"Hey Ivan it took me awhile to find out about this, but I didn't think it was true, I didn't want to believe this at all. I saw SFC Lopez in the PX and he told me, I was like no not Ivan, but now I'm here and I see. Sometimes I wish I could rewind time and go back to when me and you were hanging out in Germany as E3's together and just having fun or the time you had to out do me when you got the Lexus. Later on I saw you in Korea me and you once again as E5's. Man I will miss you, and I will always be your homie and I'm still here in Iraq fighting for you and I will never forget you brother."

"Halo there ya! It has been a while since I have written you anything. My thought was that if I didnt think of it, it would not hurt as much. Here we are almost 4 years later. The girls are so big. I miss you. I know you were not the best Husband, but you were my bestest Friend ever and I miss that. Crystal is getting more and more into cars, and Jade is still sassy. I have a new gem to add to my life - Jewel. It was a struggle to have her, but all is well now. I just wanted to say "Halo" and that as much as I try to be a hardass, you still make me cry."
Stephanie Perez (Alarcon) of Redlands, CA

On June 17, 2006 I participated in the Illinois Freedom Run which is an annual motorcycle ride to Marseilles, Illinois to honor all of our fallen heroes at the Middle East Conflicts Memorial Wall. At the beginning of that ride I was given a memorial military "dog" tag with the name SSG Ivan Vargas Alarcon. I would like to send this memorial remembrance to you Mrs. Alarcon so you may know that Ivan Vargas Alarcon was honored on that day and shall be "Forever Remembered" by those who understand that freedom is preserved because of the sacrifices of those who serve our country.

"May the angels keep you till morning.
May they guide you through the night.
May they comfort all your sorrows.
May they help you win the fight.

May they keep watch on your soul.
May they show you better ways.
May they guard you while you’re sleeping.
May they see you through your days.

May they show you new hopes.
May they still your every doubt.
May they calm your every fear.
May they hear you when you shout.

May the angels keep you till morning.
More that this I cannot pray.
And if the angels ever fail you.
Then may God be there that day.

Gone – but not forgotten.
