambushed that terrible day.

To Mrs. Angie Ayon, Josh and The Ayon Family,

My husband, Chris Gutierrez first met Eric in boot camp and quickly they became inseparable.

My husband is now serving in Iraq and is glad to have the chance to be a part of what Eric started.

My husband prays that one day he will see Eric again and takes satisfaction in serving in Eric's memory.

To his wife Angie, Chris talked about the many times Eric missed you and waited for graduation day to see his wife again after such a long separation in boot camp. We knew you and Josh were the loves of his life from the great excitement and anticipation he had in seeing you (while Erica and Chris ate their long awaited Big Macs and rice crispy treats).

Eric was a truely dedicated marine, husband, and father. May God Bless his family and give them strength.
Eric will forever be in our hearts and prayers.

Proud Marine Wife,
K Gutierrez (Chino, CA )"

To Eric's family and to Angie -

I was very touched to read about Echo Company's brave service in Iraq and deeply saddened to read about Eric's death. He is a hero who gave his life protecting his fellow Marines.

I will keep Eric and your family in my prayers. I only hope that time will help to somewhat ease the pain and burden of your loss, and that the good memories of Eric will come to be much stronger than the pain of his loss.

God bless each of you.

Don't grieve for me now for I am free. I'm following the path GOD laid for me. I took HIS hand when I heard his call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I've found that peace, at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void, thein fill it with....remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah,yes these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with time of sorrow. I wish you sunshine for tomorrow. My life's been full, I've shared much. Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch, an extroadinary family....My wonderful wife and son.... Perhaps my time seemed much to brief, Don't lengthen it with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and share with me.
God wanted me now.... He has set me free......

I'ts been six month's now since the loss of our hero. I feel the pain as if it were moments ago that I learned about Eric's tragic death. You can't compare my pain to what his parents or his sisters. Especially not to what Angie & Josh are going through. Eric's great strength and courage obviously rubbed on his wife and son. I ask Eric everyday to give me the strength that he gives these two. I know Eric and the last thing he would want is for us to dwell on his parting. Angie, thanks for allowing Vanessa and I to be a part of Joshua's life. Eric and I shared a promise together that we would always be there for each other. Now I give this promise to you and Josh.
