"I remember Mike from way back in AIT. He was a great guy. We weren't the best of friends but we'd drink together from time to time and we ended up in 3rd ACR together. He went to 4th Squadron, I went to 1st. I would see Mike from time to time on Fort Carosna nd we'd catch up. He was always such a great, upbeat guy that I really liked. When we heard about the bird going down, I was in Husaybah, Al-Qaim when it happened, it shook us all. My platoon Sergeant at the time, SFC Pigford, left 4th Squadron to come to us and he knew everyone on board...I only know Mike. I can't think of one time I've ever heard Diraimondo say anything negative, he was such an upbeat guy. He was my first friend that I lost in Iraq and it still hurts me when I think about him. My last real good memory of him before we deployed was EFMB Nov 2002 at Camp Red Devil. We ran into each other and talked for a good while. Mike was a great man, a great Soldier, and I will always remember him."

Long before January 8th, you were my hero. Today more and more people are coming to know you, the individual, the soldier, the warm sensitive and fun-loving human being. You are a true American Hero not because you died in a war but for what you did for your fellow soldiers while serving in that war. The Flight Medic risks his or her life every day in their effort to rescue, treat and evacuate the wounded and you often do so under fire. If that isn't a hero, I don't know what a hero is.

Through the Foundation we have established in your name, scholarships will be awarded to individuals who want to become paramedics, like you wanted, but don't have the financial means to do so.
