"As the first Hmong-American 1SG in the US Military, I have and will continue to make sure SPC Thai Vue, SPC Qixing Lee, and PFC Kham See Xiong sacrifices will not be forgotten. Their names will be read and remember again this year during Memorial Day (Wisconsin) as have in the last 8 years or so.

Note: Even though PFC Kham See Xiong was not KIA, he was on his way to combat and prepare to give his life. He was killed at Fort Hood, TX, 5 Nov 2009 during a deployment preparation.

To the best of my knowledge, there are only two Hmong-American Service Members that were KIA (SPC Thai Vue and SPC Qixing Lee)."
Shua P. Yang, US Army Retired of Wisconsin

"I've only known SPC Vue only for a short time before they deployed. But the one thing I would not forget was when he told me in the barracks hallway, " I'm glad I'm not the only Asian around here anymore." RIP SPC Vue. Gone but not Forgotten. "Speed and Power""

"Dear Vue Family, I just wanted to share w/ you all....This past Veterans day, I shared w/ our four year old son how he got his name....Thai :) He now knows he's named after Daddy's best friend who was a true hero :) So when you ask him, who were you named after? he says "Daddy's best friend. He didn't get to come home from the war b/c the bad guys got him." "His mom was very sad and when I was made from God you and daddy named me Thai to remember him and that made his mommy happy again" :)You will always be apart of our family. Our Thai carry's his name proudly and will forever carry his story w/ him. May God bless you all. Love, The Bush Family"

"SPC Vue, Thai! Words can not express my feelings about finding out today that you were the first Hmong soldier to have given up your life for our mission. As one of your own comrade, I thank you for carrying on the mission so that I could come behind you and finish it. You did a job well done, and I know how much pride you had to wear your uniform as it was for me. You will never be forgotten my brother! To Thai's family, thank you for your support of his calling even when it was hard to see him go. We are all indebted to you all."
SPC Vang, M of Fresno, CA

"Today has been a very hard day for me yet again. every year gets tougher and tougher instead of the opposite. It's like a clock that is set to this day every year that I go back to Falcon to the memories. To my 127th family to Thai Vue's goofy smile and mischevious antics that held the squad together. Rest in Peace Thai and I pray that the ones you left behind find their peace too."
SSG Elizabeth Philpott of FT Riley, Kansas

"I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry. I understand in theory only that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take the families pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. All my love and respect. ogersteiner@yahoo.com

"“Every man dies not every man really lives.”
For like your fathers before you, in glory did they give
Their last breath to defend the air that we so freely gasp
Their life so that we may desperately grasp
The greatness of democracy and love of liberty
The love of our country and its majestic beauty
A country of heroes that never dies in vain
So that the same freedom we have can be attained
By those whom have suffered under tyranny
By those whom have bled for the very same liberty
That our forefathers have fought for so desperately
To create this nation here on earth
And to preserve the principles that by birth
All of us have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
So to you my distant brother, I ask for forgiveness
That I was not by your side and could not hold your hand
As the witches of time cut their last strand
As you passed onto the darkness of night
May your soul be shrouded in the light
An immortal symbol your memory will be
For the coming generations to see."
Kenji Vue of Minneapolis, MN

"Thai, I have come across your story by chance and would like to pay my respects as a fellow serviceman and Hmong Vue clan member. Brother, you have my utmost respect, you have honoured your family and your country by choosing to do what you felt necessary to obtain peace for your people, whether they’re American or Hmong. Although we had never met we shared similar ideals; we both chose to serve for the greater good, for freedom and for peace. You paid a horrible price for your beliefs, but it is a price that we will never forget. You will forever be a hero in our eyes, as can be seen by the overwhelming number of thoughts shared on this site for you. May you find the peace that you willingly gave your life for. Lest we forget."

"“To the family of Thai Vue”

My deepest sympathy to you and all that knew Thia Vue. I served with Thia in Germany and deployed with him to Iraq. It was hard for me to accept his passing. I remember that day as if it was yesterday. Till this day I could still hear the mortars coming in. During the mortar attack, I ran out and with the help of PFC wiseboard we carried Thia into the building and gave Thia first aid. It has been 3 years, and I think what could I have done different to save him or I should have ran faster to get him. Many things have crossed my mind and nothing will bring him back. To the family…….. I am sorry for your loss and I am proud to have served with Thia in the 127th Military Police Company !! If you would like to contact me you can e-mail me at mrsal_2000@msn.com SPC Vue I salute you !!"

"I would like to thank everyone for their kind words to my brother and our family. I’ve visit this site periodically, but have not been able to bring myself to leave a message. It’s been very hard trying to get use to the fact that my brother is gone. Just the thought of him bring tears to my eyes. I would have taken his place instantly if I could. He was my children’s favorite uncle and it’s hard to hear how they talk about how much they miss him and wish for him to come back. Even though it’s been 3 years, it’s still very difficult to discuss about his departure and the effects it left on our lives, but I’ve read all the kind things that everyone has said and I just wanted to let everyone know that your kind words are greatly appreciated. Thank you for all your love and support and especially for keeping the memory of my brother, Spc Thai Vue alive. For all of you service man and woman, our thoughts are prayers are with you always."

FLOURNOY TYSON of FT. JACKSON, SC

"Here is a poem dedicated to Thai Vue. The author is Amanda Linzi:

I miss you more than words can say,
I think of you each single day,
I love you like my sister and friend,
I'll always love you til the end,

The more i think, the more i weep,
at least i have memories to keep,
I know we'll meet again soon enough,
but i can't wait cos this is tough,

every time i see a pretty flower,
i think of you then my eyes shower,
every time i take out my photo pile,
i look at you and me and i smile,

all the memories i hold in my heart,
no need to miss you, we're not apart."

"I have not the chance to know you Thai, nor meet you. But all the messages that are written to you says a lot about you. You are someone's son, someone's brother, someone's life, and many's hero. You really are being missed, I wish you can see all the people who loves you and cares about you. I hope you can see how much you are being missed. Thank you for being such a great friend to many, and leaving behind your smile for all to miss."

"To the Vue Family,
I served with Thai in Germany with the 127th MP Co. He was the first person I met at the barracks. Thai saw that I was having trouble using the phone to call to the states and he helped me without knowing me. Thats the type of person Thai was. He was a great Friend always willing to help. I know the pain I fell in losing a great friend is nothing compared to what you feel. Please know that he will be missed!"
SGT Sandoval, Daniel of Yongsan, Korea

"I don't know who Thai is or have ever heard of his name until the day my mom told me that she had heard that a Vue soldier was killed in Iraq. I served in Iraq in 2003 and I had met two Hmong-Vue soldiers and initially I thought that it might have been one of them. Later I found out that it wasn't, even then I was still sad and depressed. He was not only a fellow soldier, but a fellow Vue-brother.

More so than ever, I'm proud to be Hmong. For all the years that our people have struggled, we still have great heroes among us who still have the drive to make this country our home and to be part of its great Army to make it safe. I am proud to be a soldier, but even more so to be a Hmong-American soldier.

My prayers and thoughts are with his family. I don't know your son, or your brother, but in my heart I know that he is your hero, and he is mine."

I know a lot of the Vue family and my prayers are with each and everyone of them. I would like to let the Vue family know that There was someone from willows at his memorial in Hanau to pay respect. I am currently stationed in Germany and thought someone should be there! My prayers are with you and I give my condolenses!"

"To Thais family...
I knew Vue well him and I ran together when we were in Germany I have been very fortunate to have served along side him for the three years he was with the 127th mp co.We went to kosuvo together and countless field problems i have never in all my life met anyone that i could count on or wish any one i could have had by my side.Thai was my best friend and took along time to except he is gone.Thai was the type not to talk about personal things to people but i was one of the exceptions i was fortunate to know vue any a way that only one other outside his family knew because i two was his family, Nancy and the rest of Thai's loved one's just know that he loved you all and spoke of you fondley expecially his nephew.I am now back in germany and often i often feel the anger that i felt on that day the mortars were coming in.........but i know Vue and i know he is with our lord. God Bless his family his friends and anyone who has had the chance to meet Thai as a person not a soldier!"

"Many people have told me to keep my love ones close, but I never thought that the person who I love the most would be taken from me. Thank you for everything my dear brother. You will always remain in my heart and you will always be remembered as a brave and wonderful brother that I once had. Friendship is created by dependacy and love. Brotherhood by faith and trust. I am very grateful that we have had the opportunity to experience both. As my friend, you will never be forgotten, as my brother you will always be with me. I know I have never told you I love you before so I'm telling you now."I love you bro!" Watch over the family, boyz, and all the soldiers who are still fighting overseas. "To all the wonderful families-

I am sincerly sorry for all of your losses. I don't have a son, all daughters under the age of 10. But to lose a child would be a great loss even if it for "freedom". Those men and women are brave to go out there and fight for what they believe in. I am not sure if I can say I could do that. Especially for this war we are fighting.
A few months ago I "adopted" a solider. His name is Jose Barajas. He is in Camp Falcon. I haven't heard from him in over a month. My prayers and thoughts are with him along with the rest of the soliders.
I love that song called Letters From Home. I think its by John Michael Mongmory. Its hard to listen to that song and not cry. But it brings reality to my world.
Keep up the great work. Love you all."
Bette Harvey of Susanville , Ca. USA

"When I first read this story online in my local paper, my heart broke. I cried at work. The next day, I re-read the article and searched for more. I was crying real tears. The image of this brave but scared young man, who wanted to live, who had found true love and planned to go to college and make a good life, was suddenly gone. I never knew him, but will never forget his story, how he emailed his fiancee hours before he lost his life. I honor his courage and am still sad by his loss. Rest in peace, people who never met you, mourn your loss."
