"My condolences to the family of SGT Melissa Valles. I am deeply saddened by the lost. May GOD continue to strengthen you and be with you. Psalm 136.."Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His faithful love endures forever". It has been over 8 years since she passed. She is at peace now. I would like to say thank you to her for her service and all she did for this nation. She was an outstanding soldier for the 13 weeks she trained and I spent as her Drill Sergeant at Golf Co. (G-Force) 244th Quartermaster Battalion, Ft. Lee, Va. Our motto was "MAKE IT HAPPEN". She was my Platoon Guide for the "Dogg Pound" platoon. From leading the way during physical training (PT) runs to wall locker and in ranks inspections before class in the morning. PFC Valles at that time did that and more. A highly motivated and dedicated Platoon Guide which inspired excellence amongst her fellow platoon members. PFC Valles was a fine example for all soldiers to emulate. Rest in peace Melissa Valles. Drill Sergeant Jones (Dogg Pound, G-Force...1995-1997)"
Brett Jones of Tampa, Florida

"I had the honor of serving with Sgt. Valles in the 544th Maintenance Battalion, Ft. Hood, TX. We were in different companies, so the first time we met was when we volunteered for the Jr. Officer vs Jr. NCO Competition. She was the epitome of what a true soldier is and the most outstanding role model, especially to young female soldiers. I loved training with her. The competition tested allof our soldier skills, and tested character as well. She could break down, reassemble, and function check any weapon faster than anyone – in the gas chamber with no mask. After the long, hard 3 days we had a 10k road race, fully loaded with ruck sac and weapon, and one of our team mates blew his knee out. He was picked up by medical and we kept pushing through the race. At the finish line, Melissa grabbed us all and started praying for our injured team mate. That’s the way she was, strong and compassionate. She loved serving the Lord and her Country."
Sgt. Abbie Konecny of Brighton, CO

"I was stationed with Sgt Valles at bravo company 64th FSB. I remember last seeing her the week before the deployment because I was getting some paperwork straightened out for one of her soldiers. I did not go on the deployment because I was pregnant at the time but I will never forget the day I heard our company had lost a soldier and that it was Sgt Valles. My heart goes out to her family and my prayers are with you."
Tamara Clark Meacham of Ft Bragg NC

"To Melissa's family and friends,
I did not know your soldier but wanted to send my thoughts of extreeme thanks and gratitude for doing what they did. My name it Kelly (Tyrrell) Zitelman and my younger brother PFC Scott Tyrrell also died "from injuries sustained in Iraq during a non-combat related incident" in 2003. He was near an amunitions hold when it exploded on Nov. 14th and died from his injuries on Nov. 20th at Brooks Army Medical Center, Ft. Sam Houston, TX.
It has been just over 6 years for us...and I just wanted you to know that yours, as well as mine have not been forgotten. I want to thank you for the sacrifice that, not only your soldier, but all of you also gave! I hope that you are able to keep Melissa's memory alive but have also learned to live with the pain of him being gone. Please know that I will be thinking of all of you and that if any of you ever need to talk with someone "that truely understands"...you can reach me at zitelmanzoo@yahoo.com

*** My heart goes out to your mother ** & family, & friends...
I want to take the time to thank you for all you did, shared , & tought me in AIT .
You never let me quit..... & i was always very proud to be a part , a little part of your world,& i thank you.For being my friend , for showing me so many little things that made my life just a lil easier back then... i still remember your rosary ..& the long hair ...& all the jokes we said ...& the times we made fun of lil stupid things...
You always stood your ground no matter what !!!
You showed me what it was to be a Woman in the Army & a strong one at that !
With Integrity & Honor ...
You showed me how to take it a day at a time.We both learned from eachother but i , learned very valuable things that helped me later on in life, see i always had something negative to say ....& you were just the positive person who if you have nothing nice to say don't say it at all...
The motivation & the drive that Melissa had,... was CONTAGIOUS !!!
She motivted everyone who she was freinds with no matter what problems anyone had it was another day ...take it a day at a time. Her words were .. " TOOOO EASY "

"To my cousin Army Sgt. Melissa Valles its about to be your 4th anniversary since you've been gone. It's hard to deal with the fact your not here with us. It seems like yesterday when you called and told us you were coming home, but instead you taken away from us. Mel I would like to ask you to forgive me one day because I didn't attend your funeral. It's not because I didn't want too. I just couldn't attend. I couldn't believe you were gone and even now I still can't face the fact that your gone. I want you to forgive me when we see each other again. It was really hard for me because you were my role model. I wanted to be just like you, I remember telling you I wanted to join the Army and you told me to go ahead and do it because it was one way of helping our country and making a differnce. Mel I miss you so much its hard to let you go, but I will always remeber you forever and keep you in my heart and prayers. Thanks for everything you did. I Miss You and Love You, and one day we will see each other again."

"Melissa is the name of my oldest sister and in a way you too are my hermana. Your raizes are in Eagle Pass like mine are. I never met you, but now everytime I go back home to Eagle Pass, I will remember you through the monte, the Rio Bravo, the beautiful sunsets, the dry heat, and the soil we walk on because you fought for our soil....even though I do not believe in wars, I understand that a soldier is a soldier and when called to duty, they put their life on the line. I pray that you did not suffer and that you did not let anyone suffer while in Iraq. I hope that your spirit lives on in Iraq and hopefully spreads the message that we need to bring our troops back home. We don't need any more deaths in either country. May creator let your spirit grow forever,

"Melissa, I was in shock when I saw your picture in a magazine as one of the many lost heros. I knew you from back in elementary, junior high, & high school. We were friends throughout the years but lost touch once you left Eagle Pass. You were one person that was always a pleasure to be around & it saddens me that your presence will no longer be with those who love you dearly. There's not enough words to express my gratitude for everything that you did for our "COUNTRY"! May you rest in peace, & remember...Your memory will always be present in everyones hearts, minds, & souls. You are missed tremendously.

"In Loving Memory..Its been a year..

At the rising of the sun and at its going down, We remember them.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of Winter, We remember them.
At the opening of buds and in the rebirth of Spring, We remember them.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of Summer, We remember them.
At the rustling of leaves and the beauty of Autumn, We remember them.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends, We remember them.
As long as we live, they too will live;
for they are now a part of us, as we remember them.
Rest in Peace Dear Soldier!!! We will NEVER FORGET!"

"SGT Valles, you left us with so many good memories to share, and I miss you everyday that goes by. I still remember the flowers you picked in Kirkuk, Iraq. I also remember the flowers you drew on the windows of an abandon building of Sadam's Guards, bringing life to that old and destroyed building. When you played Volleyball you were happy, just as when you had the chance to talk to your mother. Your lost was one of the hardest events in my life, and I will always think of you as the greatest soldier I ever had. You will always be in my heart and prayers."
