"Sgt Calderon, it’s Memorial Day weekend 2022. I visited a traveling memorial today and found your picture. You are not forgotten brother. I still remember all the basketball games with you and the crew from the S-3 on Camp Pendleton “you reach, I teach.” We were both Sgt’s at the time and loved what we did. You led in the right way. We had a conversation in the parking lot outside my Armory just as I was ready to EAS in 03. I’ll never forget it. I talk of you often, I’ll remember you always. Love you brother, Semper Fi"

"My name is David Zapet-Castillo (SSGT. USMC):

I had the privilege and honor of knowing Juan during two of the most critical times in my Marine career. Juan and I first met in boot camp MCRD in 1997, we spent Thanksgiving, X-Mas and New Years together (we were all young men back then); at that time all the Marine Corps would let us have was each other and we made the best of it. Juan was always a genuine person and a loving soul. We shared many funny and fond memories of those days, again, when I saw Juan (& Gonzo) at my first duty station in Camp Pendleton. When I joined 1/5 I was alone and scared. When I saw Juan and Gonzo by the head shed that sunny afternoon I knew everything would be ok. We immediately hit it off again and he introduced me to the entire Battalion. Had it not been for Juan my first couple of weeks in the fleet would have been my last. I owe you a lot, brother. I'm saddened by the news of your passing. I have known for some time now but have not had the courage to say anything; honestly I had no clue what to say. I know that you are up there making God roll over with laughter and I take comfort in the fact that you are in his graces. We have met twice in this life and I can’t wait for the third time in the next...I’m sure you will have some stories to tell. God bless the family you left behind and know that I will always honor your memory. Semper Fidelis Marine…"

"To Juan,
Tomorrow is Memorial Day, and it's been many years, and it's never gotten easier. I wish I could talk to your family, and tell them how great of a friend you were to me. You were so funny, I remember you listening to George Lopez and always yelling "chow!!" and when you would brag about being an Expert, I would tell you "muy chingon!" I remember our talks, how you would always tell me you wanted kids, and how you always played with my son whenever I took him to work, and ask me about him. I remember that whenever I was having a bad day, I would go visit you at the S-3 because you're great attitude was so contagious. I was crying in church today, thinking of you. I was reading John15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." Thank You, words cannot say. We had our laughs, and we had our talks, you were my best range coach, you never gave up on me, you're the best coach one could hope for. To your family, I want to let you know, I will never forget Juan, we are going to a Memorial Day ceremony tomorrow, I'm taking my kids, and they will know of him. I will never forget. To Juan's wife your husband loved you very much, and he'd show me pictures of you guys, he loved you very, very much."

"Sgt Calderon it's been a while that I’ve written but the truth is that I think of you quite often, especially at the start of football season as we both enjoyed watching the Cowboys (looks like this could be the year). A lot has happened since the last time we spoke, after 25 years I finally retired from the Corps in 2007 October. Listen, by reading what was previously written by others I understand that you and your wife had a baby boy? Congratulations pardner I hope your son grows up to be the kind of man that you were. I might be sounding all upbeat but the truth is that I cried a couple of tears before I started writing. Anyway, until we see each other again, rest in peace Sgt Calderon and always remember that you will never be forgotten. "Semper Fi Marine!"

"To the Familia of Sgt. Calderon: It has taken me a while to write a message on this page because it took me a while to come to terms with the fact that I lost a brother. I still remember me and my family living across the street from your family on Sipple St/Camp Pendleton. We would take our kids trick-r-treating on Halloween to your house...lol I worked with Juan at MCB CPEN. I remember when I would go over to see how the S-3 was doing and he would always be there with a smile on his face and ready to help out with anything. I was stationed with I-I 4th Medical Bn when I recieved the news by email from GySgt Walsh. I was devastated to hear the news. Juan will forever be in my heart My Brother. May God watch over your family and you will be in our prayers. We miss you Juan!"

"MY NAME IS SGT. REYNOLDS, a former marine who served with your son in okinawa around 2001. I was a combat engineer and if you need anything feel free to contact me, i believe i have a picture but not sure."

"To the Family of Juan Calderon,
I deeply regret the loss of not only a great Marine but a friend and mentor to me. Juan always looked out for me when I served with him when he worked at the S3 Shop. I regret to say that it has taken me this long to say something but i didn't know what to say. Juan was the first friend that I had to watch pass in this war. He was not the last but that doesn't make a difference. Juan was a real friend and a great Marine. Juan, You were a mentor to me and showed me how to lead Marines. I will forever be in debt to you for that and one day, i will see you again with the rest of our fallen brothers. It will be long overdue thats for sure. You will never be forgotten C.....Never...Peace be with you and your Family. Semper Fidelis Brother....Never will I Forget you...."
Sgt Jeremy Hamilton of Sacramento, CA

"Sgt C,
I don't know where to begin brother... I recently visited your picture at the memorial in Arlington and it brought back the memories we shared at Camp Pendleton. We often ran into each other in the S-3 shop training Marines how to shoot their service rifles. After a while we even began to challenge each other on the range to see who could shoot a higher score. No matter how hard I tried or prepared you always were better than me. On qual day you beat me by one point. I'll never forget that. It saddens me to see that you're gone. You had a great personality and were always able to cheer us up when we were discouraged by telling a joke or something to pass the time. I've moved on from the Corps now and still work side by side with the Devil Dogs at Pendleton as a Fire Fighter. Every day I look at these young Marines beginning their careers and it reminds me of how you used to lead them and give a sense of direction in life. You had that ability with people 'C'. Man I miss you brother. People say all the time that "We will never forget those who have fallen in the sake of freedom". I'm here to tell you brother that for those who served that is more than a motto that inspires... It is a part of us. God bless your family Sgt C. I'll see you again someday brother. SEMPER FI DEVIL. We miss you..."

It's been almost 2 years since you've entered into the glory of the Lord. I pray for your family, and pray that they seek the wisdom, righteousness, and comfort of our heavenly Father God. To the Calderon family: I had a distant relationship to you, if any at all. Junior was my "would be brother in law" as his sister was with my brother. The short time I spent with him, we just did crazy stuff together, not just as friends, but as brothers. The Last thing he ever told me when he called me in 2002, was that no matter what had happened in the past between our siblings, that he and I will always be brothers. I pray for you all and that the Lord shine his favor to those upon you who seek his righteousness.

"Sgt Calderon, it's almost been a year now but I still think of you often. I missed you at Rookies last year, our hangout to watch our beloved "Dallas Cowboys." At the season opener all your buddies that you used to sit with asked for you. I told them what had happened, many of them dranked a quick beer and left, others walked away crying. As a tribute to you, I sent a letter to the Dallas Cowboy Weekly, praising you. Belive it or not, it got printed. I saved it and take it out every so often to read it and shed a tear. Well, Marine, I'll let you rest for now, until I see you again. Semper Fi!!"

Nereo Calderon 559-275-5886 of Fresno California,U.S.A

"Words cannot say how much this Devil Dog meant to us all. I remember him so well, he and hi would clown around alot, and I used to tease him on and off so much. He was such a damn good Marine, and he loved God, his Corps, and his Country. My last day on Pendleton I remember him so well, I was teasing him again on something, I believe it was because he was becoming a leader, and a damn good NCO. He took charge of his Platoon, and it was funny to me because I remember him getting yelled at by the SGT's a few years earlier for some thing when he was just a boot. It was his turn to be a leader, it was his time to guide young Marines as an NCO. Inside I was so proud of him, he was everything a Marine should be, he stood for everything a Marine stands for. He loved his wife so much, and his family because he would tell me about them alot and how much fun he had on leave. God rest this hero's soul, if only I can be as brave as him, if only I can carry the honor that he carried. I cried hard when I heard the news, I know he fought to end, I know exactly how he gave those Muslim Bastards hell. He always did his duty. "Semper Fi pal, Semper Fi." 781-861-6166"

"Ana, I have been touched by your husbands story. I'm part of an organization that researches fallen soldiers and their families. I started this to help our group to help others. But now it is for the soldiers and their families. There are many wonderful things said about Juan from all over. I was especially touched by Juan's life and sacrifice. I would like to speak with you by email if that is ok. I want to thank you personally for your families sacrifice and Juan's sacrifice to keep my family safe. I can't pray for you and yours enough. My children read the story and brought tears to their eyes. They understand....they appreciate...and they pray as well. Thank you sooo much Juan.
