"To the Flores family:
My name is Francisco Hernandez, first of all I want to give my condolences to your family for the loss of a hero. I had the honor of becoming a Marine along with Lcpl. Flores. Hotel company Plt 2011, Oct. 22, 2004. All through out boot camp your son kept me motivated and watched out for me when I would lose my cool with other individuals around us. He'd always stop me and tell me "hey bro just let it go" and "don't worry about it". I always felt as if he had my back and we quickly became brothers. After boot camp I know he went off to "SOI" and I didn't see him again until one day in Oceanside Ca, I ran into him and another friend Lcpl Cortez, who was a Marine we went to boot camp with as well, I guess they got stationed together. But I remember we ran into each other at a sunglass shop out side of the movie theater and talked for a little while. But one of the last things I remember us talking about was the fact that they where deploying to Iraq in two weeks, and this remarkable young man said one of the most influential things to me when I asked him how he felt about it, because I was set to deploy two months after and I was looking for advice because I looked up to Flores. He said "Man Iam scared to go to Iraq, I don't want to deploy but I'm going to because its what I signed up for". This was very humbling to me because as young Marines we all supposed to be gung ho for some action, knowing that it was only covering the fear we were hiding inside of us. But Flores wasn't afraid to show his true feelings, and that gave me strength knowing that we shared the same feelings. I want to thank his family for raising an incredible indivdual.
"Thank you Flores I appreciate everything you have done for me in the little time we knew each other."
Sgt. Hernandez."

"Jonathon,
It's hard to believe that you and others I know are gone. There are still mornings I wake up and wonder what you are all doing with your lives and then I remember. I remember finding out what happened in class at Jay and wanting to not believe it was true. Now, the fear grips me more than ever, as your friend, now my fiance is facing deployment. Jon your memory is not forgotten your friends and classmates still remember you and miss you. To his family, I still pray for you and hope each day eases the pain. Go Mustangs, Support our Troops, Jonathon - we will NEVER forget."

"I can't believe a year has gone by. I know this first year was the hardest to overcome for the family of this great marine. I didnt know Jonathan, but I remember always seeing him around with my husband while they were on leave February of 2004. They were both dressed up in their Charlie's visiting the neighboring schools trying to recruit fine men like themselves. He was so young and full of life, and the sacrifice that he made for our freedom is more than we can ask for. My prayers are still to this day with the family and friends of Jonathan. May you find peace in your heart just knowing that your son, brother, friend, made a difference in our lives. He's making history for our future children. God bless him on his one year mark since his passing.

We will remember with our son, Joel, as he is home on predeployment leave. I am glad that we can be with him during this time. "Flores Family,
I will never forget my chance encounter with LCpl Jonathan R. Flores. I was on leave in San Antonio to attend my brother's wedding, when on my way to pick up my niece from her mother's house a funeral precession was about to pass by. I got out of my car to show my respects and noticed up and down the street of Pinn Road everyone else had as well, from the school kids and teachers at Anson Jones to the staff at Meadow Cliff all waving American flags for our hero LCpl Flores. As a nine year veteran of the Marine Corps it sent chills through my body to see the support and love we have for our heros in San Antonio. On this Memorial Day 2006 at Camp Buehring Kuwait I remember LCpl Jonathan R. Flores as well as all our other fallens heros. From the Escalante Family our hearts and prayers go out to you.

I am an 18 year old college student - I can't believe kids my age are fighting and dying in Iraq. Even though I disagree with the presdient, I am in awe of the courage of guys like Jonathan. I am sorry you lost a great son."

"I only knew Lcpl Flores when he was Private Flores at MCRD San Diego Fox Company Platoon 2094. I was in his platoon and in my opinion he was the hardest working recruit I had every seen. He never gave up until the job was done. He was a Damn Fine Marine.

"To the family of Jonathan Flores
Mr. and Mrs. Flores you raised a great son. I remember I used to walk to school, J.B.Passmore, when he would see me in the mornings he would always pick on me. I grew up with Jason and Joshua and Ebony in elementary, we were the best friends. i will always remember how Joshua would tell me in ROTC how he was going to join the service to be like his brother. Jonathan was a role model and a great friend, Ill always remember how he looked in his Camoflauge when he went to Jay. He was so handsome and now when i look at jason and joshua i see him. He was a great person with a great heart. Ill never forget him.
I love you and your family and always will. My prayers go out to your entire family.
