"Hi Mike,
Another Memorial Day went by and I thought of you all day and wore my KIA bracelet with your name. I even braved a Memorial Service with a Vietnam Veteran that was a pilot that was shot down three times! I think you would have really liked him. I retired in 2021. Never became that PA I always wanted to, but still saved lives doing patient movement just the same. Everytime I put that bracelet on, I’ll always remember you. Gone but not forgotten."

"I remember Mike from way back in AIT. He was a great guy. We weren't the best of friends but we'd drink together from time to time and we ended up in 3rd ACR together. He went to 4th Squadron, I went to 1st. I would see Mike from time to time on Fort Carosna nd we'd catch up. He was always such a great, upbeat guy that I really liked. When we heard about the bird going down, I was in Husaybah, Al-Qaim when it happened, it shook us all. My platoon Sergeant at the time, SFC Pigford, left 4th Squadron to come to us and he knew everyone on board...I only know Mike. I can't think of one time I've ever heard Diraimondo say anything negative, he was such an upbeat guy. He was my first friend that I lost in Iraq and it still hurts me when I think about him. My last real good memory of him before we deployed was EFMB Nov 2002 at Camp Red Devil. We ran into each other and talked for a good while. Mike was a great man, a great Soldier, and I will always remember him."
Mike Bowles of Fort Bragg, NC

"Hi Mike,
I have thought of you often. Knowing your looking down upon me and hopeful that you are proud of me as so many were of you. I still have the t-shirt that your family gave me for your memorial. I love wearing it to bed as I feel your protection wrapped around me like the Hugs you use to give. I always use to question God why he took you at such a young age, and now its clear that you lived each day with grace, you loved everyone without judgement and everyone you came in contact with loved you. At a young age you learn the lessons that takes others a lifetime. I miss you my dear friend and hope to follow your footsteps. I will never forget the sacrifices that you made for this country. I will continue to pray for your family that they receive peace as the years go on without your presence. I know back when you knew me, you probably couldn't picture me with children, but as mother to feel what your mother must feel as you left to fulfill another mission in heaven is unbearable. Please I know your busy but continue to help me to stay on the straight path. I love you my dear friend and will be seeing you soon."

"HI Mike,
Well I did it, I'm a LT now. I can't believe it's been seven years. Was just talking with Rich Hendrzak last night. He's giving speeches on PTSD in Florida and him and the wife are working on having a baby. I'm really excited for them. Looking back years later the pain is still there. I still remember SFC Mattek telling me that you were killed when I got off the plane in Colorado from Iraq, and it still shakes me to the core every time. I'll never forget. I'll always do the run for the fallen for you no matter where I am at. So this year it will be Seoul Korea. I'll update you and let you know how things go, and as always, miss you and Happy Holidays to the DiRaimondo Family and my prayers are with you."

I can not help but think that there is something so amazing about a person who puts themselves in harms way to make the world a better place. "Mike, The measure of a man can sometimes be found in the memories they leave. You left some of the greatest memories on and in those around you, my brother Nick was forever changed by the loss of his best friend and brother in life. Today they are holding a birthday party to celebrate his son Michael's second birthday. Named in memory of you young Michael is a happy go lucky kid who always has a smile and laugh ready for the moment when it will suit him best. The loss of a friend or family member impacts those immediately around them but the loss of a hero, like yourself, impacts everyone. You are always in our thoughts and your family is always in our prayers. Thank you for your sacrifice."

Well Mike, this is the first time I am leaving a message to you. Lisa keeps telling me that I need to look at this incredible website with these wonderful messages to you. After reading them tonight I realized how many people loved you so much. Until now I had a hard time reading them. I couldn't seem to make it through the first few. However I am glad I finally have. Dad, Dawn, Danielle, and I do not go a day without missing you. No one could have asked for a better son or brother. Your passing has forever left a hole in our hearts. Sometimes it is so difficult to even imagine life without you. However, we do feel you around us and will forever until we are together again. Your presence is definitely evident in the two little ones Mikayla, your niece, and Michael, Nick's son who are your namesakes. They will always know their Uncle Mike along with others yet to come. Life does go on, but we do take you along with us wherever we go. June 2nd is your birthday. I wish I could hold you. "Mike,
It’s been a long time brother. I can remember the first time I met you down at HHT and will never forget our crew out at Al Qaim. It was an honor to know you and a privilege to call you my friend. There are few great men in this world and when you left I felt like we lost one of the greatest I’ve ever known. I’ll always be thinking of you man and can’t wait to see you again one day! Keep smiling down on us!"

Battlefield medics are a different type of hero. Ask ANY soldier how they feel about a medic and you will see how much even they admire them.
We will never forget what all the brave soldiers have done and will continue to do, because thats what their good at.

"The day that I metyou, you were late for formation and I had to roust you out of your bunk. Then I had to do this on a great many more occasions. After a short while you started to respond (I think thatyou just got tired of doing those push ups). Then you started asking me how you could become a Flight Medic and that started a relationship that prepared you and eventually got you assigned to the 571st Medevac. You motivation was an inspiration to me and the day that you sent down was one of the two saddest I have experienced."

"Mike, Ive tried many times to contact your family without luck. When i heard of your death i was in Africa on R&R. I was a good friend of yours in AIT and afterwards we talked to each other on a regular basis. To this day i ask myself why you and not me. You did what people of no faith say is the "greatest honor". All i know is that im sure your family and friends would want you here instead of "doing the honorable thing". Honestly I still dont know how to react or feel about all of this. Ive tried to honor it with a tatoo of your name and death date on my arm but it still doesn't seem and never will seem to be enough. I have your picture from Stars and Stripes the day i saw the day. And for 5 years I have looked at pictures of you and me in AIT and i look at them consistently. But to end this, I love you bro and i wish together we could remember the times we had together with our friends.

"Dorito,
I often feel the guilt of your death on my shoulders. Just days before I was sleeping on your cot while you were out at the FOB for a bit. I was on my way back from emergency leave. If I hadn't been on emergency leave I have a strong feeling I'd have been flying with Phil that day. I have thought many times about it and still to this day have feelings of guilt and regret. You were a breath of fresh air in our platoon when you got there, a bit of new attitude and motivation in an otherwise stagnant group of people. It was a pleasure, I just wish I could have worked with you more, and drank a beer with you back in Colorado!"
Patrick B. Rose of Germany
"Hey there Michael… I wanted to wish you a happy birthday (a day early). I miss you dearly… I see or hear little reminders... I stop and smile, tell you I love you… and continue on. It’s funny I’ve been running into your mom a lot… I love seeing her; she’s the warmest loving person I know. I want you to know I’m doing well… keep popping in my thoughts… it makes me smile. I love you."

"Mike, Yesterday was memorial day, my son and I went to the memorial on Fort Carson and left flowers by your name. As I traced your name with my fingers tears rolled down my face. I remember being over there and hearing the news, I was in total disbelief, I had seen you 2 days before. I remember the pain that filled my heart. It's amazing how all of those emotions could resurface just by seeing your name engraved on that wall. It was so definite. I sat by that wall and explained to my son that you were a great friend and great guy, how you made such an impact on my life, and how much you enjoyed life. I know that you would not want tears shed over you, that wasn't your style. You would want us to have a "beer or six" and talk about the good times. I just hope you know that no matter how much time passes, you will always be in my heart my dear friend. I will forever tell your story, that of a great person who enjoyed the hell out of life and lived everyday to the fullest. I am so thankful that I was blessed with the opportunity to meet you. I know that I will see you again some day and I know that you will have a "cold one" waiting on me."

"Mike,
It's been well over a year and a half now. I still remember coming to work at TMC 10 with you all the time. 4/3 really saved my tail with that big inspection I had, and thanks to you and a few others, I got it done. I heard about your death the day I landed on the ground safely from Iraq, and it broke my heart. I went to the dedication ceremony of the new TMC and tried to keep the tears out of my eyes. You were such a great guy Mike. I always looked forward to seeing you. Now here it is sometime later, and I am in Korea. I just received a record from TMC 9 with your name on the clinic sticker. I almost forget, it's yours. I peeled the sticker off and placed it in my cubicle at work. I wish I could have told you before we all deployed how much I loved spending time working with you. You really were one of the greatest guys I was ever privelaged with. But now you have deployed farther than all of us now, so you can do what we all want to do. Stop wandering Mike, your home now.""

"Mike, I had just had a dream last night and noticed you were in it. I was walking nearby my house and came upon you just walking along. I walked up next to you and asked how you were. You told me youve been just wandering around. When asked where youve been all this time, you turned to me with a smile and said ......just wandering! as i watched you walk off, i remembered what news i had gotten in January. As soon as the memory hit me, i broke down in tears and had a very hard time asking this... i yelled "Mike, i thought something happend to you in January?" And believe me, that was even hard to say in a dream! You turned and smiled agian and replied "I told you, i'm wandering." I woke up in a heap of tears. As i woke, i thought of what was said. You watch over your family and most of all, miss them. This dream meant so much to me that i had to tell you. Thanks for listening to my dream! God Bless! Rest in peace Mike! Love ya!"

"Dearest Michael,
I write to you today, your birthday and I want to let you know how much I miss you. I remember so many of your birthday's as we celebrated them together. The one that stands out to me now is the one at Fudrucker's in Pasadena, which you picked. We had such a good time there. How we all laughed mostly from things that you said or did. We have such beautiful pictures of you and Dani, that we will cherish.
I don't think you had any idea how many people you have touched in your short time with us. More than most people do in a lifetime. You must be amazed looking down on us and seeing all the emotions of so many, not knowing at the time how you were making a difference. The world is a better place because of you. We will all try to carry on your gift of carrying. I am so proud of the man you became from the little boy in bright colored pants.
I will miss you forever.
Happy Birthday Michael

"Hi,
My name is Mickey Jones. My wife, Phyllis, is the lady who made the special quilt for the family to honor Michael and also arranged for the portrait of Michael. She has also spoken with Carol regarding the delivery of these items and mentioned to her that I am a golfer.
We both support our troops and pray for their safety everyday.
As you may or may not know, I am an actor. I play and host numerous celebrity golf tournaments all over the country. It's not often that I have the opportunity to something as special as this and do it right here in my own back yard. I would like to offer my services to act as a celebrity spokesman, host and even MC the awards dinner if that is something that you think would be beneficial. I could arrange to shoot a PSA that would get aired all over the Conejo Valley as well.
If this is something you would like me to do, you can call me at (805) 583-1066. Check out my website at
I look forward to hearing from you.
Take care and God bless!

"Michael-Baby,
It still doesn't seem real, and it is hard to imagine to have to live day by day without you. When you came into my life, everything changed -- for the better, for the best. I love you and your family so much. I know that I'll never be able to repay what you've given to me, from your love, your support, all that you could give, your soul. Someone once told me, "What's meant to be, will be," and baby I don't know why, and it will forever be so difficult so say this, but for a reason that only God can explain, it wasn't meant to be. Michael, I'm just so honored to have gotten the chance to feel what true love is, from such an amazing man as you. You will forever be my Everything. I will NEVER for get you, NEVER. Please look over us all, and help us along the way, until we all get to be with you again. "I'm here without you baby, but your still with me in my dreams, and tonight it's only you and me." I will forever Love you Michael."

"Sometimes in our lives we are blessed with meeting true angels who give all of themselves to the people who surround them. I was given an opportunity to become best friends with such an angel at the age of 6. Over the years Mike you have been there for me when I had no where else to go, or when I had no one to talk to. I always wanted to tell you how important of a friend you were, but I always thought I could let you know when I was through with college, or in the future when we both have beautiful wives and our families meet for karaoke nights, even though we both can't sing a note. Well Mike I never got that chance, but I thank God that you were not only a role model in my life, but a brother. Mike your memory lives on not just because you are one of the warmest and most loving individuals around, but because you will forever have a place in the hearts of the people who knew you. Take care Mike and hold down heaven, I will meet you there later on...."

Looking back at our childhood, I am amazed at the man you grew up to be; honest, thoughtful, caring and brave. The boy I grew up with turned into a hero. We are all so glad that you found your calling, happiness and fulfillment in life.
I never could have imagined that you would be taken from us so soon and every day I hope that I will see your bright smile and hear your cheerful laugh again someday.
You made the world a better place, Mike, and brought joy to all those whom you met along the way. It has become clear in your passing, just how many lives you have touched. I am truly honored to have known you.
I hope that we can all learn from you even though you are no longer with us, because you were truly a hero, a great man, and a good person. You were the kind of person we should all try to be.
You will always be in my heart Mike.
With love and honor,
Serena"

"My Dear Son,
Long before January 8th, you were my hero. Today more and more people are coming to know you, the individual, the soldier, the warm sensitive and fun-loving human being. You are a true American Hero not because you died in a war but for what you did for your fellow soldiers while serving in that war. The Flight Medic risks his or her life every day in their effort to rescue, treat and evacuate the wounded and you often do so under fire. If that isn't a hero, I don't know what a hero is.
Through the Foundation we have established in your name, scholarships will be awarded to individuals who want to become paramedics, like you wanted, but don't have the financial means to do so. In doing this, your purpose and your life will go on forever. Please guide and protect your mother, your sisters and me until we are together again. I love you,
Dad"

"Hey Mike,
This is SGT Taylor. I thank God for giving me the priviledge to meet you and serve with you in Iraq. It broke my heart to hear of your death. All of the soldiers that you gave the Blackhawk loading and approach class, during the Combat Lifesaver Courses we taught together, miss you and can't believe God would take some one who made such a positive impact in this world. We will continue to keep up the good fight in Iraq and will never let your death be in vain. I love you, and thanks for all the great times. I'll see you on the other side."
