I had you when you was a young private and cultivated you into a true soldier. Words will never replace you as a man, father, husband or soldier, but I want those who knew you,to know what kind of person you were. I think about you often and hope that you have found eternal peace. May the lord bless your wife, children and family. Forever your brother in arms....

"Darrell,

This November (2006) will mark the 3rd year you were taken from us. When times like the (5th)anniversary of 9-11 come around, I think more and more of why you had to die.
You make me proud! I can say I've never met anyone that will live up to what you have done.
I know your children miss you dearly. I miss you for them. You were their rock. I only hope that they will carry on into their adult life some of what you instilled in them in their childhood. It's not been easy. But, hey, they have a great guardian angel!
I think of you often, and my thoughts are always of saddness of your death. We all will go on, but your absence will be felt and a small wound will be felt in our hearts forever.
We love you......"
Karen (Sister-in-law) of Indiana

"Thank You
by Lily Michaels, 2003

I can't shake every hand.
I can't put flowers on every grave.
I can't console every family member.
But I can say thank you.

You have given me the freedom I enjoy today.
Your blood was shed in place of mine.
Your family grieved so mine could rejoice.
All I can say is thank you.

There are not words big enough.
There is not a hug strong enough.
There is not a smile wide enough.
All I can offer is thank you.

You are my hero.
You are in my thoughts.
You are in my prayers.
For all you've done, thank you.

Thank you for your hero and the sacrifice you all made for this country. He will not be forgotton."

"Darrell was a wounderfull person. I have known him for 11 great years. I worked right next to him in the factory. We had the best times together. The thing about him is that no matter how bad your day was he could make it better.Darrell is a great role model for everyone. He would give up what he had just to help you. I didn't have a place to go when I left my moms and him and Amy took me in. They are both very special in me and my wifes lifes. Darrell, Amy and Hanna their daughter were in our wedding. Amy stayed with my wife and I stayed with Darrell the night befor. The next morning it snowed so bad, Darrell almost called for a humvee,he said "brother your getten married snow or no snow.He got me there. Thanks PUP!!"

"In my life, I have had known some truly wonderful people. Darrell was definitely one of them. He and I use to work together in Jasper. He was one of the few who supported me when I decided to move to North Carolina for a guy. With a smile as bright as day, like only Darrell can give, he told me to go for it. I guess he knew it was love before I did. He was right. I have been with my airman ever since. Darrell was a wonderful man, and I was honored to know him.
Now Amy, I know that I didn't know the two of you as a couple. However, I do remember you as well. It's a small town, what can I say? Anyway, I can see the two of you as a perfect match. You are both such nice people. I want you to know that I am thinking of you and the kids. You are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless!"
