"I served with vinnie in Afghanistan in 2001, I was his scout team leader, I heard of his death in 2005 from another Marine that was in our team. I have never told anyone what he meant to me. To this day I think of him every day. He was a very religious man who hardly ever swore. When I think of dedication, hard working, professional, I think of him. I miss you Scott I will always remember you. I still have pictures of us from afghan, you motivate me to train marines hard to this day. To your family I always wanted to tell u I am so sorry for what happened, he was so good in everything he did. I know this country and corps is so much better cause of him. I know he is guarding the gates to heaven and I will see him again. For his family I know you don't know me but anything you need I will be there"

"Scott, Its been over a decade since you left us to be with our father in Heaven. I still think of the innocent days of school and how we use to talk about the military during class.
I miss those days. I am currently going to Middle Tennessee State University for a degree in Computer Sciences. I remember the last day we spoke to each other. You was home on leave and showed me your new rifle. The town was having a big get together for the troops. It truly broke my heart to hear about your passing. I lost so many brothers and sisters in the war and sometimes wonder why I was still here. Your parents moved and I have not been back to Oklahoma since 2009 due to the pain. You are truly missed by a lot of people and I wish we could just sit down and talk about wrestling and the military like we use to back in our youth. Rest my brother and I can't wait to see you again one day."

"o Mrs. Judy Vincent: On this solemn day, Sunday 9/11/2011, I would like to express my deep sorrow on the loss of your son Scott. We appreciate so much his service in Iraq. This morning I saw his picture in the newspaper among Oklahoma's Fallen. It brought back memories of a period in time when I was delivering FedEx letters from Washington, DC to your home at Sixshooter. I tried to do a little research on Scott and came across this Fallen Heroes Memorial site. I began reading the different notes from individuals that knew or served with Scott, then came across the note you had left about that day on April 30, 2004. My eyes filled with tears, and I had to come back later to finish it. At church this morning, we had a very moving service remembering 9/11. We received sad news that one of our familys lost a son/grandson in Afghanistan last Friday. Again I was reminded of your loss. This afternoon, I saw a TV special on Oklahoma's Fallen. There was a story on Scott and an interview with you and your husband. I never met Scott, but know that he was a very special person. My family and I will always be grateful to him for the sacrifice he made on our behalf. May the Lord continue to bring you and your husband comfort and peace."
Mark Prater of Broken Arrow, Ok

"To Mrs. Kim Vincent MsGinnis: On this solemn day of the Tenth anniversary of 9/11, I would like to express my heart-felt sorrow in the loss of your brother Scott in Iraq. I never met Scott, but know your parents in Cookson. They are on my FedEx route at Sixshooter. I remember the yellow ribbons around the trees on their property... and then I began delivering letters from Washington, DC to their home. There was a large article in the Tulsa newspaper about Scott. My heart was always heavy when I had a delivery for your folks. My family (wife, 15 year old son and 12 year old daughter) and I will forever be grateful to your brother for the ultimate sacrifice he made for the freedom that we enjoy. May God truly and richly bless you and your family."
Mark Prater of Broken Arrow, Ok

"I have so many memories of Scott from the 7th grader who always had a fishing story to tell me (sometimes I wished they were a little shorter), to the young man all through junior and senior high school who lived his faith, to the junior who made his web page with a link to the Vietnam Memorial Wall to the section where his Uncle Keith's name is engraved, to the young man in high school who took time to talk to my little boy about "Dragon Ball Z", and to the senior who was so excited to enlist in the Marines. I remember the last day I ever saw Scott; I answered my classroom door and there was Scott standing there looking so handsome in his dress uniform. I remember exchanging emails while he was in the service. I also remember sitting at my son's baseball game and hearing the news about Scott's death and of the hundreds of people who came to honor Scott at the Bokoshe gymnasium at his memorial service. Scott Vincent was special, he was intelligent, he always had a smile, a story, and a kind word. He was and is a hero and role model, and I am blessed to have known him."
Dixie Culwell of McCurtain, OK

"I still remember being at your house and watching "Saving Private Ryan"! As I look back, it's almost as if you knew that God had bigger plans for you.

Every year, I tell my Civics and American History classes your story. Your service and sacrifice will not be forgotten!"
Trace Sutton of New Iberia, LA

"The best I ever served with! Vincent was not only an inspirational Marine, but also an inspirational friend. He had morals and values far beyond his young age that continues to dictate the respect and admiration I have for him today. In West Virginia, he took a leap from a towering cliff into the murky waters below as I and others watched in amazement. Personally, I don't think I would have taken that leap had he not gone first, and I thank him for that. I'm pretty sure alot of us wouldn't have taken particular leaps in life if it wasn't for Vincent. And who could forget that signature smile that made one want to gravitate towards him; I can't recall ever seeing him upset. And his devotion to God, simply amazing; he made me strive to do better. Wish I could have said good bye to such a wonderful brother, but he remains in the heart and will never be displaced from the memory. And to all that ever walked alongside Vincent, no life story would be at all interesting without his legend being told... -live long brother, through the lives of all those you ever touched-"
D. LENOX -2nd LAR, 26th MEU 2003- of Los Angeles, California

"Hey vinnie,
I served with Vinnie in LAR and again when I went to 1/8 and he was detached to the 26th meu with us when we went to Iraq in 03'. I think about mosul airfield and our first firefight there and how you guys were dug in recieving a final defensive fire burst from the airwing to your rear by accident(fricken red pop up), and how you were on patrol you and your team beat some baath loyalist up that attacked you from behind .. I remeber being in the BAS in albania when doc rich brought you in and you dislocated your knee it looked like the most painful thing i have ever seen but you were so tough all you cared about is when can I go back to my plt, crying only about wanting to be back with your boys, and on ship when we made you the special wheel chair with an iraqi liscence plate and streemers for the handles and basebal cards in the spokes it was so much fun just being around you, I remember you hanging out in medical with richie rich all 130 pounds of you, learning about your family and oklahoma. I remeber in greece eating breakfeast with you and lennox and planning what we would do with the rest of our live after this. Vinnie I miss you. I remeber your sense of humor and good nature, a skinny little kid with a SAW and 100 pounds of gear on his back. Demanding to go back to his plt. even when you couldnt even walk because your knee was all messed up. I know your still here with all of us and you are someone that made this world a better place.

"I met Scott when he started working at Wal-Mart and me and his sister kim was working in the shoe department he was really a shy person at first when he would stop by and talk to his sister then i guess he came out of his little shell he was a very good worker but when he would stop by and say hi how was your day he would have that big smile and would always have something to say that would make you laugh he never complained about work if was raining or hot. "I just wanted everyone to know that, although I am not teaching at Bokoshe this year, I haven't forgotton Scott. Scott was in my class all of his high school years, two hours per day in his Junior year, and three classes per day in his Senior year. He was my best speech/drama student, a great English student, and a wonderful aid. There wasn't anything Scott couldn't do well. Today is Veteran's Day, 2006. I will always think of Scott on this day."
Donna Brewer of Muldrow School

"I leave this message not to anyone who will ever read it.
Vinnie- Not a day passes that I do not think of you. Not one. I will forever remember your smile, your laugh, your soul. You are my friend, my comrade, my brother. My trusted SAW gunner, my loyal fire-team leader. It was a pleasure to be able to call you one of my Marines, and forever you shall be.

"I was in Vinnys platoon in Afghanistan and I will never forget him. He was one of the best men I have ever known. I remember going to church with him on ship and how he was the one to lead prayer when all of us were going to war for the first time. I remember when we were in Egypt he ran with me in flack jackets with weapons around the base in 120 degree heat. He had more heart than any Marine ive ever known. I remember when he got that blue tattoo on his shoulder and was so proud of it, I remember meeting his parents at the barracks when we got back from afghanistan. He was the best of us and the world is a lesser place without him. I am honored to have known your son. Semper Fidelis."
Sgt Ryan Trim of Wasilla, Alaska USA

"Vinnie was a great person. Always there to trade me cheese for peanut butter in the 'Stan. That is one memory I will always treasure of Vinnie. Also, no matter what the task he always attacked it head on and never quit, like when he would ambush me in the berthing area even though I am three times his size. He would never quit wrestling till someone pulled him off me. I shall miss my little bud."
Cpl. Larney of Ada, OK

"I went by the Bokoshe grave on Sunday the 28th of May 2006 to visit my grandpa, Walter Restine, and his brother, Pete Restine, whom served in World War II. I was putting flowers in when I noticed, several yards away, a picture in the center of an American Flag. The picture was famliar, a Marine in Dress Blues, the same type I had received when I went to boot camp. I thought back to my own experiences and Iraq flashed through my eyes reliving the guilt and all the experience in one thought and then at that moment I knew, I knew where. I walked over to pay my respects.

When the word "Hero" is spoken I do not think of a famous basketball player, football player, or movie star. I think of all my brothers whom willingly give everything for this country. Corporal Vincent you are a hero more than any ordinary man could ever dream of becoming."
Mike Restine (Sgt.,Team Leader,"D" Co. 4th Recon BN, OIF I) of Albuquerque, NM

"April 30th, started out like any normal day for me. Went to buy yellow flowers to plant, to match the yellow ribbons on every tree. The door bell rings to 2 Marines dressed in their Blues. I can still see Major Sims face, with the news of Scott's death. It must be a mistake!! Can't be real!! Not Scott!! It was real. It has taken me 2 long years to post my feeling on here. Perhaps because it has taken that long to come to terms with the death of my son. Some days it was just easier to think he was just still on deployment. For those that knew Scott: Thank you for your post. I am grateful to know the morning of his death he still had his great sence of humor. His humor and his smile is what I miss the most. Scott might be gone, but he WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. He lives on in our hearts, and in our mind. I have found no reason why. Perhaps some day we will. I am not sure why Scott. He was by far the best son anyone could ask for. His faith, his love for his job, his love for his fellow Marines. It was his strong desire to not let his fellow Marines go back, that he extended his time to go. I ask him why? His reply was Mom, I can't let my friends go with-out me. Takes a very special person to do that. I am posting this a Memorial Day weekend. The cost of freedon, should not ever be forgotten. No freedom does not come free. It is the very people like Scott, that we are FREE. There is a Memorial Highway named after Scott, it runs through his home town of Bokoshe. I hope this Memorial Weekend, as people travel on The Scott Vincent Memorial Highway, they take time to thank Scott? It was an honor to be Scott's Mother. I was blessed for 21 years. I know we will be together again one day soon. When that happens. Scott will greet me, with that smile. There will be no-more tears. Untill that day, memories will have to do. I love you Vinnie.....
Mom"
Judy Vincent (Vinny's Mom) of Cookson, Oklahoma

"April 30th is a day that I will never forget. I still remember the clothes I had on and what I was doing when I heard the news. I remember the night before me and my husband James were talking about if we ever had a boy what we would name him. I said Scott because I am so proud of what my brother has accomplished in life. Little did I know the next day my life would be changed forever. I will never forget any of the memories we shared. We had alot of good times. One year and 5 days after April 30, 2004 my husband and I welcomed into this world little Scott Micheal McGinnis. I promise he is just as rotten as his uncle. People say things happen for a reason. I still don't know what the reason is, maybe one day I will know. I do know America lost a great soldier. I can't think of a time in our childhood that Scott was not watching a military movie or acting like a soldier. I will always cherish every moment we had. I love you and miss you.
Your sister,
Kim"

"Your sacrifice as well as the hard duty you were called to will never be forgotten by me, the Mom of a Marine. To be part of a Recon team speaks for itself and I've heard that good Marines live to tell the stories of the great Marines they tell stories about. I don't know if that's true, but I've met many Marines, and just by being part of that elite and proud group, there can be no doubt that you served with great pride. My prayers and thoughts go this moment to those you left behind. Thank you to all."

"Family and Friends of Vincent-

I did not know him, but my fiance, Derrick Madsen, served proudly with him in 2D LAR BN Aco. 1st PLT in Afghanistan.

Before Madsen left for Iraq on Sept 2nd to relieve D company, he told me what Red 1 had named their LAV. The Fully Monty was the name, and the gun was named Vinny. Madsen said he was going to get revenge.

My fiance loved his brother and always will. My thoughts and prayers are with your family."

This world has become a better place because of your son. If there is anything my family can do for you, let me know."
