"The soldiers do not speak. Nevertheless, they are heard in the still houses: who has not heard them? They have a silence that speaks for them at night and when the clock counts. They say: We are young. We have died. Remember us. They say: We have done what we could but until it is finished it is not done. They say: We have given our lives but until it is finished no one can know what our lives gave. They say: Our deaths are not ours: they are yours they will mean what you make them. They say: Weather our lives and our deaths are for peace and a new hope or for nothing we cannot say: it is you who must say this. They say: We leave you our deaths. Give them their meaning. We were young. they say. We have died. Remember us:"

"Wally, was one of the finest men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing in my life. I met him his first day in the fleet and new he was a special man that very day. A natural born leader and hero. I watched Wally rise through the ranks faster than most marines quickly becoming a team leader eventually a squad leader and a Meritorious Cpl. I watched his father pin that rank on him the day we returned from our deployment to Afghanistan. It was a beautiful thing and he was the best of best and the true vision of what people should think of when they think of the term U.S. Marine."

"I did not know the youngest Norman, however I know his Granddad Norman Anderson I, and his father Norman Anderson II. Marine Lance Cpl. Norman W. Anderson III is a true hero. I could not express the sorrow my family feels for the Andersons nor can I express in words the gratitude for him and all the fallen in this great conflict. I know these words of Abraham Lincoln have been used many times before but it is so befitting.
“We pray that our heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the alter of freedom."

"Norman's sacrifice will help stem the spread of terrorism. The Marines and other Military Service people in Afghanistan and Iraq, are the wall that protects us from similar attacks in the United States. Norman walked that wall with honor and distinction. "To The Family Of Lcpl Anderson,
My Name is HM3 Cody West. I served with Norman in Afghanistan, 2004. We spent alot of time together up on the OP's talking. He helped me to become a better Doc. He was the one that gave me two nicknames that have stayed with me to this day..."Gunny West" and "Doc Highway".
Victoria, I'm sure that you know the caliber man that you married. There have been few men that I have called "brother" Norman was my brother. There is no way for me to compare the pain in my heart, to that which you must feel, but I can try. Please know that Norman died doing what he loved. He loved being a Marine. In fact, the only thing he loved more than the Marines, was you. Please accept my deepest sympathies. Feel free to contact me if you wish.

"My son Gunnery Sgt. Ronald E. Baum was killed in Al Anbar Province May 3rd 2004. His brother Staff Sgt. Brian Baum was stationed 30 miles away..he escorted his brother home.
As the mother of these two brave boys, I have been blessed. We were a single mom family in the70's and I always wondered if they were happy..unbelievable through all this sorrow and pain ..my son Ron..through the messages that will come on this web site. I have learned so much about who he was as a Marine, as a man..and how happy he was. And as his mother I am so grateful to God for his life.
My sincere sympathy at the loss of your beloved son Norman. Remember that they lived through more than we could ever imagine..and for them each day we must live for them..for that is what they would want of us. A big order right now...but you can do it. God's strength and grace shall sustain you.
God bless you all.

"To the family of LCPL Anderson, let me just try to tell you how much your son's and husband's sacrifice means to me and my family. I am grateful to him and you because you raised and sent the finest son of Maryland to the finest outfit that could possibly stand ready and willing to take the fight to those that would attack us civilians at home if given the chance to do so. I will always be grateful to your family for raising a son like Norman who volunteered to defend all of us civilians by joining the Marine Corps. I will always look upon my children and know that their well being is not by chance, but because of Norman and the brothers he left behind in 3/6 who live their lives by going into harm's way to keep us out of harm's way here at home. Norman's volunteer service allowed all of us civilians the opportunity to remain civilians in our comforts of home to raise our small children to be free of worry, danger, or hardships. I will teach my children to be grateful to Norman and your family, and to hold you all dear in our hearts and live by the example Norman set for all of us by being an infantry Marine who gave the ultimate gift to all of us, his life in service of the people of the US and the people of Iraq.
Please take comfort in knowing that Norman is surely in a better place, and has joined the ranks of an elite fraternity of past heroes that are the Marines and other service men and women who have given their lives for the rest of us in the US by always standing ready to defend us. I am sure the past, present and future Marines of 3/6 will never let his memory fade, nor let his sacrifice be in vain."
