"I was a Medic with 1St CAV on Camp Cuervo. Although I never had the opprtunity meet you, you have changed and helped so many Soldiers to include myself. While there on Camp Cuervo I along with some Great Americans started the Camp Cuervo Archery Club. They have helped so many Soldiers by providing Archery equipment in Iraq and Afganistan along with books videos. archery ranges were started to help Soldiers get away to escape the daily life you endure while deployed. They have even taken Soldiers and Disabled Vets hunting. I came across this site and just wanted to say you will never be forgoten. To your family I just want to say there are many people around the world that know PFC Cuervo and your Son has made an impact on a lot of people."

"David, I think of you every day. Every time I play a video game I think of how cool it was to see u play asteroids. You were the best person I knew at that game. The last time I remember being at ur house in opolis; I recall my mom saying we had to go home soon so Carla and I went in the bedroom and hid against the wall under a pile of blankets n pillows laughing so loud that even if it wasnt obvious, we could be heard all the way in the kitchen. I remember u coming in there and messing with us while we were hiding. I used to beg my mom to get off the bus at your house with Carla and Valerie. I can see in my memories you in the front room playing nintendo and your mom in the kitchen making some warm tortillas in the skillet and Carla, Valerie and I laughing and smiling and as I pan around in my memory I see Rosie smiling and your laughing at what she said. And we are all happy. We are all smiling and laughing and it's great. I had a boyfriend in Iraq in Baghdad when u were there and I think to myself all the time, man I wonder if they ever met or man I wish they were together so that they could watch each others backs. When I would talk to him on the jerky blurred webcam, I would wonder if u were able to do the same with your friends and family. When I would send a package of goodies and presents I would wish that I could send you one too. I always remember you and every day I swallow back a lump of sadness knowing that u were taken in Iraq and I think of you. I can only imagine how awesome of a soldier you were and how much of a man u became. I will be getting a tattoo in honor of you and I tell my now six year old son about you often. And if the topic of Iraq or OIF comes up it's u I talk about and it's you I tell people about. I pray for your family and I wish for their happiness. On this day that the world knows Osama bin laden has died I wish it had happened earlier and before December 2003 so that maybe just maybe you would have been called back. I know everything happens according to a more divine plan but it doesn't make the loss any less sorrowful. I know your family and friends were thankful for every laugh you shared and every word you spoke. I love you I miss you and I will always be your cousin. Love, Megan Loyd"

You knew me and I you in ways that only those who served togeather could. I often go back to the day in Woody and Adkins room when we had had a few to drink you hugged me and told me how your precious mother always tried to steer you to the Lord. You said she may not realize it but you always believed in the one that she faithfully served. While I am saddened by your departer I am comforted with the thought that you have departed to a better and wonderful place. "To the family of Rey Cuervo,
On 25 November 2008 at 11:00 AM the 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment and the 2d Cavalry Association will gather in Vilseck, Germany, to commemorate a monument to our fallen brothers from Operation Iraqi Freedom. PV2 Rey Cuervo will be honored on that day. His name will be engraved on the face of a permanent black marble monument along with his fallen comrades. The monument will be located in a park of 50 trees which will form a living memorial to these fine young Soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our Nation.
On that date and at that ceremony we will also honor the families of these Soldiers. We truly hope that the families can participate in the ceremony. It is the wish of the 2d Cavalry Association and the 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment to place a personalized flag case and flag for each of these fallen heroes in the hands of a family member.
We are requesting that these families contact us via email at deddygetty1@comcast.net to learn more about the ceremony and how they can participate.

"I think of you often Cuervo. I remember having a drink with you and another soldier the night before we were told we were shipping out and from that day forward we weren't allowed to drink. Fortunately, we got our drink on before and after watching "Meet the Fockers." LOL Just like you said the next day "Man, I'm lucky we drank last night because it could've been the last one ever." Unfortunately, Mora got in trouble that night and was restricted to base so he never got to go to the party. Yeah, that place closed before we could drink all our beers so we stood outside in the parking lot, placed all those cups on the truck of my car and drank every last drop. It was like .25 a cup that night!!! We got tore up but it was good times to be had. But anyways, I have very fond memories of you in Polk, and in Kuwait. I have a picture of you playing spades in Kuwait as we waited to load the C130. I want to send the picture to your family, I'm sure they will cherish it as I have. Well Cuervo, I don't know what the Army has slated for me but one day I will see you again. R.I.P. my brother.

"1,560 days....
(how many tears have you shed my friend?)
Did each day get easier than the last?
Every mothers nightmare.
Anguish held it's grasp.
(1,560 days, do the tears still start your day?)
If love is measured in every tear that drops.
Your love for him won't ever stop.
(your love droplets filled so many buckets.)
It hurts me too, to see your pain.
For we all know he died not in vain.
He chose to live the best he knew how.
So humble his crown and you were so proud!
(the past lives in our future.)
If you look back at the road you've travelled, so many memories, the past is unravelled.
But those lessons in life help us to grow, help us to reach out to those that don't 'know'.
So, share his life with those that will listen, and your eyes shall surely glisten.

You know I lay awake at night think about you were sitting my seat. I went home and you sat in my seat. I should have stayed and been in my seat, theres no reason that I should have gone home and left you to fill my spot. If I could go back in time I would in a heart beat and tell you to jump in the back and cover my six. You know the only time I truly felt safe on mission was when you were in the rear driverside pointing the rifle were it had to go cuz I was driving like we stole it. This summer were going to make a trip out to the grave, me and valentine. we havent come to say our peace yet and we feel horrible about it. We lived off post at Helemano Military Reservation and we had the guys out to the house a lot. Cuervo and his roommate Drew Heaton were there often along with several others from the barracks. I just wanted to let you know that even though Rey is gone, he will live in our hearts forever."

"I called your house yesterday Cuervo trying to get a hold of you, and your mother answered and told me what had happen,I couldn't believe what I was hearing.I still can't believe it. We shared so much in common and got along so good and used to do everything together even got in trouble together. We always had each others back no matter what! And we had a bond that no one could break and never will break. We hung out so much that people used to tease us about it, but we didn't care because we were like brothers, as a matter of fact you were my brother, the brother I never had. We always knew what each of us were thinking with out saying a word. And thats pretty special. But then again your were a special person with a big heart and full life and joy and always had a smile on your face that's the Cuervo I will always remember.I love you Cuervo and I will never forget you.I want to send a big Thank You to Rey David Cuervo's MOM who he love more than anybody in this world even the lord himself.I want to thank you for raising your son to be the man that he grew up to be. Even though his life was cut short he touch so many people's lives, espically mine that will last for eternity. From everybody who had the honor to serve with you in the Cavalry family. Scouts Out! In Loving Memory of Rey David Cuervo. You will never be forgotten, I'll make sure of that Bro.I'll see you in the afterlife, make sure you save me a seat next to you.I know you will."

"I served with Cuervo in Hawaii. I heard of his passing, and I'am sadden. But even to this day Cuervo's name still brings a smile to my face. I can picture him dancing in the hallways of the barracks or him and me singing to our Mexican music all night long. I am sadden that he has given the ultimate price as a soldier and you his family have lost your son and you his friends have lost a great trusted man. I am truly honored to say I served with Rey D. Cuervo. So I'll say not goodbye ,but see you in the after "My Friend"."

"I had the honor to serve with Rey in Iraq. I was a Sgt. in Reys squad. I will never forget about Rey from the first day he came to us at Camp War Eagle to the day he left us at Camp Muleskinner. Rey always had a smile on his face no matter what we were doing. From spending long days in the mech. bay to waking up at two in the morning to bust down some Iraqi door, Rey never complained. One time I will never forget, it was Rey another Sgt. and myself teaching Iraqi soldiers first aid. On break Rey made all the Iraqi guys sit back down and he started to teach them the game of football using old Iraqi helmets as player positions. It was so funny, the Iraqi soldiers didn't understand anything he was saying, but Rey didn't care. He was just have a great time. And that is how he always was. He just enjoyed what he did. To Reys mother, I am very sorry for your loss. Rey was a great guy and I am honored to say that I knew and fought along side of Rey. I WILL NEVER FORGET. Scott Olds_69@yahoo.com"

May God continue to comfort you in your lost, Know that God is able. PFC Cuervo was in the 2nd ACR with me. And we served in Iraq together. It is with honor, that Camp Muleskinner, Iraq was renamed Camp Cuervo. The ceremony was so nice, I spoke with a lot of his squad on that day and when they talked of Cuervo, their faces glowed. They,I and others are so very proud of you. Rest in Peace."

"I had the opportunity to work with Rey in Hawaii and served with him in my platoon for only a few short months. In my time with Rey I learned that he was a motivated soldier that brought a refreshing level of candor and competence to every day. There are few soldiers who work as hard as Rey did. The last time I saw Rey I was hounding him to give me a copy of a group picture we took at the end of our JRTC rotation in February 2002. That picture now sits in my living room as a reminder of what a great young man he was.
- And when our work is done,
Our course on Earth is run,
May it be said, "Well done:
Be thou at peace.""

"To the Family of Rey Cuervo,
I am deeply saddened by the loss of this young Trooper. As a member of my Platoon in Hawaii, Cuervo was always able to lighten the moment and bring a smile to everyones face. He was able to accomplish any mission given to him and was sought after by his peers for assistance in technical areas. I hold many fond memories of your son and can only offer my heartfelt sympathies to you. Your son will never be forgotten by myself or any other former soldiers that served alongside him here in 3-4 Cav.

"Then I would have been at rest
With kings and counselors of the earth,
Who built ruins for themselves,
Or with princes who had gold,
Who filled their houses with silver...
There the wicked cease from troubling, And there the weary are at rest.
There the prisoners rest together;
They do not hear the voice of the oppressor.
The small and great are there, And the servant is free from his master."

I remember going out partying with him having drinks and generally a good time. I used to give him a ride when he needed it and anything else that he needed. I have vivid images of him and it's surreal that he is gone, but he is never gone. Cuervo is with God and I know I'll see him again when I lay to rest. I've said a prayer for him and his family.
