"Casper"
It's been a long time since you went away, I remember when we met in Kuwait as part of ADVON, I remember thinking how nice of a person you were. I also remember the last time I saw you, we were in Camp Fallujah and you just found out you and your unit had to go to a different base, so I gave you a hug and said "be safe" it wasn't even two days later I was driving the 1stSgt and the CO and they were talking to each other, the CO asked the 1stSgt "did you hear about that marine the just died in 2/11?" I remember thinking; please don't be anyone I know. The 1stSgt responded "yea, his name was....umm..Casper right?" I didn't say a word, I just kept driving, I was frozen and I couldn't believe it. I had just seen you, I had just told you to be safe. I'm so sorry you’re not with us anymore, I still think about you all the time. I just wish I could have done something, anything. I feel guilty that I'm alive and you’re not still to this day. Once I heard I wanted to call your family and just tell them that I was sorry for their loss and tell them how great of a person you where, but I was scared and I never did. I am sorry it took me this long to write to you, you will never be forgotten."
SSGT of ST.Louis MO

"Casper,
I have been wanting to post on here for a while now. Its hard for me still to this day. Its been 7 years now, and I still can picture that day like it was yesterday. We were roommates in Motor T" school and when we got to Echo. We shared so many experiences and stories with eachother. You were always there for me. It tears me up when I think about you. I miss you and wish you were still with us. My last 4 years in the Corps were hard without you around. I know you are looking down on us and protecting your fellow Echo brothers. I promised myself I will visit your memorial. I love you man.. Semper Fi!!!"
Former Sgt. Joshua Logue of Las Vegas, NV

"Casper, I can still see you walking down the hall with that smile of yours. I'm sorry that I never took the time to really ever know the you that your family did. You were the kindest person I have ever known. I don't think I will ever know anyone like you in my lifetime. I can still see you walking through my door when you were on leave. As always you had the biggest smile on your face. When you said I will see you soon as you were leaving I didn't know it would be the last time. The news of your death hit hard and I felt so numb. I sometimes think I see you and when I turn you aren't there. I think about you every single day. There will never be a day that goes by that I don't remember the times. My brother took it the hardest. I know you and him were best friends. He misses you.... I wish you didn't have to go. I feel god was being selfish taking you from us, but I know he had his reasons. I want you to know that my son planted a tree in your name in Colorado and you will always be honored there. I have told my son about you and what you did for this country. He wants to follow in your footsteps and become a marine. Even though you are gone you are still with me and I carry your memory with me and I will never forget you or your smile. I love and miss you Casper..... I see your mother alot and I just want you to know she looks happy...."

Don't know really where to start, but just wanted to say that on March 25th me my bro & some school mates went to the local bar & took shots of 151 for you as I told all these bad-* people of how cool you were & shared some of our stories. A lot of others from Echo Btry throughout the Country did the same including Ramos & other friends... We miss u & you keep living in all of our hearts!!! Semper Fi to u & your Family! Continue gaurding heaven with all of our other "Jarheads" oohrah!"

"Casper

I do not know where to start. I would like to tell every moment I spent with you but, that would take up to much space.

I am sure you remember but your kookoo-itist might have gotten worse over time.

We met back in Diwaniah, Iraq around April 2003 the day we said goodbye to 2/11 and were sent as “red headed step children” (as you would say), to Weapons 2/5.

“Those bastards at 2/11 are probably drinking beer by now” is what would come out your mouth at least six times a day. That summer we spent in A’Samawiah was the best/worst time of my life. We spent every waking moment together. “We were each other’s family” as you said.

You had so much energy and life in you I could not understand how after a 16 hour work day you still had the energy to crack a joke. But, that was you, that was how you got both of us through that hellhole. Thanks to you, I am here to tell a little bit of your story and how you wanted to help any and everyone.

I thank you for being a friend, mentor (as my senior Marine), personal comedian and most important a brother.

I hope to have this conversation with you one day.

Thank you for everything!!

Enrique Maldonado
Or as you would call me. “Ma’dildo!!”

I now carry a heavy heart for him. After I learned of his departure from us. His memory will always be with me. I had a great time hanging out with him and talking about his truck he wanted. I some time wounder if thing would have been different if I would have stayed in.I will always remember you man

"My Buddy Casper

Good Times!
Ozzy and Metallica
The Simpsons and King of the Hill.
No worries at all
Chug a beer, down a shot
Party in room 413!
My Buddy Casper.

You’ll still be at work at six,
Charging forward, attacking the day.
Making everyone laugh, stupid jokes.
Always delivering a smile to my face

Whatever I needed
Women advice, help with the Jeep
Driving the 7-ton, delivering the ammunition
You weren’t finished till the work was done

Wrestling in the pit,
I’d school you every time.
Something inside
Made you come back for more.
If someone lived with passion
It was you.

All gave some, Some gave all.
Could have been me. Sadly, it was you.
It’s my honor to have known you.
You gave your freedom so others could live theirs.

There on my wall looking at me
Is where you stay.
A snapshot of the good times

This life is for you brother

We all miss you.
My Buddy Casper."
Aaron Tremblay, SGT USMC of Incline Village, NV

"James Casper, it was an honor to meet you and to hear your stories of the war when you came to dinner with my son and myself, here, in Oceanside. I was very sad to read of your death, although you are truly an American Hero. I wish your family healing and love, and you will always be remembered."
Kat Parker of Oceanside, CA

"To the Casper family. My name is Sgt Arthur p. Cruz jr and i am in the u.s. army. I am being deployed to Iraq in august. I have worn your sons bracelet for over a year now and will not take it off until his name can no longer be read. I would appreciate it if you could send me an 8 by 10 photo of your son so that i may hang it on my wall in memory of a soldier who gave his life for his country. This would mean alot to me to be able to this. You can send it to Sgt. arthur cruz hsc 449th asb 36 cab ft. hood, tx 76544 you can also reach me at 210-478-1273. Once again words cannot comfort you with this great loss. I can tell you i appreciate what your son did and what others continue to do. No matter what the media and other people say when a soldier loses his or her life each and everyone of them believed in what they did. I believe in what i do and if you ever need anything please do not hesitate to ask."
Arthur Cruz of Ft. Hood , Texas

"Dear Son, It's been over a year now since you've been gone. I still hope sometimes I'll wake up from this nightmare. I still see you laughing, smiling and picking on your brother and sister.I try not to cry about you because I know you're in a better place, but I still want you here with us . I know I'm selfish ,but I think God will forgive me for that.I wish you could be here to watch Skylar James grow up.Everybody says he looks like you when you were a baby.He even laughs, smiles and cuts up like you did.We thought he would have brown eyes like your sister and brown hair like his daddy, but he has blonde hair and blue eyes like you.I know you would have been going to the mall with your brother and nephew going chicken hunting .That's what you're brother calls it now.We all still miss you a lot.See you soon. Love Mom"
Kay Darlene Mitchell of Coolidge Tx. USA

"James... Thank you doesn't even begin to describe the gratitude for your sacrifice. Not only have you been in my prayers, but so has your family. Being a family member isn't all that easy either, you have an amazing family I am sure of that one. Watch over them as they deal with life after you have gone. Get comfortable in the Lord's arms, for you have reached home. Thank you again and again and again for the sacrifices you (and your family) have made to our country."
Cansas of Bluefield, WV

"Casper,
I still remember the first time i saw you at the motor pool you where running around parking vehicles and woking hard unfortunately the vehicles where from another battery and i remember laughing with sanabria, but i guess the first impression i got from you was that you where a hard worker, always in a good mood and alway craking jokes. I have you in my memory of those countless times we spend in the field with Echo and no matter how tired and stressed out we where you where usually the one to lighten up the day. Rest in peace buddy the news of your loss hit me like a bucket of cold water and the world was a sadder place with you gone from it but heaven is a funnier place now with you there. Later bro you will never be forgotten."
Sgt. Puc, Eddie of san diego Mayazpuc@yahoo.com

"James when i think of you,I think on how great of a friend you were to me and my brothers.Hec, you are my brother, we've had some great times,But dont tell JIMBO though, because it was after 12,sorry James i told on you.James you were the only one who came to visit us and showed us alot of love. You are a real friend to us because you didn't think of us as trouble makers and never started a conversation,by saying;BEEN STAYING OUT OF TROUBLE'.Nobody knows but me and you were the real troublemakers of Coolidge. I'm just joking. James i cant think of my brother without thinking of my other and thats you.I love you bro, and i will see you soon. Your Bro DP"
DAVID PEDROZA of WORCHESTER,MA,USA

"I requested James' hero bracelet, as I wanted to honor someone from Tx, and I wear it proudly every day. My thanks & prayers go out to the family. From reading the other posts I can tell that he's greatly missed & deeply loved. Thanks to all who serve & have served. God bless you."
Terri Parkes of Hurst, TX

"When I think of Casper, I always think back to our training op at March AFB and sitting around the fire barrel listening to him crack those jokes. I will be placing a flag in memory of him at the Memorial Day ceremony on tuesday. All of the men and women who have given their life will have a 5 by 6 flag flaced in the most prominent park of my city, Charleston, SC. It will be my honor to place Casper's"

I know you are with the lord and in a happy place due to where ever you go you just light up the whole room. Well cuddy take care of your self and say hi to granny and the family for me. Remember I LOVE YOU AND WILL ALWAYS MISS YOU!I will be with you soon. Your always in my dreams and prayers!!"
Jennifer Knight of Mexia,Tx

"You were so full of life, always smiling and carefree life loved you being part of it, and i loved you being part of me. You could make anyone laugh, if they were having a bad day. No matter how sad i was, you could take the hurt away. Nothing could ever stop you, or even make you fall. You were ready to take on the world, ready to do it all. But God decided he needed you, so from this world you left. But you took a piece of us all, our hearts are what you kept. Your seat is now empty, and it's hard not to see your face. But please always know this, no one will ever take your place. You left without a warning, not even saying good-bye. And i can't seem to stop, asking this question why. Nothing will ever be the same, the house is empty without your laughter. But i know your up in heaven, watching over us and looking after. I didn't see this coming, it hit me by surprise. And when you left this world, a small part of us died. I remember you swinging on the swings, you were just a boy. And the last time i saw you, you were riding your pride and joy. Your smile could brighten anyone's day, no matter what they were going through. And i know every day for the rest of my life i will be missing you. Hey bro just thought i would write a poem i found it out of the book that would describe you. you will be missed alot and i love you."
Lori Casper of Coolidge Tx.

"To the Family of LCpl. Casper,

It is with a heavy heart that I write these words to you and other family members of Marines who have fallen. I come from a long family line of Marines; I too am a Marine Corps veteran. His service to his Country and his Corps will live forever in the minds of his fellow Marines all over this country.

While I never personally met this Marine, every Marine is my brother and it is with love and respect to his family that I say to them the words of retired GySgt Ermey, "The Marine Corps lives forever, and that means you live forever."

God Bless and Semper Fidelis"
Rob of Iowa

We love you, you will be missed! Thank you for being our HERO!!

We know you're in a beautiful place now! God Bless You and May You Rest In Peace!!"
Marie Soza of Houston, TX (USA)

"I wanted to share this, it was sent to me by a very close friend in Houston. He is in the Army and of course has a very personal understanding of how all of us that knew James are grieving for our loss. I thought it was beautiful and wanted to share it with you all. I hope all that know and love James will find comfort in knowing that he is in Heaven and looking down on us all, probably in awe. Maybe he didn't really know that he was as loved and respected as this page has shown those that visit it. I miss you James.

"This was written in the 1880s by an ex-soldier who fought in the Civil War. He was in Company H, 1st Tennessee. I thought you might want to share it with those who knew that young Marine. I've used this several times at services for soldiers who died while on active duty.

"A life given for one's country is never lost. It blooms again beyond the grave in a land of beauty and love. Hanging around the throne of sapphire and gold, a rich garland awaits the coming of him who died for his country, and when the horologe of time has struck its last note upon his dying brow, Justice hands the record of life to Mercy, and Mercy pleads with Jesus, and God, for his sake receives him in his eternal home beyond the skies at last and forever.""

"I can send you my thoughts and prayers and say it is hard for anyone to lose a loved one in this manner. I can tell you from recent experience that comfort will come in time...........! I also wanted to share a poem that has brought me comfort since the loss of my brother.

Judie Watson and sons

High Flight
John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."
Judie Watson of Hurst, TX, USA

"I knew James and worked with him when he worked at Walmart in Mexia, Tx. He was such a great young man. I learned of his death on Thursday and I sit here typing this message still not believing it. For those that read this and didn't know James...He had a smile for everyone. He was one of the most non judgemental people I knew. He was of course, to me, a "kid", but he was very very mature for his age. He was funny and always knew how to make me laugh. I moved away from Mexia in July 2000, he, I learned today joined the Corps in August 2001. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. He will be greatly missed by me. I cared for him as if he were my own son. My deepest heartfelt sympathies to his mom Darlene, his dad Joe, his brother Jeremy and his sister Lori. Also to the rest of his family and friends in the Limestone county area and abroad. I will never forget you James, or the ultimate sacrifice you made for your country. You will always be in my heart and in my thoughts. Wear wings James."
Rhonda Riggs (Neal) of Ponder, TX USA
