"I met Marcus while leaving Iraq to go home to Germany on R&R as he was. He was about to embark on a venture that I could have never done at his age. A visit to Germany without any contacts or pre-arrangements. My friend SFC Bowie and I gave him as much knowledge, language and info of Germany as we could while waiting for the flight. I gave him my contact information in case he had any issues. I never got a call from him during leave. Leave ended, so I headed back. I met him once again at the Frankfurt Airport. All three of us sat and discussed what a good time we all had. What an awesome young man. He left an impression on me because of what he set out to do and accomplished. SFC Bowie and I both felt the same way. When I learned of the accident I couldn't believe it. Seeing his face in the Army times confirmed. My heart broke, I only knew him for that short trip to and from Germany but I promise you that he won't be forgotten by this Soldier. My condolences to Marcus' family."
