"I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry. I understand in theory only that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take the families pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. All my love and respect. ogersteiner@yahoo.com

A hundred times a day, I remind myself that my inner and outer life depends on the labors of other men, living and dead, and I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am receiving. - Albert Einstein"

"I'm sorry this message is a little late, but It took me a while to be able to look at all my fallen soldiers and friends. Shaun and I met in Germany a few times, He was in Hanau, and I was in Baumholder. We worked together as well in baghdad, Iraq. I remember shaun as being an honest soft spoken friend, whom was trust worthy and brought a positive attitude wherever he went. It really hurts when you see someone like him taken away from this world. God bless you and may your prayers be heard. My deepest condolences go out to you.

"Today is June 14, 2005, my son Drin's first birthday. This morning I was compelled to take a look at the casualty list for the first time, and I found Shawn's name. Suddenly I was struck that on the beautiful morning that I gave life to my dear son, someone else's son's life was lost. I do not know Shawn, except that somehow I feel I share something precious with his mother. It is said that a mother's love is like an emotional wound so raw, it leaves you vulnerable forever. I believe that is true, because I love my son so much, my heart is broken.

Shawn will now be in our hearts and prayers. When I tell my son of this great country, I will tell him of Shawn, a 20 year old hero who went to Heaven on the day my son came to life. When I pray each night that God will send His holy angels to protect my son, I will know that God already sent Shawn to protect all of us, and now Shawn will be our special angel.

My love to Shawn and Shawn's family. May you find peace."

"Shawn died on the day my son was born. As an Air Force dependent my entire life (first as a daughter and now as a wife) I plan on honoring Shawn and keeping him in my heart, memories, and prayers by celebrating each milestone of my child's life in memory of Shawn.
To Shawn's parents...my son Nathan will know that he was born as God brought another of his angels home and the world was given my Nathan. I can only hope that my son will one day grow up to be everything Shawn was and meant to you. That he touch as many people as Shawn did and has as much honor as Shawn.

When I hold my Nathan I will be thinking of your Shawn. As I watch him grow, in his eyes I will see your Shawn.
Know that Shawn Atkins will never be forgotten by a stranger. Because in his death he touched my life and made me thankful for the greatest gift in my life....Nathan Mills Thank you for raising a fine son and his sacrifice for us all."
