"I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry. I understand in theory only that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take the families pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. There is not a day that doesnt go by that I dont think about you and your family. Years later you still continue to have an impact on my life. I am in the Army now and I can only imagine what you would be like to these Soldiers. There has never been a better mentor to me than you and I still have your voice in my head. Thank you for all you have done for me. God Bless you and your family.

Jimmy -

We just got back from the Mountains the other day. I remember you and I going there as a family with the girls and having a wonderful time at the National Park. The girls and I had so much fun on my Aunt's waverunner and Jimmy loved riding on the boat & fishing too. The lake was absoutely beautiful and the kids loved watching all the wildlife and playing outdoors. The only thing that was missing was you.

Throughout the weekend the kids and I would say "Daddy would love this!" or "Daddy would be doing this right now!" of "What do you think Daddy would say?".... So, even though you are not with us physically you are still always with us. We did a lot of stuff that our family would have done if you were still alive and I know that makes you proud.

We would be doing stuff by the lake and I'd look at our kids and see you in each of them....looks, mannerisms, personality....it's amazing to me. Our kids are growing up so fast and I know that you are standing right there next to me watching them as they grow and just as proud as I am.

We love and miss you and are wishing you a very Happy Father's Day in Heaven. The girls are pretty sure that you are enjoying your day watching TV, listening to music and eating lots of food!!!!! The kids are saying "I love you daddy" as they run around and they are also saying that Ernest, Pepper & Roxy say hi too!"

"April 15, 2008.

Four years ago today you were taken away from us much too soon. You still had so much living left to do and so many dreams and goals that you wanted to accomplish. Your life was cut short, but we know God had another plan for you and that you are in Heaven.

So, while this day marks a very sad milestone, we are getting through the day by remembering you for the wonderful person you were and by doing the things you loved and enjoyed to do when you were alive.

Today is a day of both happiness and sadness for us as we remember all of our wonderful memories as a family and think about you. You have never and will never leave our hearts. We love and miss you so much.

Through our grief and sadness we have found strength to continue on with our lives and to raise our family in a manner that you would have wanted, approved of and that would make you proud. We are doing well as we continue to be surrounded by an amazing support system of family members, friends, your Marines, members of the Community and Gold Star Families.

You will always be loved, honored and remembered by your family and friends. You were a proud Marine and you were an amazing father, son, husband and friend.

Loving you always and forever."

"Jimmy we are coming to a time in the year that Caitlyn cant stand. This part of the year she should be happy thats its spring and the sun is out and flowers are blooming. But she doesnt She sits and looks at your pictures and wishes that you were still here. She hates this time of year. It is so sad to see her like this. I know you two didnt see each other that much when you were alive but she knew deep down in her heart that you loved her, and she loved you. So as we come to the fourth year of your passing we just remember how great you were to all of the kids. Rest in peace Jimmy and please look out for our daughter."

"This is our 4th Christmas since your death. I still remember the first Christmas after your death. Jimmy was just a baby and it was so hard on the girls. It was very emotional, but our family and friends helped us.

It's still difficult and painful, but it's a different kind of pain and sadness. I was just glad we made it through this last Christmas and thankful to our family and friends for their continued emotional support. Even after all this time it doesn't seem real to us. There are times that we think there must be a mistake or that we might be having a nightmare, but then reality sinks in and we realize that you are really gone.

We continue to feel your presence and that helps us so much. During the difficult times we feel you holding our hands and picking us up. You come to us in our dreams and we wake up with smiles on our faces. You are definitely sending us messages and we know that you will never leave our sides as we continue re-building our lives.

We enjoy visiting you and just sitting and talking with you. Jimmy is still to young to fully understand the situation, but he knows that his daddy loves him very much and is his guardian angel watching him from Heaven. He is so much like you and I wish you had the chance to hold your son if only for a minute.

The girls are growing up so fast. Each have a part of your personality and both have your mannerisms. They continue to deal with your death and know that you are always with them.

We make a point to go to the places that you and I had taken them to when you were still alive and hold on to those wonderful memories while making new memories along the way.

We love you very much and miss you very much."

"Jimmy -

We just returned from Florida, thanks to OEC. We had a great time, but it was hard because you were not with us. It was one of several trips that we had talked about doing before you were taken away from us. We felt your presence throughout the trip and enjoyed seeing family and friends.

We find peace in knowing that you are in a wonderful and peaceful place with God. That gives us comfort. You are always in our thoughts and the pain of loosing you is something that will never leave our hearts. We miss you so much.

Vanessa and Natalia say to tell you to catch all the kisses and hugs they are sending you right now in Heaven. 'Little' Jimmy is also sending you lots of kisses and hugs while he runs around at top speed.

We love and miss you."
Love your family, Rachelle, Vanessa, Natalia and 'Little' Jimmy of California

"As I headed out the door this morning, I got the call. Jimmy, he is on his way home from Iraq. Thank you for being his guardian angel while he was over there. We prayed to you for his safety so he could return to his family and friends....he is finally coming home!!!!!!! You should have seen Vanessa and Natalia's face when I told them the news. Of course 'Little' Jimmy was screaming and jumping for joy too since his big sisters were. We are so happy...We love you and miss you so much."
Always in our hearts, Rachelle, Vanessa, Natalia and 'Little' Jimmy of California

"Jimmy you should have seen her, it was her first formal. She is so beautiful. I remember when she was a baby and you would put her in those dressy dresses, and how much i hated those but now wow she is some thing else.
She got some new pictures of you on Monday and one of the three kids. she loves them so much. She cant believe how much they have grown."

"Jimmy -

It's Fair time!!!! I still remember our fun times at the fair with our friends and that was the beginning of our relationship. Our son is growing up so fast. He is such a blessing and such a little man already. He makes us laugh all the time and he is a mini version of you. Every time he see's the Marine Corps emblem he starts talking about his daddy. He tells everyone that his Marine Corps shirts belonged to his daddy. I know that even though Jimmy was born after your death that you have met your son and he has met you. Vanessa and Natalia feel your presence and love around them and all of us know that you are our guardian angel and that you watch over us all the time.

We have an amazing support system of family and friends that love us and help us through our difficult days. You were and still are truly loved and missed every day. Re-building our lives without you has been so hard, but we know what you would want for us. You were taken away from us much to soon and the pain of your death is still so fresh, but I know you believed in the mission and in the Marine Corps.

We love you very much!"
Rachelle, Vanessa, Natalia and Little Jimmy Arroyave

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!!! Today is your day and Vanessa, Natalia and Jimmy send a million hugs and kisses to you up in Heaven. This is our 4th Father's Day without you and it's still so hard. We wish everyday that you could be with our family watching Nessa, Nat and Jimmy growing up.

We just got back after being gone for awhile. Vanessa, Natalia, Jimmy and I finally made the trip that you and I had planned for our family before your accident. It was so hard, but at the same time we knew you were with us in spirit the entire time. We had an amazing time and we went to all the places you had wanted to go. You would have had so much fun. We met so many wonderful people who thanked you and our family for your service and your sacrifice and they absolutely adored the kids.

Loving you always and forever in our hearts...

"Jimmy -

Three years ago today we were all getting ready for what would be our very last family vacation together. You had just gotten home from taking Vanessa and Natalia to their gymnastics classes and then we headed off. We had so much fun together.

You and Vanessa worked so hard on her Junior Ranger Booklet that weekend and we cherish the pictures of you on the island. We saw so many dolphins on our boat ride out to the island. You and I both laughed at trying to keep up with Natalia that entire weekend. Your nickname for Natalie 'little taz' fits her perfectly...still does.

We had such a great time at the Colombian Restaurant. The food was delicious as you had promised. I still have plans to go back there with the kids someday. Just trying to coordinate so your friends can meet us there. Do you remember what you said that made us laugh so hard we cried. I still laugh at your comment you made while we were driving up to the restaurant.

Baby Jimmy was with us that entire weekend...just still growing inside. You were so excited about having another little Arroyave running around the house. We had so many other family vacations already planned for when you returned home from Iraq. You were really looking forward to our Hawaii trip that we had booked. That's all you could talk about...how much fun it would be and what places you wanted to see first. I just couldn't bring myself to go on our Hawaii trip without you after you died...it just wouldn't be the same and Vanessa and Natalie agreed.

Vanessa and Natalie both said "we love you very much daddy" as they headed off to bed. They sleep every night with the two special teddy bears that were made for them from your uniform. As for Jimmy, he is busy playing with his toys. He is such a character and he is already potty-trained. Can you believe that!

Three years have gone by and it still feels as if it was yesterday that we received the dreaded knock at the door. Our lives have changed so much since loosing you, but you will forever be in our hearts. We love you so much and miss you every day. Thank you for continuing to watch over us.

PS - Please watch over Peter. He just left on another deployment. Please make sure he stays safe - his wife and children are anxiously waiting for his safe return home."
Love, Rachelle, Vanessa, Natalia and Jimmy Arroyave of California 2007

"Jimmy -

Happy Valetine's Day!!!! The kids and I were going through all of the cards, notes and pictures you had sent us over the years for Valentine's Day. Vanessa and I were laughing so hard when we talked about your dislike for chocolate...at least that is what you use to claim, but somehow you would always be the first person to eat all the chocolate in our home. We went and got you your favorite candy bar. The girls still remember buying you your favorite candy bar and sending it to you during your first deployment.

Everytime I see red roses I think of you and laugh because of what you always used to say.

Our memories together as a family keep us moving forward. There isn't a day that goes by that we don't think of you. We love and miss you and enjoy your Valentine's Day in Heaven."
Love, Rachelle, Vanessa, Natalia & Jimmy Arroyave of Valentine's Day 2007

"Dear Jimmy,
I know you are in peace, I just want you yo know that your lovely wife Rachelle thinks the world of you. You must know that she is an incredible woman and I know if you were here you would be so proud of her...I know you are proud of her now. You will both be in my prayers...you left behind an incredible Marine wife and mother to your babies. Siemper Fi!"

"Dear Jimmy,

We're nearing the three year anniversary of your death. It has been a long and difficult time for your wonderful wife and three beautiful children. They miss you terribly, but you would be very proud of them and especially your wife. She is an absolutely amazing woman who cares for her three children with more love than I've ever seen. Even though she is working hard to provide for herself and the children, she is also helping to make life better for other widows and widowers like herself that will surely come in the future. Your two girls are absolutely beautiful and lend a helping hand to their mother every day. Baby Jimmy is just adorable and is being well doted on by his two big sisters. I know you are very proud of them and are watching over them from heaven. They are very proud of you and speak of you often. You are a hero to them and to me and you will never be forgotten. Until we all meet again..... Love from all of us who knew you so well."

"Jimmy i just wanted to say thank you for what you have given me. You will never know how much Caitlyn misses you, loves you and thinks about you every day. she has your portrait up on her desk and your flag that was given to her. She has grown up to be a very beautiful young lady. She will be going in to high school this next year. I wish you could have spent more time with her, I know she does. She misses her sisters very much and has yet to see Jimmy but one day she prays that dream will come true. Please remember she loved you with all her heart!"

"Happy Birthday Jimmy! Yesterday, Vanessa informed me that you were probably getting ready for your big birthday celebration in Heaven. It's so hard to find things to be thankful for because we miss you so much, but we are thankful that you are in a peaceful and safe place. Loving you always..."

"Jimmy -

I often find myself thinking about the what if's. What if America wasn't attacked 5 years ago today. Would you still be with us? You will always be in our hearts and we will always love you. Missing you so much, but we know that you are watching over us."
Love Rachelle, Vanessa, Natalia and baby Jimmy Arroyave of California, Sept. 11, 2006

"Happy Father's Day daddy! Daddy, today is a really hard day. We miss you playing soccer with us, we miss you giving us Spanish lessons, we miss you reading books to us in Spanish, we miss you singing and dancing with us, we miss you taking us out to eat at Colombian restaurants, we miss helping you shine your boots, we miss you sneaking us sweets when mommy isn't looking, we miss your smile, we miss a zillion things about you. It doesn't seem fair that the daddy we love so much is no longer here with us. It's so hard seeing other kids with their daddies. It makes us very sad and missing you even more.

We wish you were here with us, but we know you are okay since you are in Heaven with God. And mommy tells us all the time that each of us will always have a piece of you inside our hearts forever. We love you very much and we miss you in our lives."

"I served with Jimmy when we were Corporals at MWSS 372 Camp Pendleton, CA he was a good friend of mine but at that time he could not convince me to reenlist. The day I saw his picture in the newspaper at first I was full of rage and saddened at the same time, thinking that I should have been there to watch out for him like he did us, and then all I could think of was the times when we would hang out with CPLs Hernandez and Moreno, playing or watching soccer on TV, wrestled to see who was better or who would tap out first, and the times he and the other Marines would make me laugh by annoying each other seeing who could come up with the best insults or jokes. You were an outstanding Marine, mentor and friend we will never forget you nor honor your sacrifice enough...

Rest in Peace and Semper Fi Bro; until me meet again, keep guard at the pearly gates...

Mrs. Arroyave Jimmy and your family are in my thoughts prayers every day, if there is anything I could do for you and your family let me know.

CPL J M Padilla of Oceanside, CA

Your son will be turning one soon. It hurts so much to know that baby Jimmy never had the chance to meet you. It seems so unfair that you finally got the baby boy you had always hoped for and yet you were never able to meet him, hold him, kiss him... Baby Jimmy reminds me so much of you...looks, personality. I often think that God gave us baby Jimmy to help us deal with your death...Baby Jimmy brings joy to our lives even when we feel like there is nothing to be happy about.

The girls and I miss you everyday. We talk about you everyday. Seeing their pain and trying to deal with their pain and heartache has been the hardest. The only thing that will make our lives normal again and take away all of our pain is to have you home with us.

Life seems so bittersweet...we continue each day and yet there is a sense of guilt that our lives have continued. If we could only have you back... even for a second...

We love and miss you so very much.

Rachelle, Vanessa, Natalia and Baby Jimmy"

"Mrs. Arroyave, There was a Memorial for fallen soldiers at a cemetery near my home. A United States Flag was erected for each soldier lost in this battle. We made a donation and received a flag when they took them down. The flag we received was the one for Jimmy. I would like to mail it to you if you would like to have it. I am terribly sorry for your loss and try to remind my children as well as myself what people like Jimmy have done for us and that they are the reason we are free."

"To the Arroyave Family:

My heart opened up when I heard the news of Jimmy's departure from this temporary earth. I remember our flight over here and talking with him about our roots. I'm Colombian as well and we had a bond that we shared as we spoke like brothers the few times I had the pleasure. I remember him teaching me a few things at the airports in transit here and I just flashed back to those moments when I got the news of his accident. We prayed for him and you that day as a group during our bible study here on this base. He was indeed a man ready for eternal rest as he now looks at you and is complete by God's side. Please feel free to let me know if there's anything we at his command have left out in doing. I work for the command Chaplain (Marks) and it'll be my pleasure to assist you and yours in anyway possible. Que Dios me los siga bendiciendo! Con amor!"
