Thorne died of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during combat operations. Thorne was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Died on August 24, 2006.
