"I served with Chris during his time as a Geiger Tiger with 8th Marines TOW. What a clown, what a kidder, what a good guy! We all lost a true no-nonsense military professional 17 years ago."

"You’re on my mind often, I wish there was more I could’ve done to get to you sooner. I’m glad you made it home so your family could say goodbye. A day that forever is on my mind, I replay that rescue over and over again. Much love to your family!"

"15 years, your memory lives on.!! You would not like America now. You’d be frustrated by the fact we are still in Afghanistan. You’d hate Americans thrashing at each other over made up BS and hate when the real enemy still awaits us overseas. You’d be upset about Covid19 and worried about your family and brothers and their families. You’d still be a Sheepdog in a world of sheep. I miss you Brother and your brothers. Rest In Peace."

"Great friend- Good Marine-Outstanding Family. Broken hearted to hear about losing Chris.Spent half my Marine Corps tour with Chris and Steve Tobin outstanding Marines. Special Forces got a great man I am sure Chris was an outstanding operator. My prayers are with his Dad and sisters. I had a lot of great times with Chris and Steve. Often Steve and I would spend our 72-96's in Marblehead with Chris and his friends, and not ever going home to our families in Whitman or Quincy. Semper Fi to Chris and family and Special Forces. This leatherneck will NEVER forget Chris"

"AS I head back to Afghanistan this July I cannot help to remember all the help Chris gave me my first tour there. I will take all those lessons and pass them on to the many young soldiers I supervise over the following year. I cannot believe it has been five years already. I hope to come and wake you and share a beer when I return next summer, as I had planned to to do this year. To all that made the journey to Marblehead so less painful and to Chris's Family- God Bless. Piper will never be forgotten."

"When I saw how my old childhood friend had died I was inspired to write this song about the town we loved . . .
MARBLEHEAD ON MY MIND
From the heart of
THORNE PETERS
There's a seacoast village with a lighthouse, on a rocky shore
And I won't be home again till I am sprayed by that harbor
Where the moonlight over Salem shines through my bedroom window
And I meet my friends of Sunday at The Willows
I've got Marblehead on my mind
Watching sailboats drifting by from West Shore Drive
I've got Marblehead on my mind
My grandfather lays at rest in Waterside
Down a tree-lined street with amber leaves, I ride across the years
As the song “Marblehead Forever” is just ringing in my ears
Over land that the Naumkeag nurtured with their hearts
Stands a township for the ages like a history mark
I've got Marblehead on my mind
Hear the drum & fife from Front Street to Abbott Hall
I've got Marblehead on my mind
Imagine "Old Ironsides" under fire at Fort Sewall
When Marbleheaders took Washington across the Delaware
The hamlet came to be known for the seas that they would fare
As the “Ye Navy” set sail to be master of the waters
From the seaman of the Hanna to the yachters
I've got Marblehead on my mind
Where the summer breeze blows a breath of brine
I've got Marblehead on my mind
Where the starlight and the ocean intertwine
I've got Marblehead on my mind
Watching sailboats drifting by from West Shore Drive
I've got Marblehead on my mind
My old friend lays at rest in Waterside
Rest in Peace, Pipes"

"God Bless men and women like Chris Piper. He died for a cause. He died for a noble cause. My son died from hypothermia. He was mentally ill.
He did not die for our country and freedom. We owe a great debt of gratitude to those who see the importance of stablizing that part of the world. It may be too late. But to do nothing is not of the American character. Once again my thoughts of loss for Chris are deep as they are of all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice."
