"Thinking of you today"

You never knew me, but I was there to Salute you as your casket was loaded on the C-130 in Balad Iraq, headed back to the States. I made a promise that I would never forget your name and 11 years later I have still kept that promise. Thank you for your sacrifice and service to our nation."

"I was an Air Force Civil Engineer, who shares the same story as Dave Muns (who also commented on this page). I was part of the detail that escorted Travis from the Theater Hospital to the C-130 which took him home. Although I have never met Dave, I share the same sentiment he expressed regarding Travis. Its been over 8 years since that day but I will always remember his sacrifice and the sacrifice of you, his beloved family & friends. I can't fathom the grief you carry with you. My deepest prayers for his family & friends to find peace and comfort through the grace of God. tbutler@suburbanresources.com"

What I wouldn't give to live that day over again, things I would have done different...things we should have done different...I think about it every day. You meant the world to everyone in the platoon, and to this day, you still give me motivation. Take care, and keep watching over us down here."

"I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry. I understand in theory only that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take the families pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. All my love and respect. ogersteiner@yahoo.com

"I am an Air Force medic who was stationed at the USAF Theater Hospital in Balad Iraq in May 05. While I did not know Travis he will always be with me. I was a member of the formation which escorted Travis to the aircraft when he left Iraq. This was the first time I had been on such a detail. Travis' name stuck with me when the Chaplain prayed for for him and all of you (family). I wrote his name down when I returned to my work area. I have kept that piece of paper as a tangible reminder of the heros who have served. May God bless each of you! We can never fully experience your grief but know our prayers are with you."

I was that which others did not want to be.
I went where others feared to go,
And did what others failed to do.
I asked nothing from those who gave nothing,
And reluctantly accepted the thought of
Eternal loneliness…should I fail.
I have seen the face of terror;
Felt the stinging cold of fear;
And enjoyed the sweet taste of a moments love.
I have cried, pained, and hoped…but most of all,
I have lived times others would say were
Best forgotten
At least someday I will be able to say that
I was proud of
What I was…

Nothing will ever take away the emptiness that you left in so many lives. You always said how nobody cared about you, but there are so many who will. For the rest of their lives they will remember you, because in one way or another you touched their lives. I just want you to know how much we all care and we will forever keep your memory alive. If only we could have given to you what you gave to us. Everyone is going to miss you. Until that day we meet in heaven."

"I had the honor of sharing Christmas Day with Travis in Naples, Florida. We went for a walk on the beach and everywhere he looked he saw a dolphin. It was a magical site to him and he said he would return. I am so glad that he was able to be with my family for a short time. He sat with my sons who are 12 and 13 and showed them a book about being a sniper and they hung on every word he said. They spoke about how cool Lupe was for days. He left a lasting impression of patriotism on the next generation of soldiers. We thank him for his bravery and courage. He was the genuine article! We only knew him for two days but his memory will last with us forever."
